Were now playing for the big time. It’s finals time baby! Get keen!

Finals Time Baby!

This is what we battle all year for, finals time. Our top 4 was set before this weekend but the last few spots relied on this weekends games. Poor Chop is playing for the Tit-ed Cup. And in that, Tit-ed is actually a chance to take it out! He got pretty close to knocking me off this weekend, but alas, the Warne Dawgs were too strong. Thanks Beau Waters coming home strong!

So what this means is that Roy finished on top, Calvin 2nd, myself in third… and who cares about Chop and others in the Tit-ed Cup! So our big battles will be destROY vs Walkie Talkie and the Warne Dawgs vs Calvinator. Oh yeah! Very keen for that this weekend!

For the rookie DT coaches, the finals work the same way the AFL Final 8 works. Here’s ours:

Yes, I’m sorry! I bought in Paul Chapman this week. He only had 88 after copping a knock on his patella tendon. He will be right to play this week (according to Bomber) but damn… do I not have any luck with my trading?! I would like to say a big eff you to all of those people who were laughing at me with my Colin Sylvia trade in. Do youself a favour and have a look at his scores since coming back from his bloody toe. Hopefully Chappy can do the same over the next 4 weeks!

Time for the big guns to have a rest?

Last year, it was Round 19 that the Saints rested all of their big guns. They only play Port this week… so it could happen again! But surely they won’t look at it after the mighty Bombers smacked them up! Our star Cats (and Magpies) won’t be rested this week… you wouldn’t think in the big clash on Saturday night they would want to be going in any less than full strength. Fingers crossed anyway!

Come and have a beer with us this week!

We are heading over to Melbourne this weekend so come and have a beer with us and watch the Saturday arvo footy on TV at Transport in Federation Square. So come on down at about 2pm and help us get warmed up for the massive Geelong v Collingwood at the MCG that night!

    Good article Warnie. What does everyone think about bringing in Corey Enright for the finals? I’m looking at straight swapping him for Maguire. Was gonna bring Gram in, but I’m 500 bucks short.

    Warnie, when did you trade Sylvia in? Try trading him in after his massive first 2 games, only to cop 4 or 5 weeks of rubbish scores, donuts for 3 weeks after that, and only now he is repaying the faith, THANKFULLY! But otherwise, yes, Sylvia is a machine! He could be also be the man you might have to pin all your hopes on come that last game in Round 22 (counting you make the GF, of course) as Melbourne play North in the very last game for the year!

    Would love to see you in Melbourne on saturday DT crew as I am a Geelong member, but I am getting wisdom teeth out on the Friday. Have been waiting 9 months for it so I guess I will be out of action.

    What do you think of this trade —-

    Judd to McNeil (DPP) then bring chappy up to Mids from the Forward line

    Pods or Brown to Voldt—- will leave me enough to straight swap

    Maguire to Goddard with enough cash and the last trade to bring in

    Ottens to Sandi

    I finished 2nd on the ladder by .32% and looking at the scores I wouldnt have to do any trades to take out the $320 cash prize.

    Any advice would be sweet

      I like the option of McNeil, even though he might not play to give some versatility. You obviously have a few trades up your sleeve. I cant argue with your trades but DT this year seems to be lethal.

      Sandi is getting tired, Judd could still play and who knows who will get rested.

    Haven’t seen any footy in the last four weeks and have only vaguely been following my dream team with a top four spot sewn up early…and finished fourth. My dilemma is: Do I trade for Kelly (likely to be rested at some stage) or recruit Gram who is fresh as a daisy and in peak form and condition? Advice and/or comments welcome.

    Report Card:
    His starting value indicated an average of about 70 and he’s exceeded that. His value never dropped below the start point.
    He’s a mixed bag and you generally get a famine or feast. I bought him hoping he’d have a good start and I could upgrade him, I went to Pav.

    Bartel cost me the minor premiership!!! Ended up 2nd.

    I lost by 6 points…his emerg for Bartel scored 40 more than my dud emergency Bastinac.

    Was a shootout between Sandilands (me) and Pavlich (him) in the last game!

    Hopefully we meet in the Granny and I get my revenge!

    finished 11th in my league with 7 wins…. but i had the second highest avg per round and the leagues best pctge. hard-luck story of the year.

      I was feeling the same way, was in 7th place with more points scored than the top four in a tight league, then this week drew on points and percentage in 4th place so it went down to points scored and now i’m in the four!! Karma it’ll get yah, eventually

    I need to upgrade Maguire (probably to someone like Gram) but I only have $1200 in the bank and three trades left. I have Gysberts and JKT on the midfield bench and am looking for some cover incase my mids get rested. I have Jaensch and D.Stewart on my forward bench, with plenty of DPPs to swap into the mids if I get a DPP on the mid bench. So, should I downgrade either Gysberts or JKT to McNeil and then upgrade Maguire? Or should I just downgrade Gys/JKT to one of the upcoming midfield rookies?
    When should I do this? Who should I downgrade? Who should I downgrade to? Who should I upgrade to?
    I also have plenty of backline bench cover in Webberley and Strijk, but I want somebody who can score more than Maguire and those two (especially if Heater doesn’t come back this week and people like Enright and Goddard get rested).

    Given I only have 3 trades left and cant afford anymore donuts, I want to shore up my reserves in the midfield and want to trade Gysberts to?
    Speight from NM?
    HArwood from BL?
    Crichton from Freo?
    Any news on any of these guys and their job security?

      I haven’t seen much of Harwood or Speights but Crichton looks ok.

      Doesn’t get a lot of the ball but pops in for cameo appearances to kick a goal or lay a good tackle or something.

      Palmer is due back next week but bollenhagen should go before cricthon so I would say his job security is ok but not great.

      I am considering Hardingham who had an 82 in his first game or Robbie Hicks who only got a 37 but is dpp and if he holds his spot could be an ok pick

        Harwood got 83 last week with 10 tackles. Brisbane midfield is in need of someone hard core. BE = -68
        Hardingham got 42 this week with BE = -47. He got 4 goals last week which he wont get every week.

        Fantasy Freako likes Speight of North; 58 last week BE of -31
        I am leaning towards Harwood.

        But I like the possibility of Hicks who is a DPP which would be great help.

    What does everyone think about Pods? I have had him all year, but he’s fairly inconsistent and seems to have hit the wall in the second half of the season. I was thinking about trading him out for Stevie J or maybe N Riewoldt.

    looking to get chappy in next week as his breakeven is about 130, who would be the best to get rid of out of giansiracusa, rioli and brennan? siracusa looks as if he chops up for 2 weeks then goes quiet, rioli has the same trend and brennan just gets solid 80′s and 90′s…

      I would hold on to Gis, as he is still capable of racking up fairly big scores on his day. Plus I can’t see him being rested with the Bulldogs still battling to hold onto a top 4 spot. I got rid of Brennan a few weeks ago and haven’t missed him.

      I am searching for a trade for Trengrove in the midfield. Have some extra cash so was thinking about maybe Sylvia, Thompsn or Simpson. Thoughts?

    Good news for people who still have Shuey sitting on the pine

    He played his first game back in the WAFL this weekend, didn’t do much, only had 12 possies but at least he’s playing, might be back in time to save me from a 0 in the grand final to reward me for holding him all year.

    I have 4 trades and $250 000 left. Don’t ask me why but I still have Kennelly, Maguire, Hunt and Blake in my defence. Thinking of getting Gram in this week, and waiting for Fisher and Gilbert to drop next week and picking them up. Thoughts? Any better defenders around the same price?

      Umm yeah i have the same problem with my forward line (5 guys who i would be happy with out)

      Hunts in good form lately and I wouldnt be trading him out befor the others
      Maguire and blake IMO need to be traded first
      Gilbert, Fisher, Gram are probably the best defenders around that price. Enright, Shaw and Carazzo might be good too.
      I would do this
      Maguire > Gram
      Blake > Gilbert/Fisher/Enright next week
      Keep the rest of your trades for later
      it really depends on the rest of your defence and if you will definetly win this week and make it to the next round of finals in your league

    Ablett, Swan, Selwood, Judd, Chappy, Mitchell, (Banner and Gysberts)
    Who will get rested?
    I think Juddy might miss one due to injury but if hes 100% he probably wont because carlton desperatly need to make finals
    Ablett and Selwood didnt miss any games at the end of the season Will they this year?
    Chappy missed 3 last year but was he injured?
    and i think Swan and Mitchell will play outthe season like last year
    Im asking because I want to trade Banner to Harwood but if harwood was to get droped i would have no cover
    who do you think will get rested?

      Chappy’s hammy could/should get a pre finals rest. Round 22 vs WEagles would be the game.
      I reckon Bomber would want his hardest ball winner J. Selwood to have a break too to have him so fresh & so clean for finals.
      My thought anyway.

      Out of those two I would get Harwood because he is playing and bench over is invaluable this time of the year

      If you want a dpp in your mids and can afford a little more there is Hicks from richmond who debuted on the weekend but costs 30k more then McNeil

    My options are:

    Carrots, Malceksi, Shaw -> Lake
    or
    Ball or Stanton -> Monty or Boyd
    or
    Brown, L Davis or Pods -> Chappy

    No idea what to do.

      I reckon Chappy will be rested sometime soon, as his hammies are always a huge question mark. But I’d thought this all year and didn’t pick him up and this has cost me all year! If you don’t already have Goodes, perhaps he is another option.

      I picked up Boyd a few weeks back and have been very happy with his input. Not sure whether the Bulldogs will rest players with a Top 4 spot up for grabs, so I’m thinking Boyd / Lake would be pretty safe in the run into the finals.

      I think Montagna and some of the Saints midfielders and defenders will be rested in the lead up to the finals. This methodology got the Saints to the Grand Final last year and I reckon Ross Lyon would employ a similar tactic, in the hopes that the team goes one better this year. I did also get rid of Pods last week for Reiwoldt (thinking that the Saints will want to get some games under his belt coming into the finals and wouldn’t rest him….hopefully).

    hey guys, i have 2 trades left going into the finals, finished top and probably dont need to tarde this week but
    my midfield is Swan, Hayes, Bartel, Dal santo,Thompson and Mitchell and though it did ok for the season i think its abit too unique with dal santo thompson and mitchell so am thinkin while ablett is still only 435k with a BE of 44 to bring him in for either Mitchell or Dal santo. If i do it this week itll allow me to have roughly 50k for my final trade!! thoughts?

    À question on tactics
    I have finished top 4 in all 3 leagues, all 3 first final games could go eirher way.
    With 3 trades +215k left do i trade aggressive this week to try get straight through to prelim. Or do i back my team as is leaving those 3 trades for the last few weeks?
    Peoples finals tactics appreciated!

      I’m in a very similar situation, I would use 1 trade and upgrade your worst player for a straight up premium, then save other trades in case a premium gets rested in your prelim or granny and then you can do a straight swap to another premium and avoid the dreaded case of 500k bench warmers!!!

      yer im in the same boat as you, but only got two trades left and i want to get rid of josh kennedy weak line.

      i might use my two trades this week and then hope for no LTI and my bench cover is good enough to cover for the finals..

      its such a rewarded to go straight to the premlinary final.

      if you got a weak line in your team.. trade him out. take the punt

      Exact same situation, finished Top4 tough game coming up and only 3 trades as well (but less cash ~140k)..

      Im assuming the extra week’s break is simply to let you have a week off where you dont have to worry about your dt for once!

      So I guess I would lean towards not trading if you have a full team playing and save our trades?
      Then just make a good Cpt choice and hope for the best!

      My only worry is I dont have a fwd cover.. (Gumby :( what a shame.. poor kid)

    Hi DTers,

    I hate crew who do this, and i have been going back and forth all day with my mate who has fed me this info telling him he is lying but he is adament that this info is true…

    I hope to the dear lord above that its not though.

    Apparently, from a source that is related to one the club medics, Chapman is out for the rest of the season. He copped a knock on the weekend to his knee, allegedly trained last night and it flared up, he went and had scans and has, as my mate quoted ‘tweaked’ his ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

    Please dont shoot the messenger – I am putting this out there because i have trawled through every AFL article to try and prove this crap wrong but the best i could find was this from Bomber Thompson:

    “Lingy had a bit of a sore toe and Chappy got a bit of a knock to the knee, but from all reports at this early stage of the week they’re all in pretty good shape and should be ready to play, so it’ll be hard to put two people out.” …should?!

    As usual he has said nothing definite, so if there is anyone out there who knows if this is true please let me know – or even better if you went down and saw the cats train or know someone there that can prove this to be bullshit let me know too!

      Chapman will probally play. If it was enough to put him out for a week there would be more news on it. He might get rested if they they were playing west coast for example but I doubt it against Collingwood. He probaly play at 90% but that’s still enough for a 100 score.

    Ok, I’m top four in finals and have a selection issue for the midfield this week. Let’s assume that all of these guys are playing;

    Montagna, Boyd, Selwood (all safe)
    Stanton, Judd, Deledio, Ball – one of these will be on the bench as emergency.

    As I see it, Stanton could get anything between 70-130;
    Judd has been very ordinary lately, but playing Essendon can bring anyone back into form;
    Deledio is a certainty for about 95 week in, week out;
    And Ball tends to lift for the big games and won’t get tagged. He scored 120 on my bench against Carlton.

    Who should I give the big E to this week?
