Good Trade, Bad Trade: Round 12

Well thank god that week is over! In what could be labelled ‘The worst week in DT history’ this round will be talked about for years to come and passed down from generation to generation ‘And your Grandad, well he wished he didn’t bring in Zaharakis and Sandilands, that just ruined his season and he was out of contention for the car’ in which the kid replies ‘what’s a car?’

We do not need to be reminded of the carnage of the previous round, just hearing the names Orren Stephenson or Clinton Jones  puts me into the foetal position and a cold sweat.  Fortunately this week we can look forward to trading in players who will not have a bye for the rest of  the season and start to complete our teams. This week we can take a look at the best players to bring in, and whose time might  might be up for DT 2012

Round 11 players: A new hope

So far the most traded in players for round 12 are:

Young gun Sam Shaw ($104,200, b/e – 70). This kid is highly rated down at West Lakes and looks to be keeping his spot in the team for the short term (let’s hope the next two weeks, at least). Maxed out tigers Brandon Ellis ($205,000) and Steve Morris ($245,300) and Docker disappointment Lee Spurr ($138,500) will give you varying amount of profits from the trade and save you donuts in the coming rounds. Popular paddy Marty Clarke ($307,700) is  a popular pick to be shifted in his bye round to Shaw. This is currently the most popular trade of round  (1578 times)

Eagles golden mop Matt Priddis ($388,600, b/e  30) is a bit  like Joel Selwood last year, Priddis has been affected by a low score due to concussion (17) in rd 7 which  has brought his price plummeting down. With only 2 scores below 95 for the season (and one of them was the 17), Priddis is super consistent without being spectacular and will make a fine M6/7 for the rest of the season, while covering other mid guns in the next two rounds. Upgrading once ball magnet Jimmy Magner ($285,900) or the sunset that is Kyal Horsely ($308,700) (unless you panic traded him out last week, like me) are popular choices this week. Another great upgrade option is Lion Jack Redden ($492,300, b/e 64). the other sauce up at Brisbane is back to his tackling best with 4 scores over 120 in his last 5 games. Will be over $500k after this week and will make a great point of difference come the pointy end of the season.  Other Midfield options like Scott Thompson ($501,300, b/e 174 ) or Matthew Boyd($548, 000, b/e 136) can wait another week due to their high break evens.

Adelaide’s Ricuitto protege’ Patrick Dangerfield ($452,000, b/e  114) is pretty much the only rd 11 forward even considering to bring in, but personally, I think his ship has sailed. He was a steal at the start of the season ($349,800) but now at a more premium price, could let you down right when you need him.   He has a high b/e, and is still yet to prove real consistency (CR 25.6). But on the flip side, he has played every game, has a high ceiling and is the 7 highest averaging forward in the comp. Has been a popular swap for bomber Zaharakis ( who will probably be back next week judging by the accurate prognosis’ of AFL Doctors). misfiring cat forward Billy Smedts ($186,000k) has done sweet FA all year and should not be in anyone’s long term plans. get him out now before he forces you to put him on your field. Other forwards at a similar price like  Robinson, Reiwoldt ( Nick and Jack) and DT legend Ryan O’Keefe need to be considered next round or round 14.

In 24 hours, I imagine Sam Gibson will be close to the top of the the most traded in, after the joey was elevated to the senior list and the word is that he will play straight away. At $85,800 a lot of coaches will bring him in purely based on his pre season form. with  minimal midfield cows on the horizon, lets all prey he is the saviour that we need!

The turf toe strikes back

Portable crane hire Aaron Sandilands gave us DTers the middle finger when he went down with another bout of turf toe, this time keeping him out for 10 weeks. To continue the nightmare that is the ruck department this season, finding an adequate replacement looks harder than Wayne Carey or Gary Ablett Snr getting into the hall of fame. The other beanpole in the west Dean Cox ($473,200) is  the most popular trade for Sandi, while the most popular haircut in football Mullet Maric ($483,400) is currently the  second most popular trade. Outside these two it’s a bit of pot luck with the red hawk Roughead ($400,200), Sporatic gun (when HMac doesn’t play) Todd Goldstein ($397,000) and returning saint Ben McEvoy($400,400). Outside the square is perennial bench sitter John Griffin($350,000, b/e 99) who will be guaranteed 10 weeks of work in Sandi’s absence. The mystical bird showed us in 2011 that he could pick up wear Sandi left off, averaging 89 in the 7 games he played.  With a ton under his belt  in rd 11, he could be a good smoky.

*A big out shout to Troy and his team ‘Sandi Cox Roughead’ when I was researching the big 211! Brilliant!

Twitter Time

Thanks for all the tweets this week, hopefully most of the questions have been covered in the topics above.   One topic I didn’t cover is ol’ china knees Nick Malceski ($307,500 b/e 100). Malceski has not reached his previous lofty heights of 2010 and is only averaging 70 for the year. Hanging round that awkward price (or as @Adzman78 valued him less than half a packet of chips), now could be a good time to flick him down to Sam Shaw or up to a Brian Lake . If only Beau Waters was available! (currently my only donut this round, screw you Beau)

Well this week HAS to be better than last week. You going to pull the trigger and upgrade or hold steady and conserve those trades?

Discuss it all here!
