The Weekend Wash-Up Episode #38 – Brothers of Destruction

It was a great week to have a bad team as plenty of top end premiums let down their coaches horrendously. Tune in for your weekly fantasy therapy session!

Ohhhh yes we’re back. It was a round for bad teams and sh*t coaches, and I can’t wait to talk about it. It’s time for your weekly fantasy therapy session, it’s time for the weekend wash-up!

LEGENDS

Gawn (158) – 35 disposals, 8 marks, 47 hitouts. No dinner plates in sight. What a ridiculous game and an epic captain score, well done Max. As for Matt Flynn…. The reverse ruck tagger. Fill your boots.

Ed Richards (119) – 30 disposals and 2 two goals including a GOTY contender. Bont and Treloar have come back and Ed is still keeping his CBA numbers up with 17 on the weekend. Genuine gun.

Sheezel (134) – Plenty of Sheezey ball and we absolutely love it. 32 of the best, 1 contested, you’d just love to see North get over the line. This is his best role until North can learn to extract some clean footy. More importantly, Sheez is a 120 guy in this role…

Xerri (121) – 25 disposals and only 4 tackles, so these last couple of scores could get even bigger. He is all the way back and I fear a monster is coming as a non-owner.

Macrae (139) – 38 disposals including 25 contested possessions, 8 tackles, and 6 marks. A 66 point last quarter is genuinely insane, and honestly he needed it. Much better.

AFL 2025 Round 08 - St Kilda v Fremantle - A-59128611

English (145) – 27 and 3, what a performance. Tim English now sits at R2 alongside Darcy Cameron and turned out to be a brilliant starting pick.

Bontempelli (126) – 23 and 3, the Bont is just taking the piss in 2nd gear. Huge upgrade target coming off his bye, it’s just a lot of money to pay beforehand.

Kennedy (111) – Treloar may eat into his midfield minutes slightly but what a jet. 19 CBAs is massive and I was completely wrong about him getting moved out of the middle. A gun and a truly epic POD + draft pick.

Dawson (122) – After labelling him a butcher, Daws came out and took the Michael Jamieson on Saturday. He is a walk up 110 guy, but thank god he gets rested at full forward when they’re winning. This could have easily been a 150 as a full time mid.

Rankine (120) – One of the best watches in the AFL, Rankine bursting out of the stoppage is a top 5 player in the competition. 29 touches, 2 goals and just took the game over. Crouch out is also a nice boost for his midfield minutes. Top 6 forward.

AFL 2025 Round 08 - Adelaide v Carlton - A-59150766

Petracca (121) – Oh yeah, Petracca is all the way back. Not only did he have 29 disposals but he laid 8 tackles! Against the eagles! Must have.

Maric (109) – Chefs kiss. He still can’t score in a last quarter but the role is beautiful and these scores will happen. I’m holding him until the byes, he has a brilliant run of fixtures coming up. These $500k guys have been massive.

Cameron (140) – Huge. Equal R2 and a fantastic POD, hopefully the Eagles get him home.

Smith (119) – 34 and a goal, Baz just keeps getting it done it week in week out – averaging 115 and the clear F1. Awesome early draft pick too.

Callaghan (121) – A huge 2nd qtr with 15 disposals and 50 points brought the Giants back into the game. As an owner who held strong through a few quiet weeks, this is vindication and proof that as long as the role and ability is there, these players can come good. Gun.

W.Ashcroft (118) – The brothers of destruction!!! That 41 was a hard watch but if you look past that, he has tonned in his other 5 fixtures and clearly has his legs back under him. CBAs were down but the role around the ball was good, he is an easy hold until his Round 16 bye.

L.Ashcroft (111) – Wow. Rookie roulette was out in full force again this week, and this could be a turning point for a lot of coaches season (for good and bad). Levi was moved onto a wing and had the freedom to just go and rack up uncontested footy. It was beautiful. He could easily average 90+ in this role, and suddenly he has gone from tradable to a potential underpriced premium? Maybe I’m getting too excited, but he was awesome.

AFL 2025 Round 08 - Brisbane v Gold Coast - A-59224019

LOSERS

Kozzy (64) – The bloke was genuinely playing out of the cage, and that’s on me for not fully understanding his role. It’s the fakest 25 CBAs ever. BUT. Richmond and West Coast. How can you not get a touch against those guys? He just has to go, I’m burning trades for fun. Briggs and Kozzy in the middle of upgrade season you can’t make that sort of stuff up. Barely around the ball and can’t even be a target I50. Useless.

TDK (65) –  What on earth was he doing in the 2nd half? 20 points! At least I got the moving out of the TDK business right. 16 hit outs for the game to ROB’s 40. And the Saints are going to pay him millions!? Please. Pack your bags.

Martin (80) – 21 of the worst, where does Nic Martin even play? Genuine no mans land. This was a killer trade a couple of weeks ago, you just pray he comes good.

Daniel (77) – Sheez is turning Caleb back into a small potato. There’s major concerns here, and if our rookies keep performing he might be going sooner than anybody thought. He hasn’t passed 80 for a month.

AFL 2025 Round 08 - Essendon v North Melbourne - A-59119472

FOS (49) – Can spin.

McKercher (48) – Embarrassing. Is it the player, the role, the team? All of the above?! This was a killer draft pick and you can’t see there being room for him down back, so these scores may continue until he finds himself in the VFL.

Brayshaw (78) – After such a good run this was not ideal.. Just the 18 disposals for old lead boots. I don’t know where these performances come from but he is always capable of the ugly.

Serong (65) – The issue with him is he barely scores well when he has 30 disposals, so when he only has 15 disposals you are lucky that he has scored 65 to be honest. Half his score is from tackles. Grimace shake.

Sinclair (61) –  Friday night was just a total sh*tshow wasn’t it. 20 disposals but barely any marks or tackles, he’s going to plummet in price over the next few weeks you would think. Sinc has the nice bye so as soon as he turns this form around, he will be a great trade target. It just sucks if you went early.

Rozee (87) – 29 of the worst, playing left right out. Vol-Kaneo can’t be pleased. He was unsighted down back and eventually moved into the midfield, I don’t know where this is heading. Concerning, but I’m sure he will bounce back soon.

Liberatore (52) – Oh dear. Back to earth with a thud. Had most CBAs for dogs (21) so the role was good, but you have to think Bont, Richards, Kennedy and Treloar all being out there lowers his ceiling. He is at a price where I would cash him in and trade.

Sanders (51) – Cya. This just goes to show how kissed that 130 really was.

AFL 2025 Round 08 - Western Bulldogs v Port Adelaide - A-59143434

Busslinger (8) – Mid-season cash gen… it can become a killer. The rookies are dropping like flies, and this is a classic Bevo manoeuvre.

Walsh (76) – These kind of scores are why we can never trust Walshy, however he is going to get cheap heading into his R12 bye and is an upgrade target to watch in R13.

H.Reid (32) – What can I even say here? Essendon I’m listening to anything you’ve got. Is he even any good? Couldn’t outrun ROB.

Lindsay (33) – *Scratches eyes*… Cheeky little fist pump here. It goes to show how bullsh*t rookie roulette can be, and why we need them off our field even if they are looking solid. That one hurts.

Holmes (79) – Sh*t. Just sh*t. That’s 4 out of 5 under 80, I have no explanation here I’m just going to ride with him. Back me up here Homma.

Bice (44) – First bad one from Bicey, and he’s at a price where it’s hard to give him a free pass. Bombers, Blues, Dees, Crows, Tigers into their bye is a great run for designated kickers, but Sydney just had a win without him touching it. He hates the SCG too, which hurts when you play there every second week. Definitely a trade option if you can get to the top.

Moore (42) – Tactically subbed, need I say anymore? Embarrassing effort and a summary of his 2025 so far. He is cheap, but for a reason.

Anderson (81) – Classic Nando and classic Suns performance this. That 2023 experience was enough to put me off him and it hasn’t come back to bite me yet.

Rowell (63) – Hates soggy grass, which is quite surprising. There’s something in that.

AFL 2025 Round 08 - Brisbane v Gold Coast - A-59219424

THIS GAME SH*TS ME

A lot of the mistakes we make as Fantasy coaches are 50/50 coin tosses that fall the wrong way. See those who traded Levi Ashcroft. That’s one pill to swallow, but there’s nothing worse than realising you have fallen behind the pack, and once that happens there is nothing you can do about it. That moment when you check the top teams and wonder how on earth they afforded that team? I’ll tell you how. Not wasting trades in the middle of upgrade season with blokes like Kieran Briggs and Kozzy Pickett, that’s how. Just a disaster class for me. The most annoying thing is the rest of my team is solid!  It will be close but no cigar for me again this season, I just got lucky this week. This game sh*ts me.

THE OTHER BITS AND PIECES

2327, rank up almost 5k spots to 2.1k. I’d love to say I’m back, but being realistic I got lucky without Lindsay, keeping Ashcroft and seeing Daicos, Rozee and Brayshaw all fail while Finn Callaghan and Will Ashcroft dominate. I guarantee that doesn’t happen next week, but it was nice to see. My trades are all over the shop, but I’m settling on keeping these rookies while they’re scoring well and moving my ‘value picks’ that are scoring like rooks themselves.

FOS -> Grego

Kozzy -> Petracca

As always be sure to listen to the podcast for a full wrap of the round! Laughing at how bad my team is really gets me through the week. Good luck next week legends, let’s make it a high scoring one please!!!

Great read legend,

What’s the better trade.
Lalor and Davidson to Will Ashcroft and Boxshall or Bice and Davidson to Petracca and Boxshall or Newcombe and Boxball for Davidson and Bice.

Always a fun read. Well done on a huge score.

Davidson & Moreas out for me. Would you go Merrett or Tom Green. Merrett is the obvious pick, but I’m drawn to Green despite the obvious flaw of being handball happy. My other mids I already have are Daicos, Brayshaw, Dawson, Dunkley, Rozee, Cerra & a rookie of some sort.

I’d say yes, Collingwood will probably not take either Pendlebury or Sidebottom to Perth so they might be a few extra touches coming his way.

My plans changed about 40 times last week even with Oliver late out. This week is better I’m more confident and banking cash for shez next week. Get rid of TDK and Sanders this week as a fix up week is more positive.
