Josh Fraser: Deck of Dream Team 2011

Today is Josh Fraser’s 29th Birthday. He wants you to pick him in your Dream Team for 2011… mainly because his average of 55 on ’10 was well below what he’s capable of and as #1 ruck at the Suns, he’ll be ready to rack up some massive scores!

Name: Josh Fraser
Club: Gold Coast
Position: Ruck
Bye Rounds: 1 & 9
2010 Average: 55
2010 Games Played: 9
Predicted Average: 75

Why should I pick him? Gold Coast needed a ruckman, so they went with former premium Dream Team ruck Josh Fraser. He will be massively underpriced as those who have played this game for a while will remember back to the days of Fraser averaging 95 back in 2006… and even in 2009 still knocked out an average of 88. Last year was a year to forget for the big man who managed to play his 200th game out of charity. At the Gold Coast, he will be a star! He will be pretty much the first picked as #1 ruck and when not in the middle, will spend his time up forward. There is no way he won’t average more than his hideous output in 2010.

Why shouldn’t I pick him? Byes in rounds 1 and 9 hurt… but rucks should be the easy place to cover, especially that early in the season. Another worry is that he is past it? Well, he might be at 29 and his body isn’t the best one going around!

Deck of DT Rating. QUEEN – Fraser could have been a JACK at that price, as he could almost be classed as a cash cow. Unless he is smashing scores that would place him as one of the top ruckmen, you’d be looking at offloading him… maybe for Sandilands midway through the season if you started with a Cox/Fraser combo. He will improve and will give you decent scores because he’ll have the opportunity that he didn’t at the Magpies in 2010.

Co-captain of DT Talk since we started this thing in 2007. Best finish was 13th in 2009... that was a long time ago. Follow on Twitter: @WarnieDT
