Calvin's Captains

Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 9

His top 5 last week had three of the rounds top scoring players. He’s up and about and back with more hot captain tips for round 9.

Welcome back you bloody legends.

It’s another round and it’s time to hunt down another ripper captain. My confidence is high after the three top scorers for the round sat inside my top 5.

This week, I’ve once again been crunching the numbers and it’s straight forward again.

The confidence I have in my four is huge. Anyone one of those guys should be wicked for you with a huge score next to their name after lock-out.

Good luck!

TALL TIMBER

Last week, my #1 captain option was awesome. Brodie Grundy pumped out exactly what I thought he would and posted a very nice 149… but finds himself outside of my top 10 this week.

He did score 135 against the Saints (Tom Hickey) last year, but this year they have been rather restrictive towards ruckman. Not a single ruckman has scored 100+ against them this year and Max Gawn’s 97, was the best for the season so far.

Grundy will break that trend though based on his form alone, but it’s a stat that has me looking elsewhere this round.

On the other hand, it should be a little easier for Max Gawn despite playing over in the West. This year against West Coast, Stanley (110) and Grundy (122) have found the scoring rather easy. Last year, Max played the Eagles twice but was up against his nemesis Lycett who held him to 78 and 111. He’ll only be against Vardy this Friday night and will find this a walk in the park.

$50k MONEYBALL ALERT: Max Gawn (RUC, $9,700) is a must-have on Friday night. Not only is he the only ‘real’ option, his record suggests he is set for a big night and sits firm in my top 10 players for the week. Click to play!

PIG TO FEAST

The Gold Coast Suns… yes pig, it’s your turn.

The Suns are the easiest team for midfielders to score against and they have given up the second most points to all players in the last three weeks. Last week, Oliver (161), Jones (114) and Harmes (112) all top scored for the Demons and remember the week before when Yeo (148), Gaff (144), Shuey (128) and Redden (120) all went bananas as well.

Tom Rockliff has played the Suns 14 times over his career at an average of 120 (if we excluded the game he scored 0 when he got injured). He scored 106 on them last year and before that he posted 123 and 127.

The other thing I like here is the fact that the game is at home. At the new Sty in 2018, Rocky has averaged 126.

Why not throw Travis Boak in there too as the highest scoring player for the year. He had 113 last year against these guys and over his career, he has only scored over 150 twice, and both times were against the Suns.

He averages 122 at home this year and will be awesome, just like our beloved pig.

GIANTS SCORES COMING

Surely Lachie Whitfield plays this week, and when he does, he’ll march straight back into my top 10.

It couldn’t get much easier for him meeting Carlton at home, a team he scored 118 and 125 against in his last two meetings.

Carlton sit as the easiest team to score on at the moment which also means that Stephen Coniglio should have a day out as well. However, he sat forward 34% of the game last week and only attended eight centre bounces. He scored 144 on the Blues last year, but what will his role be?

Over the last three weeks, Carlton have given up the most 120+ scores and 14×100+ scores which also indicates that Josh Kelly who had 115 last week will also be huge. He scored 153 on the Blues last year and I’m even tipping Tim Taranto to also go 120+. He’s averaging 110 in his last three, he will go smack-down on these guys in the final game of the round.

WHAT ABOUT THE OTHERS…

Andrew Gaff v Melbourne @ Optus Stadium – Returns home where he has scored 144, 115 and 134 this year. Had 101 on the Demons last year when they were much better than they are now.

Rory Sloane v Brisbane @ the GABBA – Copped a tag from Berry last year (72pts) and is coming off 130 from round 8.

Adam Treloar v St Kilda @ the MCG – 96 last year, was the third time he didn’t score 100+ on the Saints in as many games. The best midfielder score against the Saints this year was Oliver with 114. No one else has scored higher against them. But still… Treloar will be fine.

Lachie Neale v Adelaide @ the GABBA – 101 last year on the Crows, but only averaging 94 in his last three this year.

Elliott Yeo v Melbourne @ Optus Stadium – 97 and 146 are his last two scores and he had 91 and 130 on these guys last year.

Matt Crouch v Brisbane @ the GABBA – Will he even fly I’m tipping no. Had 121 on the Lions last year.

Patrick Dramafield v Bulldogs @ the GMHBA – 91% time on ground last week and played through the middle. He smashes the Dogs and has scored 100, 156, 135, 143, 110 and 110 in his last six against them. Should be top 5, but my trust levels are low with him at the moment.

Angus Brayshaw v West Coast @ Optus Stadium – 76 v the Suns last week, he’s forgotten how to football.

Mitch Duncan v Bulldogs @ the GMHBA – #1 man based on form over the last three weeks at an average of 131. Scored 111 and 169 in his last two against the Dogs with that 169 a career-high.

Clayton Oliver v West Coast @ Optus Stadium – Round-high 161 last week but could attract a Hutchings tag here. He avoided it last year and only managed 92 and 75. Eagles are the hardest team for midfielders to score against too. Be careful with this one.

Dayne Zorko v Adelaide @ the GABBA – 134 and 136 are his last two scores. Beasting it!

Nat Fyfe v Essendon @ Marvel Stadium – Likes Marvel where he has averaged 116 in his last four, and scored 123 on the Bombers last year.

Tim Kelly v Bulldogs @ the GMHBA – On fire! 141 last week and even had 119 on the Dogs last year, his second-best score for that year.

Jaeger O’Meara v Richmond @ the MCG – No tag coming this week as his scores have been smashed in recent weeks because of this. Richmond are mega easy as well, giving up the second most points to midfielders. Had 73 and 93 on the Tigers last year. Not a captain, but a hold if you own him.

Jack Macrae v Geelong @ the GMHBA – Geelong are the hardest to score on over the last three weeks and as if Macrae needs that. Didn’t play the Cats last year, but before that he had 80 and 70. Have mercy!

Dusty Martin v Hawthorn @ the MCG – 110 and 67 against Hawthorn last year.

Josh Dunkley v Geelong @ the GMHBA – Geelong are a lot tougher than what he has been playing against where he scored 127 and 145. Running hot though.

Zach Merrett v Fremantle @ Marvel Stadium – Last year Zach was tagged by Banfield and scored 112 and 78* (coming back from concussion). Before that he had 144, 124 and 121 on the Dockers who are one of his favourites to play against. 136 last week and has scores of 143 and 99 at Marvel this year. He’ll be massive again!

My round nine fantasy captain will be...

Thanks for the info Calvin. However, the weather is forecast to be pretty poor. Should that be a factor, and would it make a difference to the rankings list? Have Rocky, Boak and Kelly, and wondering if Kelly would be the safest option because of this. Thanks for any advice/opinions in advance guys

think I’ll go with either Josh Kelly or Lachie Whitfield as captain. Reason being, the weather forecast says it will rain, so i’m not sure how the pig will do in the rain.

Calvin where do you stand on trading in Dunkley this week… given his tough opponent and the Bevo factor? Would be moving on Worpel for him…

I got 8 out of the top 10 listed above there Stewie little. Gonna be cracking serious pork knuckle this weekend, so what now. You can use a razor but don’t let the team behave ya. It’s the reason you triple back and get poked. I’m similar to scar face and in my case, I’m the jiggy fella with sacks and hella gats.

    Hi guys,
    I have several questions I want to open up to all DT Talkers to comment on;
1.) How does Melksham’s injury impact Brayshaw?
2.) And from here to their bye, how much more will Brayshaw average than Walsh?
3.) What will Brayshaw average to his bye (has 97.3avg YTD)?
4.) What will Walsh avg. to his bye (has a 92avg YYD)?

Mean while on the ‘Coaches Panel’

    -“Everyone’s a sheep”
-“Don’t pick that player, pick someone who’s gonna get you more points”
-(Insert carefully written question about trades this week) *coaches panel answer: “yes”
    – 30 mins of whatifs.
    – “everyone’s a sheep” again
    – “Subscribe to our patreon, but I’m not gonna tell you what trades I’m making”.
    – 25mins of talking about Zach Merrett and how he’s destined to be bigger than rocky and Mitchell combined.
    – “everyone’s a sheep” and here’s 10 reasons why you shouldn’t be a sheep but I won’t actually tell you who would be a good trade target.
    – “AFL fantasy is for kids”
    – “subscribe to our patreon for exclusive content”which includes 15 exclusive episodes on sheep.
    – “that’s a great question (insert patreon account name), I’m not gonna tell you what I’ve done or what the others have done, but that’s totally a good trade, let’s move on”

This is why I listen to the legends at AFL Fantasy!!!!

Because of how many times they have won it or even come in the top rankings ?
They are the sole reason why everyone’s teams are near identical and why it’s so boring now
Because no one does the research or anything themselves anymore, they just come here and hey presto, heres your team and rookies to pick, not to mention captain as well
Any noob can do it now
Thank f for the real AFL Dream Team

You hide behind a single letter “W” for Wanker. You pay the piss out of the traders, and 180,000 other people because they haven’t won AFL fantasy. How many times have you won it dipstick? i thought so.You blame the traders because everyone’s team is similar, when anyone with half a brain realises it’s because everyone wants the best players. You make an unsubstantiated statement that no one does the research anymore, WTF do you know, coming to this site is a valuable part of the research. Any Noob can do it now, well bugger me, your proof of that spud. If it’s so boring for you don’t play it, if you don’t like the people, the site, or the traders then GTF off the site and go back to your Real AFL Dream team, which in reality, is everything you’ve been bitchin about.

Patreon is a site you can use to support people who make videos or other content. You see it a lot on the bigger youtube channels and stuff. Usually its done as a way to finance their content creation. People go on a register to do a monthly donation of a couple of bucks or something and get rewards or perks for donating

The AFL Fantasy guys are popular because they are just like the rest of us playing the game. Yes they do a lot of leg work, but they are also paid to do so. They don’t ask for money but they are transparent about their teams and strategies and let everyone know when they make mistakes. Which is more than I can say for the Coaches Panel who would rather berate others for mistakes and just spend the majority of their podcasts calling everyone a sheep. Also the reason why most teams aren’t identical is because heaven forbid people want to chase the points. You know, to win the game. You can have POD difference players that allow you to get ahead, and that is up to the individual. At least AFL Fantasy tries to help their audience.
