      Will do x
first off, great name, im McLovin it!

DEF: Lloyd i am unsure on picking as he does not score that well with McVeigh also in the swans team, which was proven when McVeigh came back last year from injury. his scoring plummeted. Hanley is a good POD as he may push onto the wing for midfield time as Gaz is gone, if he does, he can score 90, if he doesnt, hell score close to 75 like last year. I hate O’shea. Scored terribly in the last two seasons he played at port, averaging in the 50’s. I see him doing the same at carlton and id rather just field a 170k player.

MID: Straight off the bat, im steering away from all geelong premo mids as im not sure how they;; score with now gaz into the mix. Yes, i know, danger is a gun, but im not sure yet if hell be hampered with the inclusion of ablett or not. Rocky im not sure on either, i understand that hes a pig and all that and can go 180+, but at a new club and been said that hell be playing more forward, im going away from him until hes proven more forward time doesnt mean anything to him and scoring 120’s.

RUC: Watch Nic Nat, hearing that he is still not training that well and taking longer than expected, made me jump off him.

FWD: Menegola. No. Even with Scotty selwood out, hes not gonna score as well as he did last year with gaz now and all upcoming midfielders such as kelly for example. Rest looks G

Like the team overall, few players i personally steer away from but good structure and PODS.

ily2. titch i like as i feel safe within him. like 20/22 games or something were 100+ and no big inclusions, not effective with the ball, he just accumulates. much more effective players than him who are worth tagging.

Nah don’t change Danger mate, the geelong mids will feed off each other and if he rests forward at all he will kick bags and possibly increase his output that way. He’s an absolute lock.

Disagree lochie, you will find ownership of menegola rise now. Probably a top pick in your team mate. He was first locked in my team and probably a safe captain option. Injuries to Selwood and co. And Duncan playing half back has increased mid time for menegola , keeping in mind rotating with danger and Ablett but I can’t see menegola spending much time forward as Geelong stars age. So for me menegola 115+ this year and a safe lock

Wait and see how he looks in JLT tbh. He’s supposed to be feeling good and training well so that’s a good sign. We know he’s capable of 80, and tbh if his body holds up, and with him probably getting decent mid time he potentially could push 85 IMO.

Now for Rayner, I haven’t watched any of his highlights or anything so i’m not sure. Depends where he plays too, could see him going between 50-70.

I know it’s pretty unconventional to be so weak in the backs, but I just keep coming back to the fact that I don’t really like any of the premo defenders except Laird. I also think there are a bunch of $170k rooks in defence that are reasonable chances to play and score ok, including:
Tom Doedee – perfect Lever replacement
Isaac Cumming- high draft pick, dominated NEAFL, perfect replacement for Wilson/Williams
David Mirra- mature age, good leadership, already knows Hawks structures
Sam Murray- dominated NEAFL, good accumulator with speed, which the pies desperately need off half back
Alex Morgan- sought a trade for more opportunities, Roos perfectly placed to give him that
Hugh Goddard- very talented backman who should be in best 22 if his body is right

    Have I gone completely mad?

But seriously, how good is that midfield!

    • Avatar

Midfield is good, but you are paying max for all of them.

I don’t think Gaj will average his highest, JOM is a big risk, Nic Nat is not the lock everyone thought.

I think a good principle is if you are going to load up in one area, you want those in other areas to outperform their price – I would have concerns about your Fwd line in particular based on that.

Good structure dude and youre in the right lace to get a feel for it. Just remember if you do a bit of research on a bloke and like him in your team but then people say things go back to your research and check it if still happy go with your gut.

so ignoring bench first number is premo then mid priced player then rookie

Def – 2/1/3 all solid picks Burton is your smokey could hit or miss again go back to your research back in why you picked him, cant see him losing money.

Mid – 5/0/3 looks good nice mix

Ruck 1/1 – standard ive recently gone right off nic nat but jlt will tell if no good you can easily drop parish to rayner and upgrade nat to whoever

Fwds – 3/1/2 nice picks, not sure Higgins will play you don’t have enough for straight swap to rayner but maybe if he don’t get up Liam Ryan 220k might

All in all looks good you have guns in each line as well as cash cows you will tweak team over JLT and of course the all important greenlights on the rookies on Thursday night 22 March for Tigers and Blues then Friday 23rd March for the rest

i can’t really formulate a proper team until more a clearer picture of which rookies will play round one is presented. i can put together a rough idea but we have seen time and time again players we put in our team that never get a game, eg lachie keefe…who probably will do the same to us coaches this season. the other things im looking for this season is players who are top in the respective positions. speculative picks and mid-pricers have often meant that i’ve spent the season trying to patch up holes and my team never gets completed. this time i am going to pick more “certainties” and combine that with some rookies who will play. the only problem with this is you get stuck with a shit rook who scores 40 every week and barely makes you 100k….torn, really confused. anyway this is what ive come up with>

DEF: Laird, Yeo, Hanley, Seedsman, Austin, J Smith (Murray, Doedee)
MID: Mitchell, Merrett, Rockliff, Beams, B Crouch, Dow, Davies-unieke, T Kelly (Freeman, Barry)

Wow so many PODs if you don’t start with this team make sure you do a second team with this line up use a different email.

I guess you call it mid price madness

you probably will score well early but have little cash generation is all with limited ability to upgrade rookies and or mid priced guys but you probably know this and put this team up to take the piss out of us all (no offence if this is a serious team dude)

M4 – M6 are value picks. I believe Blakely can go to 100 at least and make him a keeper in defence (I believe he will get round 6 DPP). I have J.Smith to put in the mids on the bench. From that I believe M. Kennedy can average anywhere from 90+ and Ah Chee averaging 80+ therefore making them good value and stepping stones. I have the ability to put Ah Chee in the Forwards for someone like Setterfield as a stepping stone and or keeper at F6 depending on how the season pans out. With the mid coverage I can am ab;e to make that move because it would bring in three rookies (Guns and Rookies strategy) if I was to make any of these moves. I also have Lobb as a back up for Nic Nat or even as to use Nic Nat to up grade someone in the Forwards and have Lobb as R2 (Because he will get DPP in Round 6). Just a little explaination of mt thinking but thanks for the advice!

          January 31, 2018 at 4:09 pm

I like your thinking have been down this road before depends on if you are trying to win the car or your league. All your value picks as you say or mid priced players so not premo and not rookies are say:
          – Tuohy
          – Hanley
          – Seedsman
          – Kennedy
          – Ah Chee
          – Nic Nat
          – Lobb
          – Christensen (although near rookie price)

So im counting Blakely and Barlow as Premos and Bennell as rookie

Now for your plan to work you really need ALL 8 of them to fire.

You will score well early but don’t have the cash generation.

You probably wont lose money but wont make it either, say as an average 4 fire and 4 get their averages so b/e you have not generated enough cash. Lets say all of them only get heir average.

Also in your team you have a lot of players who were injured last year, are still carrying niggles and/or not in full training atm.

I get where you are going but seen it and tried it before and believe a true guns/rookies strat is best with possibly 1-2 mid priced breakout hopefuls at most

But is just IMO if they all go well then you look great and win the car cheers.

      Neale 706 100 100.3 96.7 99.8

      Round 1 projected score
      Beams 118
      Neale 103

Neale 3 & 5 round of games played includes a 32 last one in which he got injured if I select the 3/5 games prior the stats are 3 round 117.7 and 5 round 113.4

Beams total average includes a 5

I currently have Beams and sounds like he is fully fit, noting he finished the season whereas Neale did not. Love Neale had him in his breakout year but bit hot n cold since.

I actually like this team good rooks and guns with only couple of mid pricers Parish and Smith should go well but are same team, is hard people saying smith, parish, mcgrath, and stringer all getting mid time sounds a bit Suns like to me sucks us all in with rumours but JLY may show more.

Good team only pick I don’t like is Nic Nat, gone right off him see article today AFL site he will play ruck role with Lycett, and at the training session only compelted 30 mins. He is going to be managed I think so limits his game time and at that price he needs to go 75+ from get go cant see it 65 at best, and no guarantee he is going to travel week 2 to Melbourne to face Dogs especially as they don’t have strong rucks so Eagles play it safe. SO unless Cameron or English playing your stuck with facing trading in a ruck around $450k

Look is just IMO on Nat I had him in my team until yesterday but have never been comfortable with him.

    No love for Jack Steele?

I have tried several times to squeeze him in just cannot seem to find a way.

Averaged 7.9 tackles a game in 2017, Ranked #2 in tackles per game in 2017.

    2015 averaged 64
    2016 averaged 71
    2017 averaged 92

15 of his 20 games in 2017 were 90 or more surely with no more Joey’ Montagna he goes 100+?

      Solid Mids and bench cover.

Jacobs is always solid and should ruck alone.

Like defence Lobb as F3 a little light on for me, You have 2 set and forget ruck so not sure why you have Lobb also unless you think he’s going massive early and will make some quick cash.

Don’t think you can base a selection solely from last years season. Jack Steven went from 111, to 104, to 98. There’s always a chance they’ll go backwards, he’s a fantasy gun yes, but you still need to watch prior to round 1.
