Weekend Wash-Up

The Weekend Wash-Up – Round 6

Another crazy week. What’s Matt got to say?

What the hell was that… There’s not enough rockets on hand to deal with the insipid displays we’ve witnessed over the past 4 days, let’s not waste any more time. It’s time for the weekend wash-up!

LEGENDS

Treloar (137) – Trust me when I say, Treloar’s great scoring isn’t worth the headache of owning him. Awesome draft pick though….

Macrae (129) – Oh. My. God. Libba was out, yes. However I didn’t realise just how dirt cheap Macrae was ($715k). Given the state of the forward line this year I’m starting to think he’s going to be a must trade in over the next couple weeks. He’s not 110 Macrae, but even bloody 90 will do. Top of the watch list.

Johannisen (126) – Draft slider of the season? When your defenders come up against St Kilda, they’re on captaincy watch. The darkest of green.

Dale (160) – GET A LOAD OF THIS. Does he have 39 disposals and 160 points if he’s not in the sub vest last week? Probably not. Does that make benching an absolute jet a smart move? What do you reckon. Good to see some common f**king sense prevailed. Ridiculous. Just quietly, he’s cheap…

Dawson (155) – Big Orse, boy oh boy woweAFL 2024 Round 06 - Adelaide v Essendon - A-47349730e. I thought first quarter he was same old sh*t Dawson, but once he kicked that first goal the switch was flicked. I saw 2023 unstoppable stat stuffing extraordinaire Jordan Dawson back where he belongs. Did I mention that he plays North next week? Scary hours. Just note that it was without Crouch, and that was a theme at the end of last year. I’m all aboard once again.

Caldwell (117) – This has happened before, we have the evidence when Caldwell gets an inside mid role he is legit. Just note that Perkins and Setterfield were both out again, god knows how the Bombers work their midfield mix. It’s just a mess, and Jye is on the expensive side now. Risky, but high reward.

Soligo (98) – Not quite a legend just yet, but he looks awesome in the guts. Hopefully Crouch doesn’t spoil the party, he looks 20 points underpriced. One for those swinging for the fences, just be wary it may be a strike out.

Butters (117) – How about that first quarter?! 15 disposals, a goal and 61 fantasy points. I’m actually gutted with his effort after that having the C on him, but after watching those last 3 quarters I’ll take it. God only knows what goes on with Port, but Butters keeps getting it done. Just quietly, he’s now averaging more than Rozee…

Cripps (126) – Patrick Cripps will do this two or three times a year. He’s a gun, but there’s one problem. 13 kicks and 2 marks just won’t get it done consistently in fantasy.

Walsh (101) – I wonder how his owners feel about this? 35 disposals is awesome, 0 marks is not. Regardless of the tough matchup, 29 CBAs is the big tick for me. Pure mid is epic stuff. If his body holds together he will be a legit 110-115 guy.

Kennedy (100) – Rotating through the middle and even half back, Matt Kennedy is just over 600k and now a forward. That could be relevant…

Zorko (127) – I have left one on middle stump here. Dayne Zorko is a gun, that isn’t breaking news. However best 18 is over, and if you’ve missed out on these scores… I think you hope for the worst. Not that I would ever want a player to get injured……. The copium is real.

AFL 2024 Round 06 - Brisbane v Geelong - A-47377322

Berry (117) – Weird stuff this, but I’m not buying it. It’s Jarrod Berry. That does make it back to back 120’s though so it would be rude not to shout him out.

Reid (80) – Holy sh*t. Every gun rookie that comes through gets the same treatment “Is this the best first 25 games in AFL history?!” And every time I just think, did people forget Chris Judd existed? Well god damnit, if this is what Harley is delivering in his 6th game of footy we might just be witnessing the birth of the goat. The fantasy scoring may be inconsistent, but I’m telling you right now a monster score is on the way. He is insane, that was a pleasure to witness. I am pleased to announce that we are so back.

Grundy (142) – Let’s just get this out of the way. I think I’m cooked. Where was this intent during rounds 1-4?! Does he only try in milestone games? Yes I traded Brodie Grundy, and yes I hate his guts. 11 tackles….. What an absolute pisser. He was dominant and that’s all I have to add here. The opposite of a legend in my books.

Flanders (126) – Sam Flanders indulged in some genuine piss take footy, which wasn’t a great look when he handed Sydney 2 goals with the game on the line. We obviously don’t care as long as he keeps the role, he’s a fantasy gun.

Heeney (113) – Heendog just did his thing. Of course. The most impressive stat to me was he had the most CBAs for Sydney! Huge tick, even with Adams in the side. Saying they should keep him forward because they need him there is like saying Harley Reid shouldn’t play midfield because he’s too good up forward. Stupid comment.

Xerri (126) – It would seem every ruck option but mine had a monster. Strong intent, hard tackling, second efforts. Wish I saw some of that from the guy I paid a million bucks for. I think the answer is pretty clear now, Xerri is 90% owned in the top 100. There was only 1 correct ruck answer, and it was written in black and white. Legend!

AFL 2024 Round 06 - North Melbourne v Hawthorn - A-47413751

LOSERS

NWM (63) – This bloke. The two 120’s are no good if we’re delivering up this tripe every second week. 3 games in 11 days my ass, I don’t want to hear it. Too many mouths to feed in this backline, what a disaster. I’m honestly not sure where you go from here, just close your eyes and hope the rollercoaster gets back on track.

Sinclair (64) – Jack Sinclair is looking like banana number 3 down back for the Saints. What do we do with these blokes? Has Sinclair got more to offer in the middle than Seb Ross, or is he just sh*t? There’s more questions than answers in this team. No bloody good. He’s cheap, but not cheap enough.

Sanders (22) – Thank you so much Bevo. D*ckhead. We’ll see you next year, Riley.

Parish (86) – This is embarrassing. Darcy has been my boy, but looking at my rank this year that shouldn’t count for much. He has got the contract, but frankly he needs to get the f**k of instagram and pull his finger out. He shouldn’t be getting midfield clock over Essendon’s other young guns at the moment, but I can see him turning this around… And he’s getting very cheap.

AFL 2024 Round 06 - Adelaide v Essendon - A-47342505

Rankine (62) – Rankine aspires to be “the greatest” apparently…. 2 touches in the first half in the midfield to follow up that quote is the Izak Rankine experience isn’t it. Back to the forward line champion.

Laird (83) – Washed. Finished. El Finita. Some DPP action could eventually bring him back into our teams, but his days as a number 1 mid are long gone. Sorry Rory. He sounds like a ripping bloke though, if that counts for anything… (It doesn’t)

Rozee (70) – The theme of this week? Rely on nobody this year. This is Rozee’s first score under 90 for over a year. That effort was insipid. We barely saw a premium pull a finger out this week, but from your skipper that was embarrassing. Dreadful stuff.

Wines (61) – Forget the role, Ollie Wines just sucks. End of story. Worst Brownlow winner of all time title quickly coming your way brother. Life comes at you fast.

Williams (28) – Thank god this sh*t happened during best 18, it has genuinely saved me this season. Why did I ever think Zac Williams was a safe pick? He has made some cash and now goes, so it’s not the end of the world. What does an achilles knock even mean? It makes your trade decisions easy this week.

AFL 2024 Round 06 - Carlton v GWS - A-47369497

Clark (25) – Shoutout to you Chris Scott. Prick. I need Jhye dropped at this point so I can at least loop him. Welcome to M10 bud.

Stewart (47) – Sometimes this game just sucks. This is one of those times… It was the week from hell and this was the icing on a pretty sh*tty cake. Get stuffed.

Jackson (61) – I’ve got little sympathy for this pick. Firstly you picked a docker, secondly you knew this was ending in disaster!! To be fair, I at least thought he could beat up on the Eagles. A must trade in the middle of upgrade season, pack your sh*t blanket.

Lukosius (80) – Huge red flag, Jack Lukosius moved forward in the final term… Utterly frightening stuff. Hopefully Dimma just spat the dummy and flipped the magnets.

Fisher (60) – This is what I get for picking Zac Fisher at the end of the day. What else did I expect? I don’t even know how he’s getting a game frankly. Embarrassing stuff. North might have taken back their mantle and chief spooners though, so congratulations to them for that. Keep picking Fisher and you’ll have it all sewn up.

D’Ambrisio (33) – Last and also least, Massimo. This is looking like it should be up there with my Michael Walters trade. Given the North tax, this 33 equates to roughly a 23. Subbed against North Melbourne as you belt them, that’s as low as it gets.

AFL 2024 Round 05 - Gold Coast v Hawthorn - A-47197687

THIS GAME SH*TS ME

Sliding doors moments. A crossroads in your team’s destiny. There are 50/50 decisions in everybody’s fantasy season that pretty much straight up decide your fate. That happened last week when I decided to take a gamble on going Grundy to Marshall over the vanilla Jordon to Flanders. Guess what? It was vanilla for a reason. Now I’m not one for captain hindsights (I am), and clearly if my aunty had balls… You get the point, but this is the margin of error.

Going Marshall over Flanders last week, VC options and best 18 included, gained me… 2 points. This week? I wouldn’t have had to trade Jordon to Flanders, and given I couldn’t get Dempsey or Roberts to anyone of real value (No, I wouldn’t have gone Macrae) it almost certainly would have been Fisher to Zorko. I would have avoided VC’ing Marshall and gained 80 points with Grundy. I would have then VC’d Dawson, getting his 155 over Butters. And then collected Zorko’s 127 over Fisher’s 60. Adding up to? 181 points and a score of 1999 (Weekly rank 32). Is this woulda coulda shoulda healthy? No. Does everybody have these moments? Yes!!! That’s my point. One 50/50 call leads to a butterfly effect that quite frankly, has totally f**ked my team. I don’t think there’s any way back from here, it will just be a slow crawl to the top 2-3k. F**k this. This game sh*ts me……..

AFL 2024 Round 06 - St Kilda v Western Bulldogs - A-47328173

THE OTHER BITS AND PIECES

1818. Rank 10k. It’s just another story of what could have been for me, the pieces are almost there but the coaching decision making is not. Embarrassing stuff from me. I have very little to add here, nobody needs to know what moves I’m making next week as it matters not. I’ll likely upgrade Fisher to Garcia which will let me chase Gulden for Zac Williams with some DPP, hopefully nailing Errol’s start of his 150 run. At least that’s what I’ll repeat in my head as I cry myself to sleep.

Fisher -> Garcia

Williams -> Gulden

Be sure to give our pod a listen this week! If you think you had a sh*t week, try and beat Dave’s 1688 as a top 1000 coach……… Yep. It’s a ripper. Of course good luck next week legends, as always may the luckiest man or woman win!

Stewart, Williams, Jackson, Fisher – how did these names even get in my team?? Not to mention Powell and McGovern! I actually hate watching them. Am I on drugs and don’t even know it? So tempting to bring in Caldwell but you know the bombers wil change their mid mix even though winning.

Solid trades. Although Sanders is a must fix imo and Garcia gets you some cash gen. Depends who you think is most important out of Serong and Macrae after that I guess

Yeh it makes it tough, I feel if I don’t get Garcia I’ll have f all cash gen so might just do an upgrade and a downgrade this week. But have Williams, Jackson and sanders that all need to go asap

Feel your pain!! Also got 1800 for top 10k rank :(
Now have Jackson, Zilliams, Clark (GEE) to go, so decisions will depend on injury reports.
Tempted to go Jackson to Maccas and start making offerings to the gods of Bevo decisions!!

I also am considering purchasing a ticket on Satan’s Rollercoaster.

And this is 3 weeks after trading Macca out 1 week after bringing him in, then vowing never again until Bevo is sacked.

Apparantly returning to toxic relationships is known as co dependency 😅

Hey Matt,
I’ve got to get rid of Jackson this week, so I was thinking of going
Williams > Treloar/Walsj
Jackson > Flanders
Just wanted to know what you meant by Treloarr being a headache??? You’ve got me worried now!
Cheers legend!

Had him in my first iteration team this season. Didn’t go with him, but he has value after playing a fair bit of forward time last season and Adams leaving who he was splitting mid/forward time with. And of course has excellent pedigree. He’s not the piglet of old, but he can still play.

Going to trade tom Stewart and potentially green or Jackson I can do also have Sanders and maynard that could be on the chopping block

Stewart > Zorko
Jackson > T, Adams (I have xerri and gawn)

Or

Stewart > Zorko (Nic Martin def DPP)
Green > Walsh

Any other suggestions or are these trades valid?

Cheers

Caldwell, DeGoey or Macrae – need help with ranking the trio of Js..

all have pros + cons in my eyes, so struggling to separate them atm..

– DeGoey, back to back 100s, entrenched in the guts & when he’s switched on, does it all, but he is prone to phoning it in some weeks..
– Macrae, we all know his best is close to PIG status, price almost the lowest its ever been, plus he has the DPP, but is 1 solid game enough??
– Caldwell, solid 3 weeks, looks to be the player Parish once was, has the DPP, but Dons do have some outs, so is this gonna last??

What’s the better trades to do

Williams – any mid, already have Merrett, green, Rozee,
I’m thinking Walsh or Dawson

Then Jackson to Macrae 65k left / Bhill 1k left /caldwell 23k left /baker 55k left

Or Jackson down to Garcia and bank 500k for next week

Or keep Jackson and go sanders to Garcia, leaves me with 239k left over
