AFL Teams 2016: Round 12

No late changes Hawks vs Dons. Good luck this weekend!

5:30pm Friday 10/06/2016

Sunday Extended bench selections are IN! Jack Billings (Fwd/Mid) is a surprise omission. Tom Lee (Def), Luke Delaney (Def), Liam Sumner (Mid/Fwd), Jayden Short (Mid/Fwd), Callum Mills (Mid/Def), Jacob Hopper (Mid), James Rose (Fwd), Harrison Marsh (Def), Rory Thompson (Def) are all rookies that made that made the cut. George Hewett (Mid) is officially out with concussion, and not as DT relevant rookies Keegan Brooksby (Ruck/Fwd) and Mackenzie Willis (Fwd/Mid) are omitted. Connor Menadue (Fwd/Mid) to owners dismay didn’t make the cut, neither did Aliir Aliir (Def).
An interesting inclusion is Ryan Griffen (Mid) who has a small potential to be relevant himself, but more interested in how he affects other GWS midfielders, including rookie Hopper, and others like Greene, Coniglio, Shiel, Scully etc.
Lewis Pierce (Ruck $125,000 AF $128,200 DT) will be debuting for St Kilda, although I don’t think his Job Security is great, watch for now for the potential of a ruck downgrade.
Reminder that we won’t know about Dees or Pies Bench extension changes, so players such as Ben Kennedy (Mid/Fwd), Clayton Oliver(Mid), Dean Kent (Fwd), Jonathon Marsh (Def) if you still have them, prepare for accordingly. We also won’t determine if Tom Phillips (Fwd/Mid) will debut. He is named on the wing.

6:30pm Thursday 09/06/2016

Teams are in! Huge out with Sam Mitchell (Mid) for Hawks! James Kelly (Mid/Def) is back for bombers in the same match. Another big out is Nick Riewoldt (Fwd) with knee concerns.
Goldstein is back and so is Scott Thompson making owners pleased. Aaron Mullett (Def) is on one or two teams already, and his JS is looking better with Wright out for North. Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (Fwd/Def) is confirmed as being rested as reports indicated. Jackson Paine (Fwd) was in a few teams solely due to lack of forward rookie options, alas he is now out with a foot injury.

5:30pm Thursday 09/06/2016

Teamsheets are in shortly ~6:15pm. There is a Monday match this week, so you won’t know extended bench selections for dees or pies before Lockout, bare that in mind when trading in players and your own rookies on field.
We already have news Aaron Hall will be dropped to NEAFL (Seriously Eade!). The opposite is true with a shock early inclusion of Jack Viney looking likely for the dees. Ryan Crowley is out for 4 weeks with a hammie. Yet again people will be sweating over Todd Goldstein as an inclusion, and many will also be sweating over Nick Riewoldt. There are also reports Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti will be sitting out this week.

Shags’ Watchlist

lee
With a bad run of injuries for the Saints especially to their defense, all of a sudden Tom Lee (Def $181,000 be -6 $ 128,200 be -62 DT) becomes a lot more likely to hold a spot in the team. He’s on the bubble for Real Dreamteam as well.

Shags’ Watchlist

conca
One a bit leftfield but bear with me. A player that seemed to not live up to expectations DT wise in the past, but I can’t help but feel he still has a lot of potential is Reece Conca (Mid/Fwd $310,000 AF $ 255,600 DT) who is mid priced in AF but just shy of rookie priced in DT. Could be a pricey downgrade DPP that can be a good bench cover for you. Wait and watch his role.

Shags’ Watchlist

griff
Perhaps wrong time in the season to look at a midprice risk like Ryan Griffen (Mid $440,000 AF $ 463,600 DT) but he is a classy player and is cheap so definitely put on watchlist, even if just to see how he affects players like Jacob Hopper or other GWS premium mids especially Coniglio.

Shags’ Watchlist

viney
A speculative watchlist player on a speculative game where we won’t know for sure final selections before lockout, but Jack Viney (Mid. $530,000 AF be 129 $530,000 be 107 DT) is a very surprising inclusion (or is he) who was supposed to have broken knuckles and out for 3 weeks. He was pumping out huge scores before a season low injury affected 72. Too risky to trade in this week, but watch his form as he could drop to be quite cheap, and we know he is capable of great scores. Perfect watchlist player.

Shags’ Watchlist

hams
Alreay well reported there are not that many fwd rookies going around, and we have forward cashcows to cull, Will Hams (Fwd $173,000 AF $137,200 DT) with a solid 75 and the fact that Dons surely should blood their rookies this year makes him the best option. Unless you desperately need the option, hold 1 more week in RDT.

Hunter
Its absolutely clear that Lachie Hunter (Mid $553,000 be 62 AF $574,900 be 47 DT) is having a breakout year. He smashed out a huge 163 last week and is averaging 111.8 for the year, that is Uber premium contention. His Round 14 bye status is also very handy.

mullett
Aaron Mullett (Def $231,000 AF be 2, $249,000 be 7) is a tad pricey for a downgrade option, however with Sam Wright out with an Ankle injury for 6-8 weeks his shaky Job Security doesnt look as shaky. Solid and a POD downgrade option especially if it suits your bye structure.

Shags’ Watchlist

lycett
Scott Lycett (Fwd/Ruck $489,000 be 84 AF $530,600 be 115 DT) has caught a few peoples attention with recent big scores (although last weeks 76 was a tad lacklustre). I actually included him in my watchlist as his DPP (Dual position player) Ruck/Fwd status could make him very handy over the byes (with many having Frost, Cox or West DPP on their ruck bench) slot him in your forward line and switch around maximising players on your field. He is playing well enough he could find himself permanently on your forward line or as a replacement for under performing rucks after byes (Like Stef Martin!).

A windy cold day in 2015, I was bored, sick with the flu, and decided to start a blog about Teamsheets. I was immediately recruited by Warnie and somehow am now a DTTALK author. NOTE; Im Back in 2022! woooo Twitter @shagbags2023 ~REMEMBER: Friends don't let friends DT TEAMS become ghost ships.
