Max Gawn RUCK $509K

Probably one of the most intriguing AFL Fantasy options for Melbourne in 2016 will be Gawn, the big Ruckman is entering his 5th year and primed for another surge in points. In 2015 Gawn had a mini breakout year averaging 91.9pts, this represented a 33.6pt increase compared to his 2014 season. Gawn has never played over 13 games in his short career at Melbourne, but Ruckman do take time to develop and it is likely he will be the No.1 option to begin the 2016 season.  Gawn hit 100pts or more in 4 games last season 3 of which exceeded 120pts or more, make sure you keep a keen eye on him and his competition for the No.1 Ruck spot in the pre-season.

Jack Grimes DEF $432K

Sometimes the back end of a season can tell a story of what is to come for certain players & teams, Grimes could be that diamond in the rough AFL Fantasy coaches are searching for to get a jump start on the field in the early part of 2016. Grimes averaged 105.7pts in his final 3 games of the 2015 Home & Away season, in an 8 year career that seems as though injury has restricted his ability to shine in Fantasy 2016 could be a long awaited break-out year. Back in 2012 Grimes averaged 92.0pts playing 21 games, 7 of those games exceeded 100pts or more but since then he has only averaged 15.0 games in his last 3 years. Obviously the key for element for Fantasy coaches to consider Grimes will be a full pre-season, if there is no mention of him on any injury list over the summer then he has to be considered given his status.

Tom McDonald DEF $446K

Mc Donald has the potential to be a good AFL Fantasy option for many coaches but 6 games fewer than 60pts in 2015 has to alarm just a few, but he also averaged 99.5pts from his final 4 games of the season to round off at an 80.5 average for the year. Mc Donald appears to be a durable option entering his 6th AFL season, he has played an average of 20 games in his last 4 seasons for Melbourne. 2015 Represented a 21.2pt increase from his previous year which could be a good sign of better things to come at the Demons for him, he has to be on your watch list over the pre-season.

Bernie Vince MID $512K

Melbourne players only hit 100pts or more 44 times in the 2015 Home & Away season, Vince had the equal most  (Tied with Nathan Jones) finishing with 8 100pt games all of which came in his final 15 games of 2015. Melbourne will definitely have more options in the midfield next season with plenty of the younger guys to get a fair share of opportunities, this could be a positive for Vince especially considering his nearly 100pt average in those final 15 games of 2015. Vince won’t be amongst your first premiums selected, but he could be a great point of difference with a low ownership rate expected.

BV4

Jack Viney MID $462K

If you are looking at player career trends heading in the right direction entering their 4th season then it is Viney that fits in to this criteria, he averaged 83.6pts in his 3rd year at the Demons in 2015 an increase of 8.6pts compared to 2014 and 14.5pt increase compared to 2013. The back end of 2015 increases the interest even further when he averaged 98.8pts from his final 5 games, with the midfield growing in depth for Melbourne some players are going to take advantage of lesser attention from their opposition and Viney could be that player. Melbourne were ranked 16th for AFL Fantasy team points in 2015 and 17th in 2014, but this was designed in an attempt to reduce opposition scoring. If the Demons can find a better balance of game style in 2016 then this is likely to increase the amount of AFL Fantasy points the team scores, one of the beneficiaries of a balanced game style is likely to be Viney who could average over 90pts in 2016.
