AFL Teams 2015: Round 9

It is round 9 teamsheet time, and we are all hoping desperately for some valid downgrade options. There are 27 changes to Fri/Sat teams, and 5 confirmed outs so far for Sunday squads.
With only Fraser McInnes and Seb Tape with negative break evens, there simply isn’t a lot of downgrades on offer. Luckily the Fantasy gods seem to have rewarded us with quite a few. A mature age rookie ruck debuting for the Suns might be just what we were looking for. A couple of popular defenders out for Hawks, but one big name back in. Big names out for Blues. And interesting twist with a big Dogs ruck.

Fantasy Relevant Omissions :

Judd, Murphy, Gibbs are all out.
Newton out for Dees. If you haven’t already sold, now you need to.
Ryder – Omitted
Leslie rookie didn’t make the cut for Gold Coast.
Birchall, Suckling, Langford all out for the big scoring expected game against suns.
Goodes, Cordy, Talia, Jong out, but is Cordy really out?
Yeo – taking his 1 week punishment.

Fantasy Relevant Inclusions :

Graham – Just above rookie priced.
Clurey – Def rookie option
Hodge – Back in to bolster our defences. He should run amok this week.
Minson – but is he in? will depend on his appeal
McBean – Back in to cover Vickery
Geary, Lonie, Riewoldt
Colledge Barrass, Kolodjashnij, Luxford- extended bench rookies
Majak Daw, named on extended bench.

New Rookies

Keegan Brooksby
GC Ruck ($120k AF, 102.9k RDT)
With so few ruck rookies playing, and such a lack of downgrade targets, Brooksby will be a popular trade in this week. Worst case scenario he sits in r4 position. Best case, he gets a few games and even provides cover over byes.

Tom Clurey
PORT (Def. $120k, 22 be AF. $158k RDT)
Jackson Trengove injury has given Clurey a chance. KPP so dont expect big scores.

Daniel Robinson
SYD (Mid. $120k AF, $124.6k RDT)
Screams sub to me, but one to keep an eye on.

Nick Graham
CARL (Fwd. $266k, 70 be AF. $296.3k RDT)
Judd Murphy Gibbs out gives this “expensive rookie” a chance. With so few downgrade options he is worth a mention.

Daniel Howe
HAWKS (Def. $205k AF, $117.9k RDT)
A hawks def rookie from left field.

Joel Hamling
WB (Def. $120k AF$124.6k RDT)
A defender on the radar preseason finally gets a shot.

Liam McBean RICH Fwd. ($120k AF $124.6k RDT) is also an inclusion, but would like only be as long as Griffiths or Vickery are out.

New Rookies listed for Sunday games are Michael Luxford, Jake Kolodjashnij, Brant Colledge, Tom Barrass, Jonathon Marsh.

Of those I like JK the best, PORT Def. ($120k AF 124.6k RDT). See if these players make the final cut before considering.

Some Rookies that kept their spots Karl Amon, Connor Menadue, Corey Ellis, Bailey Dale, Jack Fitzpatrick, and Fraser McInnes.

Sunday Games: Jackson Nelson, Blake Acres, Eli Templeton, Liam Dawson, Trent Dumont. Check tomorrow afternoon to see if they make the final cut.

For more information on any of these rookies refer to Jeppa’s Juniors.

Other Thoughts

The Fantasy Gods actually graced us with a few new rookie choices this week, and there is a lot of good defence rookie options for once.
As already noted Minson is named but that will depend on his appeal result.
Hodge back against Goldcoast should be one to grab if you want a quick score. The interesting game to watch for me DT wise is Calrton vs Sydney. Can the young rookies of Carlton rise to get decent scores? Both Hawks and Sydney could have massive scores this week.
Out of Amon, Dumont and Acres sub conundrum, I still think Amon is best chance to break into team, others are sunday listed. Swallow back in is bad news for Dumont.
Of the def rookies, there is a lot of talk about Jake Kolodjashnij, if he is named he might be worth a shot. Hamling is another who we were surprised he hasnt been named yet. Clurey is more of a KPP, and will hold his spot only as long as Trengrove is out.

NOTE: Minson successfully appealed and will be playing, meaning Cordy is out.

  • Let me be the first to ask…

    Hamling, Clurey or JKolo???

    • Clurey is in for Trengove (out for 6)
Hamling is in for Talia (omitted)
JKolo hasn’t made the 22 yet
So, I’d go Clurey as he has the best short term job security

      • Was going to go Hamling… Maybe might get Clurey in, thought Hamling was in for Goodes…

        • hamling plays same role as talia im pretty sure, I think lukas webb is in for goodes.

        • Clurey is in for trengrove, both he and hamling shouldn’t score well but clurey would be better mainly because of his bye imo

    • You beat me to it add Jonathan Marsh from Collingwood to that list. He is a Def Fwd

    • Clurey for JS, since Trengrove is out for weeks, however he is a KPP so dont expect a big score.

There is a bit of hype about JK at Geelong.

Hamling was in many preseason teams AND he has the advantage of coming in with Goodes out for weeks and Talia omitted. If he plays a good game he could easily keep his spot.

Others you can look at are Marsh from pies and Howe from hawks.

  • Anyone know much about brooksby?

    • He’s a 120k ruckman
      25 years old
Undersized (197cm) but always gives his all
Turned down offers to play basketball for American colleges
Last 2 NEAFL games has had 41 hit-outs, seven marks and 34 hit-outs, 3 goals

      • I take it it’s too risky to play him R2. Any thoughts on JS? Is Zac Smith injured?

        • this stage I’m going Cripps>Rocky, Griffin>Brooksby

          • I noticed that Griffin is listed as an emergency. May get some game time soon.

          • Yeah Griff may come in if they decide to rest Sandi or Clark

          • Although it’s more likely they are taking Griff back home to Adelaide (free flight), I’ve seen Hannath named emergency too this season

        • Probably low, it looks as if GC want to play a taller forward line. Wether this is just against Hawthorn or a strategy they’ll go with for a while remains to be seen. However, he looms as the ideal red vest candidate.

    • Brooksby’s been carving out huge numbers in the twos.

    • Ruck Rookie, recently elevated from rookie list. Is like the only ruck rookie getting a game.

In some ways low risk, as you probably have non playing rookies on your bench anyway, and you can downgrade a more expensive rookie not getting a game, or a Clark/Belly.

Best case scenario, you have a ruck rookie who is playing that can give you cover. Worst case, you get stuck with a non playing rookie in r4, which you probably already have.

      • Well said… Or if you’re like me and 20% of other teams, you own Ayce Cordy. who has been omitted- making Brooksby the perfect downgrade option.

  • Oxely->Clurey

Good trades or too early too cull these two?

    • definitely too early to get rid of both, maybe 1 is ok but I would still look to trade others, im sure there are other rookies you have that should be traded.

    • I’d say to early, especially if you have others to go first (eg. McIntosh, Tarrant, Salem) But this may suit your bye structure

      • This is my DEF: Yeo, Newnes, Hibbo, Rich, Saad, Oxley (Tarrant, Goodes)

Only other rookie I want to cull is Krakour

  • Currently sitting 46th Overall. This weeks trades are tough.

DEF: Mundy, Newnes, Ibbotson, Saad, Oxley, McIntosh ( Tarrant, Smith )
MID: Pendles, Rocky, Fyfe, Parker, Beams, Treloar, Barlow, Cripps ( Krak, Amon )
    RUCK: Mumford, Jacobs
FWD: Gray, Swan, Dusty, T.Mitchell, Bontempelli, Vandenberg ( Byrne, McInnes )

I have $48k to spend any ideas would be great guys. Will return the favour. Thanks

    • I would downgrade McIntosh to Clurey to get you some cash and then that should be enough cash to go Tarrant to Thurlow which will strengthen your back half.

  • My Team:
DEF: Yeo, Hibberd, Newnes, Oxley, Saad, Kelly (Goodes, McIntosh)
MID: Lewis, Pendlebury, Heppell, Fyfe, Parker, Barlow, Cripps, Vandenberg (Glenn, Amon)
    RUCKS: Grundy, Bellchambers (Naismith, Downie)
FWD: Gray, Swan, Martin, Bontempelli, McCarthy, Krakouer (Clark, Byrne)

    Cash: $208,000

    Thoughts? Thanks

    • One option is Goodes to Clurrey, McIntosh to Hodge and have Yeo on the bench, however it would mean not getting Rocky this week.

I would still trade Goodes as he is out for a while with a broken arm, so another option could be Goodes to Clurrey and then Naismith via Clark and VBerg DPP to Rocky with Clark as R3, Vberg at F6 and Krakouer F7.

Just some thoughts that could be useful.

  • was going to go Cripps and Newton to Barlow and Acres, but with Carlton having Judd, Gibbs and Murphy out you would expect Cripps to see the ball a hell of a lot more and he shouldn’t get the tag? Thoughts on this?

    • Im pained because I have a full midfield with Cripps as my last mid onfield rookie, and I dont have Rocky.

Cripps is now a prime candidate for a tag, although Sydney may not bother tagging.

      • Doubt they’d tag Cripps. Having a 1:4 handball ratio isn’t too damaging lol

  • Oxley named in the VFL side. Time to trade?

    • His named as an emergency, is he officially dropped?

    • Whoa thats big. Lots of people would have no much bench cover.

Need to keep a close eye on sunday teams with that one.

    • I’m trading. Seems Toovey has taken his spot.

    • Most teams name all the extended bench in VFL side. So that doesn’t mean anything.

Toovey played with Oxley up to round 7 so he doesn’t have to push Oxley out … wait till 5pm Friday.

  • What do you Guys think of Murdoch from Geelong? He’s 370k on dream team and scored 137 last week. I haven’t watched the games but some have said he’s taken up Duncan’s role.

    • It was his best game. It feels like a bit of a one off, but who knows this could be the beginning. He hasnt done a heap for Cats over last few seasons.

    • Great news for football (that was a ludicrous decision)
      Bad news for Cordy owners.

  • Trade out Bont or Yeo for Hodge?

  • My backline has been nothing but headaches all year! If Oxley is out will have 4 outs in it. Planning my trades has been a waste of time every week

  • Just confirming that Oxley is named onfield in VFL this week.

    • So are guys like Grundy, Taylor Adams and Seedsman so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

      • haha yep true :P but the reason is…I stuffed up

It was pointed out in My teams I put in last years teamsheet (oops).

        Its been updated above.

    • Surely Grundy wont be playing for the 2nds? Will probably be a few outs in this one

    • FYI you may notice, all the extended bench are named in the team.

Anyway that solves the issue of Oxley being named in VFL, seems to be irrelevant to his chances of being named in the Pies team.

  • Would you trade out Bellchambers (70 AVG, 65 BE) or Mitch Clark (62 AVG, 42 BE)?

  • why would they drop oxley after a smashing performance last week? doesn’t make sense…

i’ll leave him on the pitch as i have saad and jake kelly for cover.

  • Daisy Thomas to play more mid time?

Not much said about Biggs, is he fantasy relevant?

  • Also mitch hallahan from gold coast, job security no problem, midfield time a plenty back to back 100’s??

  • Im considering M.Crouch, N.Jones, Wallis, & Thurlow as value undpriced mids.
thoughts? Jones & Thurlow cheapest they’ll ever be?

  • Who should I FIELD: Amon or Yolmen?

  • How does this sound boys

    Lumumba to Thurlow
    Coniglio to Rocky??

  • Cripps to Amon or Clark to Amon and use Vandenberg dpp?

    • Everyone is talking up Cripps this week with all the Blues mids out.

Thats a pretty high expectation and potential a lot of attention. I would still risk Cripps over Clark, he should at least get his BE.

  • Suckling & Yeo & Oxley might all be in a few teams

  • Cripps to rockliff and Bont to Dahl or back in Bont and go goodes to hamling or clurey?

  • YESS macrae is back

  • Just wanted to jump in here to say MASSIVE THANKS to Shags for his teams updates. Brilliant. Takes so much pressure off me (and does a 200x better job of it) while we are doing our live chat and then filming/editing our Friday video for the AFL site.

Shags, you are a legend! So easy to read. Cheers mate!

    • +1, great work Shags. Makes it a lot easier than scrolling through team sheets when someone is providing all the relevant information.

    • Thanks Shags (and everybody else who contributes)!

  • Need some help please

    My team

Mundy, thurlow, newnes, rich, Oxley, saad (Kelly,Byrne)
    Lewis,Ebert,Stanton,beams,vandenberg,Cripps,Rockliff,mcintosh (yeo,Glenn)
    Goody,belly (Clarke,Holmes)
    Mitchell, grey, swan, Martin,Bont,hogan (McCarthy,cox)

Have traded lumumba to rocky but unsure of 2nd trade and have 35k left

  • Not sure on who to field for Mids out of CEY or Krak, and in Forwards out of McCarthy or Clark??

    • CEY and McCarthy definitely
Krak red and green vests risk whereas CEY should pump out 80-100
McCarthy will bag a few vs Bulldogs and clark has been struggling as of late (R3 for me)

  • Think this is the week to downgrade brown (def) as his break even is in the 90s…what’s the job security like for hamling and j kolo? If I get clurey it puts me just out of reach of CEY to lewis (lewis BE 116 will be smashed against the Suns!)

  • What do you guys think Lycett in does for Sinclairs JS/Scoring? I was going to bring him in for Belly, but now I’m extremely worried he’ll last that few weeks I’d want, definitely with Darling coming back too, No way they can fit Nat, Lycett, Sinclair, McInnes, Kennedy and Darling all in the same side.
