Roy’s Rollin’ 22: Pre-Christmas Edition

Okay, okay… the people have spoken and I have delivered. Use the comments section to chat and argue until your heart is content.

Due to popular demand, I have crunched the numbers and used my secret formula to come up with the top players in each position. Whist a couple of criteria are still being finalised, this is a great starting point to get the conversations flowing! Enjoy.

Good first up Rollin’ 22 (especially your dedication to the cause with your goatee). FWDs going to be tough as are DEFs. But I’d have Devon ahead of Greene… and Toby possibly slides a fair bit. Will he get the midfield clock that boosted his average to 98? I look forward to the upcoming podcast discussion to see how far off Jack Steven is and why you’ve cooled on Hugh!

Cant argue against most of this at this stage, but I think Steven will push into top 6 fwds and I reckon Taranto might drop a few points with Cogs/Ward/Kelly in the mids to start with. I think Danger might push top 8 mids if he plays mostly mid with Jenkins in.

Taranto is a genuine ball winning gun. He will be right up there again. I think the return to fitness of the GWS list will have the biggest effect on Toby Greene. If the other giants midfielders are fit he’s playing predominantly forward and not scoring the way he did in the back half of 2019. Don’t have him in my top 6.

I have him in at D4 presently. He was predominantly a mid in those last 5 games and he’s already said he is improving his tank to spend longer minutes in the mids this season. I reckon he’s a handy POD if we can keep him quiet enough!

Houston at D4? Im presuming you are going 2-2-2 with Doc as the other mid pricer. Thats a lot of $$ in your backline then. i have Gould at D4.

Sorry but S.Docherty won’t be the same. Hip surgery, hamstring problems, tendinitis of the knee requiring surgery, x2 ACL rebuilds on the same knee and surgery to fix an auto immune condition. His body has been through hell. I can see it going either of two ways. Total body preservation to increase longevity to his playing career, which typically nearly always means poor fantasy output. Or he will go hard and find himself injured again. At the very least he’ll be very tightly managed by Carlton, so expect late outs when slight soreness arises. He’s a great player but I just can’t see him being rolling 22 material anymore. Best case scenario is that he averages 80 in a stop start, highly managed season.

Yeah that’s a valid point but the value he poses is too good to pass up. Even if he doesn’t return to averaging 116 (I reckon he gets to somewhere between 90 and 100) he’s serious value and a certain starter in classic. But for the rolling 22 maybe not yet
