AFL Teams 2016: Round 9

5:30pm Friday 20/05/2016

Sunday extended benches are in. Good news on the rookie front, with Alex Neal-Bullen (Def/Mid), Jackson Paine (Fwd.), Rhys Mathieson (Mid.), Billy Evans (Mid/Fwd.), Kieran Collins (Def.) giving us downgrade options. The main guy I’d keep my eye on is Rhys Mathieson (Mid.) who has only been out due to injury. Nothing too DT relevant has been listed as an out, unless you took a speculative punt on rookies such as Bailey Dale.

6:30pm Thursday 19/05/2016

Teams are in! All I can say is carnage. Grab your loved ones and hold them tight. Its going to be one long week. Gaz, Hall, Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch, Dayne Beams OUT. No sign of Barlow or Wells. Rookies Daniel Howe, Tom Papley, Tom Ruggles, Daniel Rioli, Corey Ellis OUT. There also doesn’t look to be much new blood to trade in either.
Some respite for those who have a few PODs in Josh P. Kennedy, Robbie Gray, Tommy Sheridan, Trent Cotchin, Kane Lambert, Toby Greene or benched rookies with Peter Wright, Ryan Davis, Daniel Currie, Jacob Weitering, *Dean Kent, who are IN and may help the odd team that still has them.

5:30pm Thursday 19/05/2016

Round 9 Teams announced shortly ~6:15pm. A lot of concerned punters, already big news with Bachar Houli out for 12 weeks, Matthew Boyd suspended 1 week, Rory Laird not yet back from injury and same likely or Daniel Wells. Question marks remain on Gary Abblett and Aaron Hall, and we are not sure if Michael Barlow will get back into the team. Already our team depth for this week will be likely tested. And of course, poor Dayne Beams is out for the season again, and no magic return for Rockcliff.
Not DT relevant himself but for tagging Ben Jacobs is sidelined with foot problems.

Important times to remember:

  • Zorko or Voldt ?

  • Wow so much whining…

    Wells… injury prone
    Ablett… injury prone
    Rocky… injury prone
    Brouch… injury prone
    Boyd… rest prone
Ruggles, Adams, McCarthy, pap, Ellis etc… shaky JS and injury prone

You know the risks when you pick these players…

You know that carnage happens every year…

The only people who should be complaining are Houli owners as he is durable as they come so the injury was unexpected. The rest is just standard, get over it and rise to the challenge.

    • Cool. Thanks man.

    • Thanks Captain I Told You So for another helpful comment.

      Good luck this year hombre!

    • What about Barlow, hall?? Abletts had a bad run of injuries of late, concussion is unlucky. Can’t question his reliability apart from last year so you can’t blame people willing to back him in. 8 games after a long lay off you’d be expected to be a bit rusty and have a shorter gas tank. I agree with the rooks being heavily relied on,that’s the tough one you just have to swollow.

    • Wow, so much whining

    • MGPT… wanker comment prone.
      MGPT… zero value prone.
      MGPT… self-appointed legend prone.
MGPT… voted most likely to be punched in the mouth prone.

  • Hey Lads, quick question. Who should I play on my field out of Menadue against Freo, weaker opposition, or R Davis against Crows, possible midfield minutes with Gaz and Hall out?
    All help is much appreciated.

  • Bringing in Lewis this week, think his effort may take an adrenalin/emotional boost. Clearly this could backfire. Good luck to Roughy, I’ve been there to.

  • What happened to C Ellis? Injury or form? I was optimistic after his game last week.

    • “General soreness”

    • He is listed as soreness. Cotchin and Lambert probably needed to come in and he would have been among the few on the chopping block and his soreness probably ensured it was him who went out.

He will come back into the side, but it will be hard to say exactly when.

  • Hold McCarthy or Papley?

  • Holy smokes… 11 out and 1 on the extended bench. 6 out in the forward line……. there’s no coming back from this.

  • Thoughts on Robbie Gray?
    Dpp very handy

    • wait a week or 2. Has a BE of 150.

I’m personally looking to hopefully get him in a fortnight for under 500k.

  • over $3.5M not playing this week – over 1/4 of my total team value….!!!

It’s weeks like this there is not enough alcohol to ease the stress….

  • On Monday, in addition to the Golden Stubby, Matt needs to have the Homer Simpson Award… in honour of this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NpVDwFYDZc

  • Hold Fantasia or cop a doughnut?

  • Gary Ablett to Dayne Zorko or Zach Merrett?
    In 2 minds!!

    • They’re very hard to split man. I’d just go whichever one is better for your bye structure. If that’s not a worry id go Merrrett for the higher ceiling

      • I went Zorko but only cos of bye structure issues

      • Zorks has gotten the highest score out of the two, he technically got the higher ceiling even tho they about the same.

  • Vince or Montagna for Wells? Vince better for byes but Joey a better scorer

  • Thanks Trent appreciate that Mate

  • going mccarthy > pittonet (for that extra cash) via cox and gaz > roo

  • Who to trade in order out of Houli, Kruezer and Ablett?

  • Ablett to Zorko
    Wells to Walters

    0 doughnuts

    I will take that

  • Who to trade out first in order? Houli, Hall, Kruezer, Ablett

    • Houli…..out for 12 weeks
But depends of your carnage cover issues
And why in gods name do you have Kruezer,,,,,

  • Mathieson +20k v McPherson??

    • I would go McPherson…and then wait to see how Mathieson travels

  • Montagna v Merrett?

  • if I have guys on my bench that aren’t getting a gig, like kommer and beech, should I be getting them out in prep for byes? pretty new to fantasy

    • Yes get rid of them ! I’d be surprised if you didn’t have bigger problems first ??

      • yeah getting rid of wells and fantasia this week, then hopefully i’ll start sorting out the blokes that aren’t playing, just feels like a boring waste of trades

  • Docherty, McVeigh, Mills, Wagner, DBJ, Tippa, (Harwood, Laird)
Hanners, Adams, Wines, Hunter, Zaha, Shiel, Smith, Blakely, (Gaz, Rocky)
    Stef, Leuey, (Currie, Cox)
Dusty, Buddy, Petracca, BenKen, Kerridge, Hall, (Papley, McCarthy)
    40k in bank

Any trade tips? Looking for rd 15 premo defs/fwds too

    Cheers

  • My side is a mess but anyway will field a full team this week…
how do these trades sound Houli>Mcveigh and Hall>StNick

    • I don’t trust either of them. McVeigh is not the player he was, and Nick is an injury waiting to happen.

  • Carnage

Who trade to trade out in RDT. Barlow or Wells? Is Barlow ever coming back or Wells to injury prone.

    • Hard call. I’d move them both on. Obviously Lyon doesn’t like Barlow (but loves Z Dawson WTF ??) and I thought Wells was coming good but too many injury problems.

    • Take your pick. Barlow might come back but seems to be out of favour. Wells seems to be back in the injury zone.
      I’ve cut both of them.

  • is m crouch to hopper good trade or should i go lower to matherison?

    • personally I would avoid Hopper at his price……Go Matheison, cash is king

  • MacPherson or Mathieson?
To be honest, I don’t like either of them, but thinking of taking MacPherson and hoping for some cash.

  • My biggest problem this week is A Hall. Any idea how long he’s out for ? My bench cover is pretty weak.

  • Do we trade out Shane Biggs?

    • Also, Ablett to Hopper or Menadue to Mathieson?

    • What’s he done wrong ?
Surely you have bigger problems than that !!

      • he has a be of 119 and scored 32, and 64 in the past two rounds. I don’t, actually.

        • If you’ve somehow managed to avoid all the carnage then you may as well. His scoring has been well down since the other defenders started dropping out with injuries

  • Thoughts on who should get the bullet paps or Ellis?
    Cheers

  • Trade Barlow or Ablett.

    Going
    Houli to Simpson/Docherty
    Barlow/Gaz to Lewis

  • Like many others I got hit hard this week. And having already kept Laird, Rockliff and Wells in the past weeks the teams this week haven’t helped.

    Have $117k
Copping a donut no matter what.
    Keep Rockliff, wells.
Trade Ablett and Crouch to Lewis and Walters
    Leaves me with $41k

    Thoughts?

  • Mcrouch and barlow to dusty and simpson

    Or

Mcrouch and wells to dusty and mathieson?

    1 or 2
    Thoughts?

    • Both good trades. Depends if you want to keep some cash up your sleeve, in which case you would go for option 2.

  • Got a couple quedtions.
#1 hoili to vince our wait a week for boyd to return?
#2 if i put emerg on callum mills but he is on the mid bench will his score still get covered in the backline?

  • Hi lads just saw a tweet saying that the person had reversed and changed trades so he could cover Merrett…..Is he a definite out or is the player just being cautious?
Asking cause i have no fwd bench cover and will have to scramble if he is
    Cheers

  • Who would be the best cheap defender rook to trade in, Williams, Collins or Mohr?
