Focus Players
We won’t know full lineups, so half those rookies we just won’t know about. Lincoln McCarthy (FWD AF $125,000 RDT $134,300) I’m fairly certain will make the team but most of the hawks rooks and Josh Cowan (DEF) as well as Daniel Menzel (FWD) there is no certainty. With preseason niggles, some are also a bit concerned Jordan Lewis (MID) could miss the cut. I think he should be ok with reports he is raring to go. He is only in 3.73% of teams.Luke Hodge (MID) named in back pocket gives much credibility to his being DPP defender again. Sam Mitchell (MID) I think would be a great POD premium midfielder as well. Grant Birchall (DEF) and Josh Gibson (DEF) are both def premium options.
At cats, captain Joel Selwood (MID) is back, and Patrick Dangerfield (MID) remains all the rage. Mark Blicavs (RUCK) in comparison has dropped off as a ruck favourite, mostly because of inclusions of Stanley and Smith. I think people are concerned by Jimmy Bartel (MID/DEF) age, and likely resting status, but he is a proven premium time and time again. I’ve seen Mitch Duncan (MID) in a few teams as a midprice option, and even Corey Enright (DEF) yet again as a defender.
Shag’s Pick
WORST SHAG’S PICK EVER
We won’t know 100% sure if he will be chosen for Fantasy, but if we are going to have a preseason hype player, it would have to be Daniel Howe (DEF AF $265,000 RDT $271,300).I think he is a very good chance to make the cut, he has done everything right, and there are a lot of rookies in that extended bench. Just be aware there is risk.

Zac Dawson (DEF AF $172,000 RDT $154,600) LOL!
Focus Players
People are keen to see if Tom Liberatore (MID) prove he can get back to his premium best. Lachie Hunter (MID) is another great smokey that some are keen on. Jason Johannisen (DEF) popped up over NAB cup with a 129. Josh Dunkley (MID AF $162,000 RDT $121,300) made the cut, and with a mid rookie shortage could find himself in peoples teams. Jack Macrae (MID), Luke Dahlhaus (FWD/MID), Matthew Boyd (DEF) are premium mainstays.
Michael Barlow (FWD/MID) seems to be the second most popular forward premium. Don’t be concerned about him named on the bench, for some reason that happens often. Thommy Sheridan (DEF) is one of the hype players, and with Michael Johnson not making the side you’d think that would help. For some reason Nat Fyfe(MID) isnt that popular, but there is no reason he won’t score well. Same can be said of David Mundy (MID).
Shag’s Pick
Marcus Adams (FWD/DEF AF $155,000 RDT $121,300) strong has made the cut, and gives us a solid rookie option. His NAB form was pretty good, and that FWD/DEF status is very handy.

Tom Curren (FWD AF $172,000 RDT $190,100)
Focus Players
Sam Gray (MID/FWD) is a hype player, for good reason, his form has been great. Ollie Wines (MID) lost some favour over the preseason, but is capable of scoring very well. There has been absolutely no love for Brad Ebert (MID) so he will probably score 150. Robbie Gray (MID) is one to watch for potential DPP status, he is named forward flank.
Saints mids Jack Steven (MID) and David Armitage (MID) had amazing years last year, not as popular this year mainly just for price. I can’t see any reason they wouldn’t continue their form. People were all over Jack Billings (FWD) start of preseason, but he doesnt seem as popular now. BIlly Longer is struggling with form, so Tom Hickey (RUCK/FWD) could be a sneaky mid price alternative to Leunberger.
Shag’s Pick
There are slim pickings in the mid rookie department so Jade Gresham (MID AF $187,000 RDT $148,300) making the side is very timely. With reports of his debut down at St Kilda, you didnt even really need to wait for the extended bench selection.

Focus Players
Stefan Martin (RUCK), nope, cannot think of a reason to not pick him. Tom Rockliff (MID) preseason niggles, however, cannot think of a reason not to pick him.
Im super keen on Mitch Robinson (MID/FWD) end of last year form and NAB form amazing, will slot in that midfield more without Beams. Similarly Daniel Rich (DEF/MID) is a sneaky back POD option with beams out. Great to see Pearce Hanley (MID) in the team. I really hope he gets DEF status again. Tom Cutler (DEF) has presented himself as a mid price def option. The Eagles centreline of Jack Redden (MID), Matt Priddis (MID), Elliot Yeo (DEF/MID), Andrew Gaff (MID) are all DT relevant. Yeo named on the wing is promising. Nic Naitanui (RUCK) is a premium ruck option, he is too inconsistent for my liking, but this could be his year.
Shag’s Pick
A quite popular rookie priced defender, many were sweating on extended bench selections, but Ryan Harwood (DEF AF $198,000 RDT $262,800) has made the cut. The experienced player has had solid form in the NAB cup, and many think his pricing is too good to ignore.

Caleb Marchbank (DEF AF $174,000 RDT $214,500)

Max Gawn (RUCK) has done enough to show himself a powerful ruck choice. The young Dees side has a host of smokey options this year with Tomas Bugg (DEF), Jack Viney (MID), and rookie priced Ben Kennedy (FWD/MID), Clayton Oliver(MID) all looking like options. Nathan Wilson (DEF) impressed some with NAB form over at GWS. Jack Steele (FWD/MID), Steve Johnson (FWD), Toby Greene (FWD/MID) are all popular choices.
Shag’s Pick
Heath Shaw (DEF AF $532,000 RDT $556,800) is a player I have a love hate relationship with.. Was on my never again list, but now he seems to be the must have defender. Heater’s role at GWS is simply too good to ignore.

Kyle Langford (FWD AF $187,000 RDT $208,700)
Focus Players
Absolute boon to have rookie upgraded and named in Ryan Davis (MID AF $125,000 RDT $105,800). Aaron Hall (FWD/MID) is proving a very popular pick after end of last year and NAB form. I highly rate Touk Miller (MID/FWD) as well. Matt Rosa (MID/DEF), Kade Kolodjashnij (DEF), Jesse Lonergan (DEF/MID), and even Trent McKenzie (DEF) are a big bunch of Def options. Good to see Dion Prestia (MID) back from injury. So many Bomber rookies to choose from, my favourites are Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (FWD/DEF) who is a bit of a cult hero. Top ups Matt Dea (DEF), Ryan Crowley (MID), Jonathan Simpkin (FWD/MID) all capable of scoring enough to be decent cashcows. Amny are happy to see Matthew Leuenberger (RUCK) named as he offers the best cheap ruck 2 option.
Shag’s Pick
Seems an obvious pick, but Gary Abblett (MID AF $581,000 RDT $547,800) even in Fantasy taxed rate is too cheap to ignore. Will worry some with his preseason niggles, but worth thie risk in my opinion.

For Swans Dan Hannebery (MID), Josh P. Kennedy (MID), Kieren Jack (MID), Tom Mitchell (MID), Luke Parker(MID), Callum Mills (MID), Isaac Heeney (FWD) . There are some who think Lance Franklin (FWD) can return to huge form this year. Interestingly Brodie Grundy (RUCK) didnt make the cut.
Shag’s Pick
Callum Mills (MID AF $227,000 RDT $215,800) already announced to make his debut last couple of days, has ticked all the right boxes. He has had a great NAB cup, and if he keeps up the great form will stay in the top 22.

Focus Players
Rory Laird (DEF) is a very popular defender for good reason, he is consistent and he likely takes Jaench’s role. Matt Crouch (MID) ticked all the boxes with his NAB form and looks set in the crows midfield. Rory Sloane (MID), and veteran Scott Thompson (MID) are nice premium smokey options, I have a hunch the latter could start racking it up like the “old days”. Paul Seedsman(DEF/MID) has a lot of potential at his new club with some impressive NAB form. Both Sam Jacob (RUCK) and Todd Goldstein remain top ruck choices. Daniel Wells (MID) is quite frankly to cheap to ignore in my opinion. Injury ralways remains a risk. Lots got off Jed Anderson (MID/FWD) after NAB cup form, but he seems to have decent JS. Rookie Wayne Milera (FWD) was impressive over the NAB and good to see him named for the crows.
Shag’s Pick
Brad Crouch (MID AF $415,000 RDT $321,900), we didn’t get to see him over NAB, he smashed it in the seconds last week. So cheap in RDT, since he is forecast to slot straight in Dangers spot.

Jed Lamb (FWD AF $189,000 RDT $208,700)
Focus Players
Dustin Martin (FWD/MID AF $573,000 RDT $600,200) is a perennial favourite, seems to be this years forward must have, the most obvious VC captain. With off field issues some are jumping off. I personally think it will simply fire him up. Expect either a huge score or a report. Brandon Ellis (MID AF $568,000 RDT $595,200) is a POD mid premium that many think will step up this year. Bachar Houli (DEF AF $481,000 RDT $503,500) did enough over NAB cup to cement himself in many peoples backlines.
At Blues, we see a return to the field of Marc Murphy (MID AF $544,000 RDT $569,900) but he’s way too risky a choice in my opinion. Keep on watchlist. Kade Simpson (DEF $474,000 RDT $496,200) lost a bit of favour over NAB cup, but is still a good premium DEF option. Trent Cotchin (MID AF $506,000 RDT $530,000) is a player who hasnt lived up to expectations last couple of years, if I had bigger balls I would slot him in my midfield, I have a feeling he could go bang. A few other smokeys are Patrick Cripps (MID), Matthew Kreuzer (RUCK), Sam Docherty (DEF) Matthew Wright (MID/FWD) .
Of the Rookies, I think the best option is Connor Menadue (FWD/MID) who showed great NAB form. I didnt think Jed Lamb (FWD) or Daniel Rioli (FWD) showed enough over NAB, but you could sneak them on your bench. Corey Ellis (MID/FWD) is another who showed a bit over NAB and could easily be picked up, concerns he may be dropped for Deledio next week. Andrew Philips(RUCK/FWD) seems too expensive as a rookie ruck for me, but he may have better Job security than other rookies. Jacob Weitering (DEF) is a solid rookie option with a lot of fanfare, on the expensive side, seems to have good job security at the blues. He could find himself a bit of a key position backman at times, but if he plays more free like his first NAB cup game he will score well. Refer to Jeppa’s Junior’s for more info.
Shags Pick
Sam Kerridge (AF $299,000 RDT $177,100) seems to have fit straight into the blues lineup and came out firing. Absolutely must have in RDT, and still worth it as a cheap mid pricer in Fantasy. Put a sneaky VC on him as well for the loophole (you heard it from me first).
