Adelaide vs Richmond

BEST PICK: Matt Crouch ($10,500 MID)

While many punters will get emotional about the game-breaking Sloane and the classy Gibbs, there’s a level of beauty to Crouch’s game that transcends him above that pair in fantasy. They can’t all be the expensive precision tool – someone’s got to be the hammer, and that’s Crouch. And no one’s smashed in more nails (so to speak) than this bloke, setting the record for the most disposals in a season last year before smacking out 41 touches against the Bombers in Round 1 to truly pick up where he left off.

Matt’s record against Richmond is exemplary with the Tigers being his favourite team to play against in his blossoming career, resulting in scores of 122 and 124 last season. Get him in.

BEST STAT: Sam Jacobs ($8,900 RU)

Toby Nankervis ($7,400 RU) has always been a good Aussie battler, but there’s no doubt that, strictly as a tap ruckman, he’s out of his weight class when it comes to facing up against some of the aerial heavyweights of the competition. In fact, Richmond were ranked 6th-easiest for ruckmen to score against last year, despite Nankervis playing out a solid season as the Tigers main big man.

Sam Jacobs smelled blood last year and took full advantage of his edge in the air, notching hitout totals of 50 and 49 in his two feastings. That included a monstrous 158-point effort back in Round 6 too, meaning Sauce’s ceiling easily makes up for the extra salary cap grief in the ruck slot.

BEST VALUE: Jack Graham ($3,500 MID)

He shouldn’t have been this cheap last week, and there’s no way Graham should sit at basement price again after gritting his teeth and carving out 13 tackles against the Blues in Round 1. To finish with 87 Moneyball points from just 13 disposals is an excellent strike-rate, and indicates that he’s nowhere near the upside he’ll have once he starts getting the pill in his hands more often. Locked.

BEST VALUE: Tom Doedee ($3,800 DEF)

It was a slow burn, but Doedee battled his way to 80 MB on debut and he didn’t look out of place doing it. He needed 7 marks to get there, but given the fact that he’s replacing the side’s aerialist in Jake Lever, he’ll have every opportunity to repeat those numbers again here against the Tigers. I’m not going to give him must-pick status here, but settling for Doedee makes those gun scorers like Crouch, Gibbs, Sloane, Dusty and Laird so much more accessible.

BEST RETHINK: Josh Jenkins ($7,400 FWD)

Australia’s largest seagull has found it tough to maintain the facade lately, and his Round 1 effort was yet another game to skip when it comes to scrapbooking his career. To the uninitiated, you’d have thought it was Jenkins, and not Fogarty, who was making his AFL debut with the amount of newborn-deer antics from the big man in what can only be described as a clangerthon.

Jenkins has now averaged just 49.9 MB points over his last 7 starts. If this was against a cellar-dweller, I’d be much more receptive to jumping on this downhill (practically vertical) skier, but not in a Grand Final rematch – facing the team he managed scores of just 52 and 42 against last season.
