Thoughts on both structure and team pre practice games?

DEF: Doc, Daicos, Yeo, Constable, Ginbey, Weddle (Wilmot, Chesser)
MID: Steele, Dunks, Merrett, Titch, Green, Worpel, Ashcroft, Phillips (Mackenzie, Richards)
RUCK: Marshall, Cameron (Edwards)
FWD: Coniglio, Taranto, Rozee, Mclean, Sheezel, Phillopou (Pedlar, Greene)
UTIL: Tsitas

Only 7k in the back.
Concern is backline being a little weak. Other option being downgrading a fwd and playing another mid rook (move dunks) and upgrading to another premo defender.

You have a bench almost entirely made up of basement rooks. Pedlar and Richards are the only 2 over $200k, and they are $213k and $206k each. Have a a plan for who gets cut from the line-up so you can upgrade to playing rooks on the bench, because you cannot count on this many basement rooks playing. I hope I am wrong, and I have a team in a similar position, ready to go if so many do get selected, but I am also ready if they don’t. In saying that, a $200k option like Moyle in the RUC is OK, because he could play if Witts gets hurt; my choice is Ramsden because he has DPP and the Hawks play on the final day of the round in 4 of the first 5 rounds. Not likely that a rookie ruck actually gets a run this year.

Have had a play and come up with a few pods thoughts?

DEF – Brayshaw, daicos, redman, yeo, constable, ginbey (chesser, wilmot)
MID – Steele, jelly, Bont, Josh ward, sheed, Ashcroft, phillipou, Phillips (tsitas, drury)
RUC- Marshall, Cameron ( Edwards)
FWD – dunks, cogs, Taranto, Tom Powell, McLean, sheazel ( pedlar, Greene)
UTL – 200k starter

0k in the bank!!!

Rick line really is a headache this season. Pretty much every R1 has a question mark over their heads with role sharing, R2 much the same, but also job security questions, and bench player is. Really do think we need a comprehensive article/pod on the rucks, and not just the top 10 or so.

Had a bit of a reshuffle this week with structure. Hunter Clark, Touk out. Meek and a top secret mid price mid currently on the outer and not in the squad.

Bit of a minor restructure up forward, as really not happy with most of the premiums, so have had to cull value elsewhere to make things work.

Wasonvinced to look into Rozee after one of the recent podcast’s, had previously not looked into him, or wanted to, but again the forward options aren’t the best. Numbers appear to stack up for picking him when considering his start last year, but that’s also the thing that’s spooking me.

Cunnington, looks like value at 75, but is it enough? New coach could shake things up for the worse,.up and coming mids, and he isn’t getting any younger. Not entirely sure he’s a 95 as suggested, but that could be me being gun-shy. At that price I’m not entirely sure that 85 is enough to warrant selection, when I could pay for someone at at 3-400k, take the 65 points and out the extra 3-400k into a legit keeper.

Dunkley, kind of left with no choice but to select him, even though I’m not stoked about walking in blind with regards to his scoring with a new team.

Yep agree with the Rucks. I need to see something in the Sims/prackies in the ruck line before I can close out the rest of my structure. Usually I’m getting very close to a final side pending named rooks by now, but this year not so much – struggling to find value in the line

I like English and Marshall.

In real terms Gawn and Grundy are the best 2 rucks in the comp at the moment with Noc Nat 3rd and best if he could actually play more than 50% game time.

Fantasy wise Marshall is also a top ruck.

English is an actual footy star, if he can get his body big and strong enough he’ll be an all time great, kid has skills.

Gawn and Grundy could help make the Dees an even more dominant team but can’t possibly be good for each other’s fantasy scoring.

That leaves English as top ruck if he’s fit and Marshall as next cab off if solo.

I just don’t see another option that comes close.

Daicos4Brownlow

Same. There are a few niggling doubts over both English and Marshall, but they should be answered in the praccy games. Hopefully English plays, as his fitness is the key concern. All the other Saints’ fitness is the concern for Marshall; we just need to know he will play ruck and not forward, then he is a lock. At present, I have English and Marshall, but I would like to see confirmation in the next couple of weeks.

Agree that Gawn and Grundy would be everybody’s choice if they were in separate teams. NicNat will only be allowed 50% game time, or he will be out injured immediately; he will be managed for the rest of his career.

Surely, there cannot be the same ruck carnage as last year. I just want to pick English and Marshall, and the only thinking about them for the rest of the year I want is whether I select one of them as C or VC.

Baldrick's boys
Baldrick's boys

I can’t bring myself to spend all that $s on English & Marshall – I feel like my fantasy year needs starting value picks & then continual ruck carnage to keep me on my toes 😆

Dulcify

With all the uncertainty surrounding the rucks, I am considering going to plan ‘E’. Lycett and Meek. These two will cost a touch over $600K less than English and Marshall, IF these two can score 75 each 🤞 and English and Marshall score 105 each then we lose 60 points. These points can be returned with the upgrades we make to our team with the money saved.

Once the season starts to take shape and it becomes apparent who the must have rucks are we can then make the necessary changes. Anyway, just some food for thought.

after plugging Marshall at R1 very early, i filled out the rest my time with an eye to get Cameron in at R2, but i have fallen a few K short & currently have Lycett, although i don’t i’m not very comfortable with that..

looking at the RD1 battles makes it even worse for those i can currently afford..

– Lycett vs Big O would probably only get 65-70..
– Stanley vs Cameron/Cox is probably maxxing out at 60 tbh..
– Hickey vs Witts, would barely top at 65..
– Pitt/TDK vs Nank, might not even crack 60..
– Dons vs Hawks is anyone guess..

at this rate, i’ll probably just plug in whoever ends up being the preferred RUC at Hawks or Draper if he’s the only ruckman they select..

FML..

Hey there kitty, my thoughts RE rucks is per my response to Baldrick’s response to you, Rozee is a gun, can’t stand him but have to respect his game plus he looks like a man this season instead of a pretty boy, I reckon he could tear it up.

Agree about Cunnington, he’s a low 90s guy at his peak, he’s not at his peak anymore, also more a SC guy, great real world player though.

Don’t overthink Dunks, he won’t have any problems, had a different role all the time at the dogs, expect he may have a career year and become pure mid from here, he’s a fantasy gift as a fwd.

Stay adorable 🦑

Good evening everyone.
First time player and was looking for some feedback after listening to the podcasts and buying the record.

DEF: Docherty, Young, Daicos, Yeo, Ginbey, Weddle (Chesser, Wilmot).
MID: Steele (C), Mitchell, Taranto, Green, Sheed, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillips (Tsitas, Johnson).
RUC: English, Marshall (Ryan).
FWD: Dunkley (VC), Coniglio, Rozee, McLean, Sheezel, Phillipou (Van Rooyen, Edwards).
UTL: Gould.

Feel pretty good about my team with two exceptions:
1. Maybe a restructure in Rucks if we can find a solid second option to start.
2. Rooks that play Round 1 will obviously dictate how we structure and bench.

Thanks again. Seems like a good community.

Possibly needs a rejig in a few areas. You’re hoping that 6 basement rookies will be available come round one. Maybe sell Young or Daicos and downgrade to a mid price and use cash to buy a stronger bench.

Solid starting point. Have a plan in place for less basement rooks being named, so you will have as few red dots as possible in round 1. RUC is the exception, as it is unlikely a rookie RUC will get a run but consider someone like Ramsden who has DPP and plays late in the round so you may get to use the loophole.

Watch out if Finn Maginness continues to play as a tagger. His opponents’ disposals last season from Rnd 17:

Jordan Dawson – 9
Tim Kelly – 9
Jy Simpkin – 6
Jack Sinclair – 7
Touk Miller – 14
Shai Bolton – 6
Bailey Smith – 13

Parish/Merrett in Rnd 1.

Fortunately I’m not far enough along in my recovery to captain Merrett then.

Bazlenka, Macrae then Bont for DT, but Bont, Baz then Macrae as best players..
Baz gets a free reign, never gets a tag, can play inside, outside and kick goals..
Macrae, you never know with Bevo, if he’s not in the guts, he’s not cracking 100..
Bont, is often the plug, so will have games he needs to play forward, on the wing, in the guts, across half back etc, so week to week i’m not sold for points, although should win the Brownlow imho..

Main concern is not starting Titch & Taranto, but my gut doesn’t trust either just yet. My Docker bias skews some picks like Young & Serong, but I missed Brayshaw last pre season thinking I was too biased. It is just a game! Definitely not. There are a lot of potentially relevant Weagles as they cannot go as bad as they did last year. As long as you don’t have that many by the time the Bye rounds hit, because they have the same bye round as the Hawks, and you probably have a few of them as well. However, they are cash cows, not keepers, so you will move them on once they top out.

If you put a little effort in, you could have made this more difficult to read. It is best to put players in order from top to bottom price in their positions.

Anyways, you have a lot of PODs, which is very risky; they may all fire and you will be a mile ahead of everyone, but if they don’t, you will have a lot of catch up to play. Gawn/Draper is an unusual RUC line this year – both are risks; it is still unknown how Gawn’s scoring will pan out while working with Grundy. I have not seen Howe or McCreery in many teams; I am a Pie supporter, and both are great for us (especially Howe), but I don’t think they are Fantasy relevant. Same-same for De Goey. Cameron is OK, but there is risk there because of Fly’s increased use of Cox to pinch hit in the ruck. Daicos is definitely relevant. The Pies are not playing their Fantasy-friendly style anymore. Best to put club allegiance to the side for Fantasy. God forbid, I even have a handful of Weagles in my team.

Probably Sheil, he’s the most important to tag normally v the bombers, then Merrett (good luck) then Parish would be my guess.

Any comments or discussion on my final draft of my team in lead up to Practice Matches would be extremely welcomed and appreciated

Midfielder: J.Steele, D.Parish, T.Mitchell, L.Whitfield, T.Green, D.Sheed, W.Ashcroft, W.Phillips (C.Mackenzie, N.Long)

Trying to decide between Bontempelli or Parish for M2, is a tough one.

I think it’s because they are not very good fantasy players. Unless injured, he will not be leaving my teams.

Or because of what he was like last year and that he was rotating fwd in their intraclub. Obviously a gun but that’s a fair concern.

intraclub had him not in the guts.. Macrae is one of the best, like Mitchell and Swanny, but if the CBAs aren’t there, he struggles to hit triple digits..

Yeah I worry that he’s 50/50 out on the wing /sulking – so need to eyeball him in a practice game before can put in
