AFL Teams 2025: Round 9

Round 9 Teams have dropped!

Thursday – Early news

Teamsheets have dropped! Round 9 teams are in ? Thursday game teams were already released last night for Dockers vs Pies, with no major ins or outs. Check the notes on that game below. The big news: Clayton Oliver has been confirmed to return after a week off, which will please those who held him.

The Bombers are set to debut not one, but two rookies ? Archer Day-Wicks (Fwd/Mid $230k) and Lewis Hayes (Def $230k). Hayes is the more interesting Fantasy prospect, boasting strong numbers in the 2s, while Day-Wicks is a sub-risk. Cashcow Bo Allan from the Eagles will miss this week after receiving a one-game suspension from the tribunal.

Elsewhere, it’s been reported that Mattaes Phillipou will be named for the Saints, while Jye Caldwell and Dylan Shiel are both available to return for the Bombers.

Important times to remember:

Thursday Game teamsheets ~6:20pm EST Wed

Weekend Teamsheets ~6:20pm EST Thurs

Sunday games Extended bench selection ~5:00pm EST Friday

GAME 1: Fremantle vs Collingwood

Thursday, May 8, 8:10pm AEST (Local Time 6:10pm) Optus Stadium Perth 🌦🌡

Notes: Cooper Simpson (Fwd $230k) could be a sneaky downgrade option, but he’s a strong sub candidate tonight. POD pick Hayden Young is out with injury, while Pendlebury’s absence could boost Ned Long’s role and scoring. UPDATE: Eramus and Markov are subs for this game

Team INS OUTS
Dockers Patrick Voss, Neil Erasmus, Cooper Simpson Joshua Draper (Omitted), Hayden Young (Injured), Quinton Narkle (Omitted)
Magpies Jeremy Howe, Edward Allan, Lachlan Sullivan, Oleg Markov Brayden Maynard (Injured), Jordan De Goey (Injured), Brody Mihocek (Injured), Scott Pendlebury (Injured)

GAME 2: St Kilda vs Carlton

Friday, May 9, 7:40pm AEST MCG Melbourne 🌦🌡

Notes: Big in with Mattaes Phillipou, who was a popular mid price option start of the year, and many might jump on him off the bat. Sam Docherty is yet again dropped for the Blues, and popular rookie Matthew Carroll is out. Hugh Boxshall after a solid debut is named again, but double check that he isn’t the sub.

Team INS OUTS
Saints Mattaes Phillipou Tobie Travaglia (Omitted)
Blues Jack Silvagni, Jaxon Binns, Francis Evans Sam Docherty (Omitted), Lachie Fogarty (Injured), Matthew Carroll (Injured)

GAME 3: Melbourne vs Hawthorn

Saturday, May 10, 1:20pm AEST MCG Melbourne 🌦🌡

Notes: Amon is back in, and as reported Oliver is back for the Dees. Rookie option Matthew Jefferson is in, but more of a watchlist as there are better options. Interesting that Viney is being rested ? could be good news for other mids at the Dees.

Team INS OUTS
Demons Jacob van Rooyen, Clayton Oliver, Matthew Jefferson Jack Viney (Managed), Jake Melksham (Injured), Harrison Petty (Injured)
Hawks Karl Amon Tom Barrass (Omitted)

GAME 4: Essendon vs Sydney Swans

Saturday, May 10, 4:15pm AEST Marvel Stadium Melbourne 🌦🌡

Notes: Lots of changes here for the Dons. Debuts to Hayes and Day-Wicks, and El-Hawli is named (beware though ? he’s a popular go-to sub for the Dons). We also see the return of both Caldwell and Shiel, with injuries to Ridley and Harrison Jones.

Team INS OUTS
Bombers Lewis Hayes, Archer Day-Wicks, Jye Caldwell, Dylan Shiel, Saad El-Hawli Jordan Ridley (Injured), Jade Gresham (Omitted), Jye Menzie (Omitted), Elijah Tsatas (Omitted), Harrison Jones (Omitted)
Swans Ben Paton Lewis Melican (Injured)

GAME 5: Gold Coast Suns vs Western Bulldogs

Saturday, May 10, 7:35pm AEST (Local Time 7:05pm) TIO Stadium Darwin Darwin 🌦🌡

Notes: Fiorini in is an interesting one, as he got absolutely absurd numbers in the 2s last week, and will be on my watchlist. Treloar is straight out again, and we lose rookie Busslinger.

Team INS OUTS
Suns Brayden Fiorini, Ben Long, Sam Clohesy, Malcolm Rosas Ethan Read (Omitted), Lachie Weller (Injured), David Swallow (Managed), Connor Budarick (Omitted)
Bulldogs Harvey Gallagher, Caleb Poulter Adam Treloar (Injured), Jedd Busslinger (Omitted)

GAME 6: Port Adelaide vs Adelaide Crows

Saturday, May 10, 8:10pm AEST (Local Time 7:40pm) Adelaide Oval Adelaide 🌦🌡

Notes: Moraes is back for the Power, at the cost of Lorenz who looked an option. Joe Berry has been dropped as well. Interestingly, Sweet has been dropped and replaced by a very cheap Visentini ? if he goes well, could be an interesting option.

Team INS OUTS
Power Dante Visentini, Josh Sinn, Christian Moraes, Jed McEntee, Ryan Burton Will Lorenz (Omitted), Willie Rioli (Injured), Jordon Sweet (Omitted), Logan Evans (Omitted), Joe Berry (Omitted)
Crows Mitchell Hinge Brodie Smith (Injured)
