G’day legends… only six more editions of Calvin’s Captains to go. Here is how it all went down for me last week with my top-10.
No. 1 – Josh Dunkley 106 🤏
No. 2 – Marcus Bontempelli 100 🤏
No. 3 – Sam Walsh 88 ❄️
No. 4 – Lachie Whitfield 132 🔥
No. 5 – Zach Merrett 91 ❄️
No. 6 – Tom Green 123 🔥
No. 7 – Lachie Neale 133 🔥
No. 8 – Jy Caldwell 120 🔥
No. 9 – Tim English 111 ✅
No. 10 – Noah Anderson 112 ✅
A few good ones in there this week and only two ‘failures‘ in Walsh and Merrett. Two names that you’d think would be much better than that. That’s the game though… trying to find the good and dodge the shit ones. Hopefully you hit a ripper last week and this week there are some very good options, especially in the big man department that might be worth a look.
CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS
No. 1 – Whitfield v SUNS
@ ENGIE, SAT 1:45pm
Port Adelaide scored 7×100+ against the Suns last week and Whitfield even had 106 against them earlier this year. But what did the DEFs do against them last week? Well, Houston 122, Aliir Aliir 104 and Farrell 102 were all good as they combined for 31 marks. Whitfield has averaged 112 at home this year and has hit a ton in all of his six games at ENGIE. He’s the No. 2 man on form averaging 133.
No. 2 – English v GEEL
@ GHMBA, SAT 7:30pm
Even though English only managed 93 in this game earlier this year, it was against Stanley who hasn’t played since round 13. In that time, the Cats have opted for Blicavs/De Koning combo and even though they have been getting smashed (Cameron 147, Meek 94, De Koning 131)… Geelong have been winning. English’s form has been great with 111, 131, 96 and 124. Rates very highly!
No. 3 – Butters v RICH
@ Adelaide, SAT 7:30pm
Not only does Butters play the easiest team to score against, he’ll do it with any attention from Richmond’s tagger Jack Graham who wasn’t named when teams dropped on Thursday night. Butters has been in hot form scoring 133 and 136… and is now a serious captain option.
No. 4 – Gulden v BRIS
@ GABBA, SUN 1:10pm
This guy has scored 150-plus in three of his last six games averaging 126. He scores well outside of the SCG where he has averaged 114 in away games this year so going to the GABBA shouldn’t be a problem. Gulden had 108 against the Lions last year but the Lions (at the GABBA) are tough. The match up is average, but his ability to hit 150 isn’t.
No. 5 – Nankervis v PTA
@ Adelaide, SAT 7:30pm
Recent rucks to battle Sweet have gone bananas… Moyle 85, English 131, Marshall 119 and McInerney 125 highlighting my point. Nank is coming off scores of 117, 150 and 107 and loves these match ups where he can go full big man brut. Expect another thumper from him this week.
ALSO CONSIDER…
Josh Dunkley v Sydney – Dunkley is still the No. 1 man in the game based on form averaging 135 in his last three games and has scored 106, 140, 158 and 118 in his last four. He averages 117 at the GABBA this year and there is no reason why he won’t be wicked again.
Marcus Bontempelli v Geelong – 100, 100, 126 and 142 are Bont’s latest efforts which are pretty solid. He scored 149 in this game earlier this year and wasn’t tagged. Geelong have options when it comes to Bont, but lately they haven’t really been using any of their three taggers they have on hand.
FYI – Caldwell was at No.4 until this little injury concern. Still can be a VC but it’s probably not worth the risk and just use it somewhere else.
Wasn’t the Caldwell injury stuff just fake news..?
As someone who lives in Adelaide pretty sure the James Taylor at 7 News twitter account (that dropped the Caldwell news) is just a LARP account
Is Dowling’s 75 enough to loop or should I stick with Mannagh?
loop
Is Xerri worth a captain shot with DeKoning as Carltons solo ruck?
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Marshall as a captain option this week against Williams for the eagles.
Williams hasn’t been giving up that much points to opposition rucks. Doubt marshall will go huge.
Had Rozee VC, looking to roll the dice on C.
Walsh an option?
My man Errrrrollll, just a bit of question mark for me against Brisbane?
Dunks….I don’t like Captaining against good teams, but he has the ability to fill every stat line, so even if he doesn’t smash it, still has an acceptable floor?
Thoughts?
Who do I choose, Heeney or Patrick Cripps?
Neither lol. If you have gulden or xerri they are much better options
Nank injured as my vc. Not sure who to C out of Gulden, Dunkley or Xerri?
