In the famous words of Brian Taylor, boy oh boy, wowee. Curveballs galore this week with multiple rookie selections being omitted or not receiving a call-up as many of us expected. Besides this, some exciting inclusions come back this week, so let’s get into all the INs and OUTs for round eight!
Captain of the INs side this week, Gary Abblett returns this week for the cats. The little masters’ return could see danger spending even more time forward, as we saw when the midfield trio of Abblett, Selwood, and Dangerfield all played together in round two against the Hawks. For the Dogs, Marcus Bontempelli returns, after being named as a late out last week. Popular breakout selection, Blake Acres comes back in for the Saints this week, following his rest last week. The Power have loaded up with four inclusions this week, namely Sam Powell-Pepper, Tom Clurey, Chad Wingard and Tom Rockliff. Three of these players come in due to omissions to other players, with the Power wielding the selection axe following their dismal showing against the Eagles. For the Suns, Aaron Hall has received a call-up, hopefully, we can see him fulfill some of the fantasy potential he has shown in the past.
Luckily, we have some debutants coming in this week who’ve shown a lot of promise in their respective seconds’ competitions, with Isaac Cumming (Def $170,000) for the Giants and Tom McCartin (Fwd $206,000) coming in for the Swans. The Eagles have also handed Brayden Ainsworth (Mid $208,000) a debut. Ainsworth has been heavily touted by The Milkmen this week, so keep him in your calculations! Paul Ahern (Mid/Fwd $170,000) has been named on Norths extended Sunday bench following a solid stint in the VFL.
Leading the OUTs this week is cash cow extraordinaire, Tim English (Ruck/Fwd $425,000) who has been dropped by Luke Beveridge after back to back stinkers of 38 and 39. His absence will hurt owners, but none more than those also with Nic Naitanui (Ruck $497,000). Nic was suspended following his tackle of Power forward Karl Amon; his one game was upheld after a failed appeal was heard on his case. Recent rookie selections Nick Shipley and James Worpel have both been dropped by the Giants and Hawks respectively. Joining them in the seconds will be rookies Dom Barry, Lachie Fogarty, Darcy Fogarty and Jack Petruccelle who’ve all been omitted besides the managed Lachie Fogarty. Luke Shuey, Joe Daniher, Nathan Wilson and Dion Prestia will all sit out this week through injuries.
Still missing this week are a raft of guns, including Josh Kelly, Lance Franklin, Rory Sloane and Dan Hannebery, who we hope to see return in the upcoming weeks. Make sure to keep an eye out for Sunday team announcements, where we will find out who makes the final cut. Unfortunately this article has only been released on Friday morning again this week due to work circumstances, hopefully, it’s back on Thursday evenings soon!
