Nat Fyfe MID $581K
The 2015 Brownlow Medallist was outstanding in the early part of the 2015 season, he averaged 111.5pts from his first 12 games with 10 exceeding 100pts or more. Fyfe did struggle to convert his 100pt games in to 120pts games with only 1 of 13 being successful, looking back at 2014 he had a similar conversion rate with only 2 of 11 100pt games exceeding 120pts or more. Fyfe will likely be a popular choice for many AFL Fantasy coaches to kick start 2016, he should average over a 100pt average for the season given a healthy status. There are current injury concerns for Fyfe with a back complaint, all injury lists and news should be monitored in the coming weeks and should be factored in to your decision whether or not to select him.
Lachie Neale MID $563K
Neale was one of the quite achievers in AFL Fantasy last season, it was the first time he averaged over 100pts in his short 4 year career. Neale threw up some big numbers in 2015 with 12 of his 22 games exceeding 100pts or more 7 of which exceeded 120pts or more, his top 5 career scores all came in the 2015 season. Neale had a season high 162pts against West Coast in Round 3 and followed that up with 151pts a few weeks later against Nth Melbourne in Round 8, interestingly his top 4 scores all were produced at Domain Stadium which could provide you with a unique Captain option in 2016 if you are running with Neale for the entire season. Neale is a safe premium option and could be a very good play again in 2016, he will achieve a minimum 100pt average with a 110pt average not out of the question.
David Mundy MID 584K
Mundy had a career high 105.6pts average in 2015, it was the first time he cracked the 100pt average barrier in a single season. Mundy exceeded 100pts or more in 14 of 21 games with 5 exceeding 120pts or more, he had a career high 151pts against Geelong at Simonds Stadium in Round 2. Mundy will be one of the tougher decisions to make considering his premium starting price, he should provide a consistent platform to build your team around in 2016 and could be a very good point of difference. Mundy’s 1st and 2nd half 2015 season splits provide some reassurances in his consistency, he averaged 105.7pts from his first 11 games and 105.4pts from his final 11 games of the 2015 season.
Harley Bennell FWD/MID $509K
It would be an understatement to say Bennell has had a troublesome start to his career, but given the general opinion of most his AFL Fantasy relevance could be underestimated. Bennell did average a career high 92.0pts in 2015, but interestingly 5 of his 15 games exceeded 100pts or more with 3 (60%) going over 120pts or more. The negative for Bennell is that he has played 15 games in each of his last 3 years, but given a new more professional environment he could be one of the big improvers, at least from the outside looking in we as Fantasy coaches should know where he stands at the Dockers considering what happened to Colin Sylvia (Not professional, didn’t play). Bennell has been held back in the pre-season and injury lists/news should be monitored, if all is good news going in to Round 1 then he is a must consider and could be a great point of difference against your opponents.
Michael Barlow FWD/MID 515K
Barlow will be one of the more popular selections by AFL Fantasy coaches at the beginning of the season, given his status as a MID/FWD and his ability to score heavy he could be the highest owned player at Round 1. Barlow had a solid 2015 but regressed from a 110.7 average in 2014 to 92.0 last season, he had 11 scores over 100pts playing a full 22 Home & Away games with 3 exceeding 120pts or more. Barlow is quite durable missing only 6 games in his last 4 years (5 missed games were in 2014), another healthy year and he should give your team a good return on investment. Just a few concerns for Barlow regarding his playing status, he does lack pace so he could spend more time forward but if he has to battle against the likes of a fit speedy Bennell for game time on the ball then there could be some concerns. Barlow has a great ability to find the ball, given a healthy year he should return a mid 90’s and above average in 2016.
