A coaching change at the end of 2019 will likely bring about a change in game style at Adelaide this season, in the last year under Don Pyke the Crows averaged 393.2 Disposals (Rank 4) recording 400 Disposals or more in 9 games (Rank 3).

A strategic plan in the off-season to move on ageing players should pave the way for opportunities in the younger core group of players at the Crows, they should be a high priority on teams to watch over the pre-season.

2020 Potential Targets:

Reilly O’Brien RUCK $709K

An early season injury to Sam Jacobs in 2019 provided a crucial opportunity for O’Brien as solo Ruck for the Crows, by the end of the season O’Brien claimed the No.1 Ruck role with Jacobs departing.

O’Brien averaged 95.5pts from 18 games last season, he scored 100pts or more in 44.4% of games recording a high score of 146pts against Richmond in Round 13.

The starting salary for O’Brien will likely deter a few at Round 1, for those looking to shy away from a Grundy/Gawn combo to begin the season O’Brien may be a decent enough option.

Shane McAdam FWD $170K

McAdam was high on the radar for many last season, a lack of opportunity & injury resulted in no senior games.

With the departure of small forward Eddie Betts the opportunity is certainly available in 2020, McAdam averaged 10.7 Disposals, 7.3 Marks, 1.7 Tackles & 2.0 Goals in 3 SANFL Finals in 2019.

McAdam is certainly worth a spot on your watch-list over summer, he will provide value at minimum cost.

Patrick Wilson MID $328K

A new coach may open the door of opportunity for Wilson in 2020, after averaging 25.0 Disposals, 7.3 Marks & 5.7 Tackles in 3 SANFL Finals last season he may be given more of a chance this season.

Wilson has played only 2 games at AFL level averaging 55.0pts, a prime midfield role would see an increase in that average but that may difficult to infiltrate a pretty solid core group at the Crows.

If the opportunity is available for Wilson at Round 1 he is worth considering especially if the midfield usage is expected to be available.
