Why should I pick him?
Isaac Cumming was shafted by the Giants and now finds himself at the Crows who have welcomed him with open arms.
Letβs wind back the clock to 2022 when Cumming was one of the elite Fantasy defenders in the game averaging 90.6 roaming across half-back at GWS. In that year, he took a team-high 129 kick-ins and was their go-to option (Whitfield had 18 in 2022, last year Whitfield had 159).
But then things changed and as I said⦠he got shafted and only played four games last year at the top level. Now, he was injured at times and he did spend some time in the VFL and from his four games and two final games⦠he took just one kick-in.
He got injured in round 19 (33pts from 26& TOG) and didnβt return until the AFL Finals Series where he scored 61 and 82.
Cumming was pick No. 20 in the 2016 Draft and is discounted this season. This discount now places him at an average of 56. Did you hear that? I said… “56”.
Even though his role at the Crows is still up in the airβ¦. At this price, Cumming is a low-risk play. I also believe that he will be required to be on kick-in duties, floating across half-back and up on the wing.
For the Crows last year on kick-in duties were β¦ Keane (he took 83) and Hinge (73) and Worrell (37) were the main guysβ¦ and letβs face itβ¦ the Crows donβt really want those blokes with this responsibility. Enter Isaac Cumming and let me remind you that the Crows DO NOT have an early bye… perfect! They even have their mid-season bye in round 15, this is the back end of the byes and if Isaac lasts that long in your team, it could be the perfect time to offload.
Another point is… he could and most likely will pick up DEF status along the journey as well.
Cumming could be this yearβs Riley Bonner 2.0. Even though he is MID only, the upside is huge for a guy who I see averaging in the mid-80βs at a minimum. Even if he only gets to the Mid-70’s… there’s 20-points upside.
Why shouldn’t I pick him?
“Heβs MID onlyβ¦. Heβll clog up a midfield spot”… But is that a bad thing?
In the past weβd say βyesββ¦ leave the MID position for MIDs as they have the most growth in the Fantasy game. But as we have seen over the last few years, points can be scored everywhere.
Adam Treloar is the highest averaging MID as it currently stands. In front of him we have three rucks and three defenders. So as far as Iβm concerned, it doesnβt really matter that he βclogs upβ a MID spot, especially early on in the season.
The other red flag with Cumming is injuries. Calf, quad and hamstring were all issues in 2024. To be honest, this is a big concern. Forget that he clogs up a MID position but the dude is injured more often than not.

QUEENΒ
Cumming is in my team and for now I have no intentions on moving him. I started Bonner in 2024 and see this as a similar play from the very start. Cash generation will be huge to start with and at the end of the day we need to remind ourselves that Cumming in priced at an average of just 56. Seriouslyβ¦ 56. We can’t predict injuries… we play the cards we are dealt and at this stage, he’s a lock for me.
