Afl Team Sheets – Round Eight

Pop by and check all the major INs and OUTs for round eight with Jelms.

In the famous words of Brian Taylor, boy oh boy, wowee. Curveballs galore this week with multiple rookie selections being omitted or not receiving a call-up as many of us expected. Besides this, some exciting inclusions come back this week, so let’s get into all the INs and OUTs for round eight!

Captain of the INs side this week, Gary Abblett returns this week for the cats. The little masters’ return could see danger spending even more time forward, as we saw when the midfield trio of Abblett, Selwood, and Dangerfield all played together in round two against the Hawks. For the Dogs, Marcus Bontempelli returns, after being named as a late out last week. Popular breakout selection, Blake Acres comes back in for the Saints this week, following his rest last week. The Power have loaded up with four inclusions this week, namely Sam Powell-Pepper, Tom Clurey, Chad Wingard and Tom Rockliff. Three of these players come in due to omissions to other players, with the Power wielding the selection axe following their dismal showing against the Eagles. For the Suns, Aaron Hall has received a call-up, hopefully, we can see him fulfill some of the fantasy potential he has shown in the past.

Luckily, we have some debutants coming in this week who’ve shown a lot of promise in their respective seconds’ competitions, with Isaac Cumming (Def $170,000) for the Giants and Tom McCartin (Fwd $206,000) coming in for the SwansThe Eagles have also handed Brayden Ainsworth (Mid $208,000) a debut. Ainsworth has been heavily touted by The Milkmen this week, so keep him in your calculations! Paul Ahern (Mid/Fwd $170,000) has been named on Norths extended Sunday bench following a solid stint in the VFL.

Tim English has been dropped for the Dogs clash with the Lions.

Leading the OUTs this week is cash cow extraordinaire, Tim English (Ruck/Fwd $425,000) who has been dropped by Luke Beveridge after back to back stinkers of 38 and 39. His absence will hurt owners, but none more than those also with Nic Naitanui (Ruck $497,000). Nic was suspended following his tackle of Power forward Karl Amon; his one game was upheld after a failed appeal was heard on his case. Recent rookie selections Nick Shipley and James Worpel have both been dropped by the Giants and Hawks respectively. Joining them in the seconds will be rookies Dom Barry, Lachie Fogarty, Darcy Fogarty and Jack Petruccelle who’ve all been omitted besides the managed Lachie Fogarty. Luke Shuey, Joe Daniher, Nathan Wilson and Dion Prestia will all sit out this week through injuries.

Still missing this week are a raft of guns, including Josh Kelly, Lance Franklin, Rory Sloane and Dan Hannebery, who we hope to see return in the upcoming weeks. Make sure to keep an eye out for Sunday team announcements, where we will find out who makes the final cut. Unfortunately this article has only been released on Friday morning again this week due to work circumstances, hopefully, it’s back on Thursday evenings soon! As always, kick off questions in the forum below or feel free to contact me on twitter.

    D: Laird, Lloyd, Seedsman
    Hurn, Murray, Doedee (Naughton, O’Shea)
    M: Tichell, Danger, Fyfe, Martin
    Treloar, O’Meara, Kelly, Cunico (Crowden, Banfield)
    R: Gawn, Crossley (NicNat, McInerney)
    F: Gray, Smith, Heeney
    Christensen, Waterman, W.Rioli (Ratugolea, Guelfi)

    Before we knew NicNat was definitely out I was planning on:
    Crowden -> E. Phillips
    Waterman -> Sicily
    $39k remaining

    But now I’m wondering whether to offload NicNat and bring in Stef Martin instead of Sicily ($30k remaining). But it does worry me that Gawn and Martin have the same bye weeks.

      If you’re prepared for a possible 50/60 from Crossley go with the original trades
      You must trade Crowden but maybe Nic Nat to Jacobs or Kreuzer or Lycett (now he’s out)
      Best of luck

    No mention of Ed Phillips ($170K MID} debuting, Jelms? Tossing up who’s the better option to bring in – Phillips or Ahern (If he survives the bench cut)

      Would prefer Ahern if he manages to survive the cut!

    Can you not see how the wind has been completely taken out of the sails of the Team Sheets by:

    1) The Traders embargoing the release of the Team Sheets until Friday due to their decision to hold the spotlight on their Thursday evening podcast covering the teams, and

    2) The use now of the Friday Scramble for the immediate discussion on the information released in the team selections.

    Just look at the number of posts to the Team Sheets: Week 7 > 5 posts Week 8 > 4 posts.

    Is this the inevitable outcome of the increasing focus on the Cult of the Traders CEO personalities, or is Jelmsy (and those of us who value the Thursday release of the Team Sheets) going to be given some air to breath with?

    And, are we going to get a Forum returned to us on Thursday evening (when it is timely) to discuss the team drops?

    Is anyone now auditing this Team Sheets Forum now it is set up on Friday?

    5 posts last week and 4 posts this week.

    Many of us very much appreciated (and for good logistical reasons) what the Thursday opening of this Forum provided. “Not Happy Jan” with it being made semi-irrelevant, or at least gutted in its usability, by opening it Friday in competition with the ‘Scramble’.

    The CEO’s should give the troops a fair go and appreciate that keeping the spotlight on their own activities at the expense of a share of the stage with Jelmsy and those of us who want to discuss the team drops on Thursday evening in the Team Sheets, is personal posturing a the expense of practical provision of service to the punters.

      Hey mate, the scheduling of this article has not been pushed back by the traders, it’s just come down to my poor work hours of late. As mentioned, hopefully we can get it all sorted for the coming week, and actually ensure this article provides some value for the fantasy community.

        Thanks Jelmsy.

        All the best with what I can appreciate is a considerable on the spot demand on a Thursday night. I hope you are not taking all of the hit if there are others on the team that have impacted on your own efforts, and should take some of the hit too; but you have let us know that it is a time management issue and not a Forum policy issue, and we take that reassurance. It is easier to turn around time-management than policy and you have many fans of the Thursday edition of Team Sheets supporting your efforts.

        All the very best to you and genuine thanks for anchoring the Team Sheets work.
