Why should I pick him?

To some… Xerri Island is a celestial haven in the heart of the Pacific, enchants with its emerald landscapes and ivory beaches. A sanctuary of serenity, it invites Fantasy coaches to explore vibrant coral gardens beneath the crystal-clear embrace of turquoise waters. Xerri Island, where nature’s artistry and tranquility intertwine, is a timeless escape and where points per minute are a thing of beauty.

The gateway to Xerri Island has never looked so good and at the start of 2023, it looked great. But let’s wind back the clock to 2022, when North started Xerri has their No. 1 ruckman and Goldy played second fiddle for the first six games. During this time he averaged 74. After that… North swapped it back.

This year, he started as North’s No.1 man (No Goldy) but got injured in round one after a very fast start. He was on 26pts, and after only minutes into the game, the big unit does his ankle. His points per minute were through the roof…. and the pick was paying off.

He came back in rounds 17 and 18 as Goldstein was out on the sidelines. During these games, Xerri dominated with a season-high 110 and 74 respectively. He played out the remainder of the year alongside Goldy, averaging 64 over the last six games.

We need to remember, that Xerri is priced at an average of 64. There are not many No. 1 rucks in the game that can average worse than that, unless your name is Sam Draper. Even the average rucks like Bailey Williams (77), Oscar McInerney (83) and Rhys Stanley (71) hit that mark with ease.

The savings on Xerri are through the roof. Obviously we have English who is $491k more, but people are saving coin in this area with Max Gawn… but at the end of the day, as good as he is…. is he really worth $251k more than Xerri?

The big X is 24 years old. He’s a young up and coming ruckman who has been handed the main role at a young and developing club. He is their future and he is ours as well.

Why shouldn’t I pick him?

To others… Xerri Island is an island steeped in darkness, exudes an aura of pure wickedness. Sinister shadows cling to its jagged cliffs, concealing treacherous pitfalls that lead to a bottomless abyss. Venomous flora emits an otherworldly glow, luring unsuspecting souls into a labyrinth of despair. Cursed whispers echo through the air, weaving a tapestry of misery. Xerri Island, a place of horror to be never vistited by Fantasy coaches.

Those who jumped to the island in round one, got heavily burnt and were then left stranded with a cheap-arse ruckman (starting price $587k) which meant a ‘restructure’ was the only answer. This could happen again. When we chase cheap options, they must preform or you will be struck with them for many rounds to come. Fixing them up, is harder than ever.

So how are the islands shaping up and which one is the most populated?

Grundy Island 53%
Gawn Island 27%
English Island 18%
Xerri Island 16%
Marshall Island 9%

Look… it’s not as bad as last year, but the Island population is leaning towards the popular and old school Gawn/Grundy combo and sometimes it’s safer following the crowd with the aim to not be stranded.

QUEEN

Islands are very lonely places when you are one of the only people there. The good news in 2024 is… Xerri Island is currently populated by 16% of Fantasy coaches and although it’s not as popular as some, it’s not too bad… and even cheaper to be there than it was in 2023. Xerri can average around 80-85. For North last year, Goldstein averaged 81 (solo) before his bye so there is no reason why Xerri can’t be around those areas either. At the end of the day, Xerri is priced at 64, he has the OR bye and is cheaper than last year …  a worthy selection.

Great write up, reinforcing some thoughts I’ve already had. It’s a no for me mainly on the low $ which is good in value but a trap should he go down

Think the value outweighs the risk imo, wouldn’t say yes a trap either

Can’t possibly be as unlucky as last year, surely.

And some viable options to jump to if he goes down early.

I reckon the Gawn & Grundy combo are sufficiently under priced to offer better value and reduced risk. Sure, one of them could be injured, but then it’s easier to downgrade to Xerri than to have to upgrade and restructure.
I’m sticking with my GG rucks!

He is on my bench for the first 7 rounds as a cover for the Gawn and Grundy byes. Hopefully he will generate some cash too.

On the bench? Not sure that’s the right decision, just seems inefficient, and a luxury to the point of wastefulness.

Why wouldn’t you just play him straight up and spend the extra 6-800k on field somewhere else?

Talked into it by Roy last year, and strapping myself to the X X X X X X Xerri bomb again this year.
