Round 14 was one where you either had Captain Swan and logged a mammoth 2300 or better score or went Captain GAJ and ended up on a respectable 2100-something. Hearty congrats to all coaches who went big last weekend! There’s actually been a fair bit of DT-relevant news and twatter this week and it looks like this could be a round of mini-carnage. Let’s have a look-see…
Breaking: No Pendles
Pardon the pun in the headline, but the latest news on Scott Pendlebury is that he will sit out another week, per @JacquiReed10‘s tweet this morning…
Captain Hindsight says that his coaches should have traded, but to play devil’s advocate, we probably could have guesstimated that he’d be out for a decent stint considering that it was a fracture. Ah well, we live and lose. Actually in this case we’ve lost a bagful of points with him sitting on the bench for so long. I’m sure there are plenty of coaches who are considering rage trading Pendles and I really don’t blame you at this stage…
Dusty Dusted
One minit he come good, nek minit he go bad. That pretty much sums up the week that Dustin Martin has had. The good arrived with his tidy 109 on the weekend and the bad erupted yesterday when the young starlet and popular FWD selection made the headlines for all the wrong reasons alongside now-ex-teammate Dan Connors.
The short story is that the pair played up and Dusty’s been hit with a 2-week club-imposed suspension for sleeping through Tuesday’s training session, which obviously puts a dent in the forward line of many a coach. With cover being lean, hopefully you’ll have one of the Zork, Dicko or Elliot to bring on in place of Dusty. And let’s be honest here, any of those three are likely to return you a score well within Martin’s scoring range, so no critical loss there. However, if you haven’t got cover and you’re desperate to avoid a donut, a sneaky sideways trade to Goodes (with some risk) or a trade-plus-cash to another premo could be on the cards.
I really hope Richmond can keep their momentum going and crack the top eight by the end of the season. The next few rounds will be a bit of a test though, with quite a few first-team regulars now unavailable through injury and suspension, so we’ll soon see if there’s any fight left in the Tigers.
Boyd To Miss?
In amongst the twatter this week were whispers about the physical state of uber-premo Matty Boyd… The possession hound has reportedly not fully trained this week, prompting a few coaches to throw a possible late withdrawl out there. However, the official Twitterer of the Western Bulldogs issued a ‘should be right’ tweet to concerned DT coach @HurleyGun, so Boyd should be good to go. Sure, we know that footy clubs never lie when it comes to injury news, but make sure you have a MID EMG selected, just in case.
Bye-bye BJ…
After punching well below his season average of 91 for the past three games, Goddard decided to make up for it by punching his tagger, Sammy Wright, as he struggled to 75 against the Kangas last Sunday eve. We knew as soon as we saw the replay that BJ would cop a sanction and two weeks it is for Mr Grumpy Pants. While still a good DT defender, the glory days of his 100+ averages look like they have passed and unless he gets a change of scenery next year (GWS?), BJ may be conceding to Lids, Scotland and Carrots as the premium options to consider for 2013. And that trio are somewhat less likely to take you on a roller coaster ride.
Lance-Less
After dragging himself for the last few minutes of the Hawks big win over the Blues last Friday night, here are the rolling facts so far this week around Buddy… Clarko’s stated that scans have cleared Franklin of any serious hamstring damage… He was eased back into training and has picked up well through the week… All the signs are positive and, like other Dusty owners, I hope Buddy gets up this weekend. Otherwise there will be mini forward line carnage with both Martin and Franklin out. Just when I thought we’d left the donut frenzy of MBRs behind us…
Two Dolla Bah-Nanaz!!
Okay, so it’s maybe not quite the whole market shopping experience and he’s not two-bucks-a-kilo either, but Carrots has bottomed out at $373k this week and with a BE of 22, now’s the time to get on before he bolts with a predicted $20k+ price rise next week. He’ll be the most popular ‘in’ for Dream Team coaches this week, especially with Red Mist Fever (see Bye-Bye BJ… above) sitting out the next couple of rounds. The extra benefit is that Carrots should keep you regular… Well, he should keep your team regular at least, with a 90+ average for the rest of the year.
Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Trading? Heard any juicy news bits, gossip or rumours? Got a rant or a rave? Stick it in the comments and let’s get some healthy chatter going ahead of team lists tonight. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!
