Hawthorn AFL Fantasy preview 2023 – Ep. 551

PODCAST: Roy, Calvin and Warnie discuss the Hawks.

The Hawks could be wooden spooners due to their rebuild which is an old-school one. There are spots up for grabs which could be great for cash cows and those with increased opportunity. James Worpel offers plenty of value as do some of his fellow midfielders. Look for James Sicily to be around the top defenders as the ball will be back there a bit while Dylan Moore could be a top six forward.

Warpedo is always destined for a big year, then nothing. Will he finally produce the goods?

Thoughts on Meek chance to be no 1 ruck? Had great year in reserves. Maybe R2?

His AFL Fantasy scoring is rather….Meek.

I have him as tentative r2, but could be Preuss 2.0 minus the ceiling!

Is that his reserves numbers? Or his AFL fantasy?

Not bad WAFL number thou for someone priced around 52.

        95, 83, 110, 126, 120, 58, 121, 120, 108, 48, 125, 123, 135, 110 and 84.

Take the “Calvin scores out” (58/48) he’s going at 112 :)

Probably need him to go 80-85+ to be a good selection. Reckon he’s one you can sit on for a week or 2 and if he looks good then jump on

Yeah atm I have English and Marshall but looking for extra cash

He has averaged 60.7 in his limited time in the six matches he played last year, but is priced at 53.4. He averaged 41.2 in his nine games in 2021. He was third banana at Freo, but should be number one ruck at the Hawks, so he won’t go any worse than the 60.7, which is more than the 53.4 he is priced at. It remains to be seen if he will solo ruck – probably wishful thinking.

He is a risk, because his AFL scoring is unproven. However, he scored well in the WAFL. I believe there is a lot of upside. Fantasy rucks used to be quite predictable, but last years chaos, and Grundy’s move to the Dees has made it much less predictable. Will Witts continue to rise? Will Grundy and Gawn hold their scoring capability whilst together? Will Marshall be solo ruck? I think most, like me, will have English at R1, but R2 will be very mixed. Meek will save cash, he won’t decrease in value and he MAY have a breakout year. I believe he is worth keeping a very close eye on in the preseason. If he is solo rucking, he is my R2.

That said, I have switched a couple of times already, but Meek’s price is sooo tempting.

I’ve budgeted for 3 mid pricers this year. Tucker, Worpel and Meek are in the mix at this early stage. Yeo and TThomas are also in the preseason training group.

With CBA’s in mind who will improve their score the most:
    Josh Ward @ $634,000?
    or
    Conor Nash @ $549,000?

I’m backing ward and Newcombe to improve mostly. Nash is home sick won’t last the season.
