AFL Teams 2016: Round 17

No Late changes Dockers vs Cats. Lockout 8:10pm.

5:30pm Friday 15/07/2016

Sunday extended bench selections are in! The big early news of course is Rory Laird has been withdrawn from the crows lineup, and Paul Seedsman is into the 22. Harrison Himmelberg (Fwd. $188,000 AF $157,300 DT) to debut for GWS, and we see rookie Sam J. Reid (Mid/Fwd) return. Ben Keays (Mid) and Josh Wagner (Def) didnt make the cut.

6:30pm Thursday 14/07/2016

Remaining weekend teamsheets are in. (Sorry about delay, We had a blackout up in the bush :P). Michael Barlow (Mid/Fwd) is a confirmed in. Josh Cowan (Def $130,000 AF $161,700 DT) finally gets a run for the cats, but we see Jimmy Bartel managed, and expect to see more of this for cats players coming into finals. A few PODs are back with Daniel Wells (Fwd/Mid), Jarrad Waite (Fwd), Matthew Leuenberger (Ruck/Fwd) and that hype player from port Sam Gray (Mid/Fwd).
Both Brad Ebert & Tom Liberatore are out with a painfully sounding bruised Lung. Rookie priced players Reece Conca (Fwd/Mid), Sam Michael (Ruck), Darcy Tucker (Def) are omitted.

6:30pm Wednesday 13/07/2016

Yet another partial lockout week, with Swans vs Hawks this Thursday, and a sneak peak early teams lineup tonight~6:30pm. As always make sure you have any trades involving hawks or swans teams done, and setup that VC loophole while you are at it.
Some grabbed Rookie James Rose (Fwd) off a solid debut. Well, hes out. Interesting in for Hawks is Brendan Whitecross (Def/Fwd $232,000 AF $260,900 RDT ) who has been struggling to get into the team for some time now, but has a good DT history. Ben McGlynn is in a similar boat back for the Swans but with a heftier price tag. Both are a tad to risky for my liking, but this game can be about risk/reward.
The big news clearly during the week is yet again Gary Ablett’s season is over, but you would have to be living under a rock to have missed that one.
We will see David Zaharakis back from report, and strong indication that Michael Barlow will actually play this week (They tricked us last week).

aliir
He looked abit lost in his Debut, but watching swans play last week I thought Aliir Alirr ($153,000 AF $154,400 DT) did some great things and held his own, increasing his Job security, and he has held his spot for the first time consecutively because of this. I don’t expect big numbers from the key position defender, but with lack of rookies around he is someone you could sneak in your defense bench. The kids already amassing a bit of a cult following so watch this space.

Shags’ Watchlist

cowan
Great to see a local lad from my hood of Daylesford Josh Cowan (Def $130,000 AF $161,700 DT) get a game back after a horrific injury last year. Hes a hard at it mid sized defender, and has the potential to score well, if he can keep a spot in the team and avoid injury. Another downgrade option in defence. Watch and wait one week to be safe.

cast
Dimma is giving some youngsters a good run for the tiges, and we had a good look at some last week. Maybe the most popular downgrade option this week is Jason Castagna (Def. $177,000 AF $171,000 DT) coming off a solid 94. Beware though, everyone at Tigers seemed to have scored well last week.

Shags’ Watchlist

sgray
Why oh why you ask am I putting a watchlist on Sam Gray (Fwd/Mid $420,000 AF $437,200 DT) who are on manys never again list after not living up to potential, and getting dumped! Well, he was a hype player for a reason, he has the talent to score well, and now he is cheap. Who knows maybe he has reinvented himself with his time in the wilderness a bit like Barlow did for Freo.

touk
Well I raved all preseason about Touk Miller (Mid/Fwd $356,000 AF $370,500 DT) who smashed out a 135, and with the suns midfield obliterated, you would think he’d get a good crack in the mids. Hes cheap and has a super low BE, for those wanting to take a punt.

sloane
Rory Sloane (Mid $589,000 AF $628,500 DT) has been playing so well recently that he has jumped into Brownlow contention. Coming off a 5 round average of 126.8 and crows supposedly having a soft run home, hes a popular trade in for an injured Gaz.

Shags’ Watchlist

yeo
With a few premo defenders biting the dust, many will be looking to cover holes in our defences. Elliot Yeo (Def/Mid $431,000 AF be 71 $ 460,100 be 84) is quite far down the list on must have defenders, but he is very cheap and hes been pretty good in his last few games with a 3 game average of 96.3 and a lot of his low scores this year are due to injury.

Yeah, I am gunna do it. one of those never again players. A player who hasnt even been able to get a game for the dees. But Veteran Jack Grimes (Def $454,000 AF $ 452,200 DT) smashing out a 140 last week cannot be ignored. True, many dees players scored well last week, but if he scores huge again this week people will take notice.

Him
Hes a debut in round 17, Harrison Himmelberg (Fwd. $188,000 AF $157,300 DT) only debut we have this week. An Academy gruaduate from the Riverina is making his debut against Brissy, so he may get a good score. Job security is of course, shaky.

A windy cold day in 2015, I was bored, sick with the flu, and decided to start a blog about Teamsheets. I was immediately recruited by Warnie and somehow am now a DTTALK author. NOTE; Im Back in 2022! woooo Twitter @shagbags2023 ~REMEMBER: Friends don't let friends DT TEAMS become ghost ships.
