The toughest thing to do in this game is admit when your team just plain sucks. The copium has worn off for me and it was a dark, dark weekend… Let’s just get into it shall we. It’s time for the weekend wash-up!
LEGENDS
Dawson (112) – You made it to your price, well done champ. Honestly though I still can’t totally hold this against Dawson. His first half was good but it felt like it should have been better, I just thought he wasn’t getting involved enough in transition. Boy did I not realise how good we had it, because in the second half Matthew Nicks sent him to genuine full forward for half the game. I’m not talking about resting forward either. I got away with it, and he’s a legend for getting to this score… But I’m shitting myself for next week. Go Crom!
Gawn (109) – Still an epic score but it was a slow finish for his vice captainers. The fact we’re slightly flat about a 110 says enough.
Crouch (106) – He just bloody gets it done. And I don’t have enough of those guys. Legend!
McCluggage (126) – This was flagged last week, and Hugh McCluggage now carries a last 3 average of 111. Guess what, his only bad score didn’t even count. What’s his price you say? It only just ticked over $800k this week. Bargain.
Daniher (135) – Did what you’d expect against an ammos level defence. Draft winner.
Sheezel (121) – I seriously don’t know how he does it in this team. I look away and he’s gone up 30 points. That’s b2b2b2b 120’s, incredible stuff.
Zorko (111) – If you already have Flanders, Dayne Zorko is your next port of call. It’s funny how times change, we used to want our forwards in the midfield but now we want them at half back!
Comben (107) – Wow. If I wasn’t a moron and had Clohesy I would probably get him this week. Having said that, for all I know a 30 is coming up next week. And trust me, I don’t know much…
Xerri (102) – That postage stamp ground was made for him, and this score is almost disappointing after his start. I thought he might have 25 tackles. Gun.
Merrett (135) – I heard the footsteps (Finn) and ruined my team. We’ve been spoilt being able to upgrade to Zach underpriced in previous seasons, I’m not sure that’s going to happen in 2024.
Rozee (133) – I just don’t have any gun players I suppose. That first half was totally ridiculous, I definitely picked the wrong Port midfielder. Epic.
N.Martin (114) – Racks up disposals, spends the entire game on the ground and no one will ever tag him. He’s… Perfect.
Horne-Francis (111) – This guy is obviously a gun, and that was some performance. But 62% TOG?!?! I think that DPP chance is gone, and so is Butters as a top 3 banana.
Butters (106) – It’s OK…. But it’s not Jack Steele. 15 CBA’s, fourth banana, this stinks a little. So it’s not really a legend is it… More of a sook by me. Solid score.
Reid (78) – BOOM! In the space of a week I have gone from I’m not seeing it to he will be the best player in the comp in 5 years time. Sometimes a little rocket is all that’s needed. The fitness will come…
Gulden (127) – Ripe for the picking in Round 6, Errol will be entering my team ASAP. Regardless of his slow start. The bloke is a fantasy jet and his next 150+ is just around the corner…
Duggan (125) – DUGGA! He’s heating up now is the butcher. In all honesty he had a great game for the most part, but some of his mistakes by foot…. Man oh man. But we don’t care!
Brayshaw (148) – Written off by many, but I flagged his CBAs on the Pod last week and Andy went bang! Again he had huge CBAs, second most this week and more than Serong. What’s more important is the score… We all know he is a 115 guy with the role, and it looks like he still has the role…
Young (108) – Bloody legend. All I need to say.
Sharp (106) – JEZ!!!! I disrespected him sitting him last on my pine, at least I’ll have loopholes to cover my shit coaching next week. Huge score for his cash gen.
Clark (97) – It doesn’t matter how hot or cold he starts, or even if he gets to 104 midway through the last! Jordan Clark will end on 97. Slightly annoying, but we take it. I just don’t buy that he muttered “You’re a f**kin idiot Jordan” next to the umpire just after Carlton slotted the winner……… His nose grew a little longer.
Bont (149) – Yeeeeuuuup. The Bont is back. And he is relativelycheap. If you remember he had a very similar start last year, and we all know how that turned out. Get ready for a 120 average.
Libba (132) – 19 CLEARANCES?! He is so damn good, and reasonable at Fantasy as well.
Treloar (125) – Old cheese string hammy’s obviously can’t be trusted, but he has these scores in him.
Flanders (102) – Who doesn’t have a half back flank role these days?! Flanders was looking so hot during Q1, thank god he slowed. Gotta get him in.
Clohesy (95) – 92% TOG! Wing role. Must have. Nothing more to add really, bloody legend!
Marshall (136) – You know what this game boils down to? Having the right players in the right games, because this was a pisstake. Dominant from big Ro Dog. All I’m going to say here is CHECK THE FIXTURES. He had gone red, orange, red on DFS’ fantasy scale for rucks, and guess what. He still averaged 107! 136 in his first green game, and I’m sure you’ve figured out by now his next 3 are… Yep, all bright green. All aboard, pack your sh*t Brodie.
Steele (131) – I feel genuinely sick to my core. This guy is the perfect fantasy player, has averaged 120 when last fit and is in the prime of his career. And I didn’t pick him for $880k?! Season ruining decision.
NWM (127) – The rollercoaster continues. You have to admit, regardless of the low weeks, these ceiling scores are fun.
Bonner (94) – I called it last week. You have a bit of leather poisoning and you’re bound to miss a couple targets! I thought he was awesome in this game and should no longer be a question mark in your side. Lock and load.
I have a rule with my legends, and that is on the back of a disgraceful score, let alone two, you don’t get a mention until you make up for it. And that will be that.
LOSERS
Salem (67) – Look…… I just hope you got off. He sucks.
Rivers (60) – Trent sold me up the river in draft. Zing.
Billings (49) – This is the last time you’ll hear Jack Billings name mentioned. Ever. Sorry to waste your time.
Howes (30) – This is just plain embarrassing at this point. Thank god we got those few flukey scores. Howesy did his job, made us a couple hundred grand and now can politely get f**ked.
McGrath (61) – It’s these weeks I just gloss over when saying Andy is back. Typically shocking call by me. Pretender.
Jordon (60) – What a little sh*t. I flipped my trades last week at the fear of what Jordon might do against the Eagle’s, but again I missed a key factor in this decision making process. He also needs to be good at footy. His score was saved in the last as he moved into midfield, a nice parting gift from Horse as he sends him straight to the f**king twos next week.
Mitchell (0) – I think it’s safe to say, don’t go near the rookies with old horse.
Serong (82) – Serong had square head himself Hewett for company all day on Saturday, and this is a flag for weeks to come. He was an awesome starting pick but this goes to show, you only get the scores that follow. Don’t go chasing points…
Williams (69) – A big score would have been huge from Zac. It’s just a shame he is as fit as I am. He actually had a huge last quarter by his standards, notching up 7 points this time. He must have had a big off-season, because this is pathetic.
Holmes (89) – Maholmesboy… Is starting to annoy me just a little I’ll admit it. Full time winger?! F**k you Chris Scott, and f**k you Jack Bowes. Why is he in the middle?! Of course Max is a gun and will get to 90, but this isn’t the role I wanted to see. Watching wingers sucks.
Clark (35) – Speaking of sucking….. Flash in the pan last week, back to reality this week. And I didn’t think I had a mid worthy of trading last week. Idiot.
Green (88) – HUGE FIST PUMP. I’m pathetic for this behaviour. Almost as pathetic as Tom Green’s effort on the weekend. Dealing with that expectation of going 100+ every week is just different gravy and certainly not for everybody. I just miss Swanny….
Touk (80) – Grim. I was all aboard the Touk train this season, so that should have been a big enough red flag itself. Big one needed next week…..
H.Thomas (15) – I was gambling that he had just a little bit of footballing ability. And like what often happens when I gamble, I lost. Badly. He has a BE of 13 next week, will he get there? If he even gets picked, that’s about where I’m placing the line. Shameful.
D’Ambrosio (55) – Terrible player, terrible pick, terrible role. It’s all gone to sh*t. Was he a winger all season? If so, why was I not informed. That’s what happens when you pick a player who you couldn’t pick out on the street and haven’t seen play. On a side note, did anybody see what Karl Amon did after Mass saved that goal… Sprinted 100 metres to take the kick out from him. What a pathetic dog.
Macdonald (28) – I got traded a lemon in our keeper league. I thought this guy was a walk up 70? 28 is hard to do so kudos to him for that. Big Will Minson vibes with this one, there will be draft owners around the country wanting his head.
THIS GAME SH*TS ME
This one is simple. Thursday night lockouts. What a total pisser. We have an hour to see and assess teams, if you aren’t on the ball you get f**ked. Multiply that by 1000 when this is all going on in Perth at 3:30pm on a Thursday afternoon. Hore to Clohesy was clearly my best option this week, and that became very evident to me…. On Friday morning. By that point, my entire defensive rookie bench had locked out. Instead I had to trade in a walking 15. Awesome stuff. This game really does sh*t me.
THE OTHER BITS AND PIECES
2096. I suck. Ranked just inside 20k. It’s over. The hardest round of the season is the one where deep down you realise your team just sucks. There is no hope I compete for a hat. Suyre, I could crawl into the top 2-3k. But what’s the point in that. Instead you’ll just get to hear me be grump and complain for the next 20 weeks. Enjoy that. M y trades are pretty irrelevant, but here they are for anyone that cares
Mass -> Clohesy
Grundy -> Marshall
I had more problems than I can count on one hand, so my fate is sealed and I may as well go down swinging.
Just to wrap up, I need to say a quick thanks to everyone who has listened to the podcast so far. You’re all legends! We’ve made some much needed audio upgrades this week, so be sure to share it with your mates and follow us @weekendwashup on twitter to keep up with everything that’s going on!
We’ll start an official mailbag next week, which in reality will be us going through your best vent work. I know I’m not the only one out there with a shit team, and this podcast is for us. Best of luck next week legends, as always may the luckiest man win.
Hahaha ah man amon is a dog for that, massimo ran near full length of the ground and didnt recieve a handball. After round 1 i was 65k overall, just snuck inside the top 15k with 2203 this week.
Who would you target, bonner or jhf?
Initial trades are lazzaro & massimo to clohesy & bonner.
Amon is on my list. Huge comeback! I guess it’s still not too late for Bonner, but I don’t mind the JHF differential. It’s risky though
think Thomas sucked a few of us in Matt.. didn’t expect another triple figure score, but thought he’d be good for a 40 at least, big L for a lot of us..
my plans this week are to prepare for NEXT week when i’m looking to get in Gulden AND Daicos..
Mass to Clohesy & Howes to Will Graham bank me a pretty penny and providing Z-Will + Sharp/McKercher can hit their BE, it’s a double upgrade..
The double whopper…… Love it pending no injuries
Great write up as usual, is dpp released following the completion of round 5 or round 6. Will be a massive decision regarding holding D’ambrosio if i can move martin down back next week cheers!
After round 6
Thanks for the write up! Thought I was doing well: 2150, started round 1 in 59,000 but now up to 14,000. So I felt good about everything! Then I made the mistake of looking at one of the top ranked teams. I’m doing now what they did two rounds ago, I’ll never catch them, so why bother :(
Anyway – like you D’ambro to Clohesy and then Jordon to Flanders
Still got Jackson to deal with, got Blakey instead of NWM, don’t have Sharp, didn’t get Yeo or Crouch.
Seems strange to be doing so bad when the team value is almost $19m
Nice jump through the rankings Brian. After opening round I was ranked 33000+ now up to 2976, very happy. Scored 2190 this week. My dilemma this week is that I have to trade Daicos, if I don’t I have to play Thomas on field, yuk. So if I do Daics to Clohesy I can then get Flanders for Thomas and have 314K in the kitty.
I’m thinking the same trade of D’Ambro and Jordon out for Clohesy and Flanders
Def: Sheezel, Whitfield, Young, Clark, Burton, Draper (Pink, Schoenmaker)
Mid: Green, Bont, Steele, Martin, Bonner, Roberts, Mckercher, Sanders (Sharp, Clark)
Ruck: Gawn, Grundy (Barnett)
For: Flanders, Macrae, Jackson, Perkins, Reid, Cambell (Lazzaro, Cadman)
36k in bank. Unsure what trades to do, any help?
Gday Max, Perkins is out with a hammy so he should go. Maybe consider Dempsey, I know he’s rather expensive now but there’s not much to choose from. Up back maybe swap Pink for Clohesy. Good luck.
ur sister is fit, I want to smash. Ill take her to America if she behaves.
How is a 15 y’o SA brat going to take anyone anywhere?
Great work Matt. Loving the Podcast, especially David taking the p*ss out of you & your team.
Matt
I am with you have no idea what I am doing this year. My team just plain old stinks.
Great write up as usual.
Who goes first, Salem or Massimo?
Ok so if I’ve still got red dots Dean and Lazzaro is fixing them more important than say a mass to close hey then Jordon to Zorko?
The ones to fix first are the ones that will go backward this round. Dean, Lazz, Jordon are not going backward, but Mass might. If you grab Clohesy for Mass, then use the cash to move one of the red dots / byes to a better green dot.
Cheers makes sense
I’ve have gone Howes to Choshey which was the easy one.
My dilemma is Jordan to either Comben or Flanders?
Comben has a low breakeven, is cheap but could score anything and save cash.
Flanders everyone is getting him and his range of scores are 90+
So cash in bank or Flanders?
Flanders. Has the role and won’t put up a 30
