Andrejs Everitt: Deck of Dream Team 2011

Hype is one thing, backing it up is another and unfortunately, Everitt has done very little of the latter. Can a move to the Swans, who are traditionally friendly to recycled players be the break he needs become a viable DT option?

Name: Andrejs Everit
Club: Sydney
Position: Back
Bye Rounds: 5 & 19
2010 Average: 67.8
2010 Games Played: 12
Predicted Average: 82

Why should I pick him? There has always been positive hype around Everitt, and this was never more evident than this off-season where the Bulldogs were desperate to keep him, and the Swans and Blues wanted to recruit him. The Swans have a really good record of increasing the DT average of a recycled player so it could be the break that Andrejs needs to be a viable fantasy option. A recent look at instant improvements in players are MartyMatter who’s averaged increased by 20 points in his first year with the Swans and Shane Mumford increased his average by over 24 points per match. In his last four matches of the year with the Dogs, Everitt averaged 72, with two promising scores over 80. With that form and increased opportunity, his stocks will surely rise.

Why shouldn’t I pick him?Hype is one thing, backing it up is another and unfortunately, Everitt has done very little of the latter. In his first four years in the AFL he has never played over 12 games due to injury and poor form, which is a worry on both accounts. It is a concern that the role of the running half backs are already cemented at the swans which could mean a deep defensive role so pre season watch is vital.

Deck of DT Rating.Queen- Andrejs will at some stage, hold his own in the DT back-line. It is his fourth year in the system and we know that he will receive far greater opportunities this year. I think it is a sure thing that his prices and average will rise, but enough to satisfy coaches?….. I’m not sure. If his role looks to be on a wing/ flank with a green light to chase the ball, I would strongly consider.
