Dream Team Extra: Round 19

Who’s hit the headlines this week? What’s the fallout from the weekend? Let’s take a look at a few newsworthy snips, and maybe a bit of juicy goss, that may have an effect on your Dream Team this weekend!

Dream Team 2012 is a tale of opposites. You’re either cracking epic scores each week with minimal effect from the ongoing carnage or you’re sinking fast with low trades and weekly donuts. The fade out in the participation rate tells me that there are a decent number in the latter category who are already in Preseason 2013 mode. Fear not though – the crew at Virtual Sports have already got their thinking caps on for changes to next season to keep all coaches keen until the end. I have to apologise in advance as this week’s news roundup is a couple of hours late and also pretty short and sharp, mostly due to my desire to hit the pool here in warm, sunny Bali, so let’s get into it!

In not-too-unexpected news, Buddy Franklin misses another week as the Hawks take the conservative route of saving their spearhead ahead of their finals campaign. With such a well-balanced group of goal kickers, they were never going to risk him, but it sure does hurt the majority of DTers who will have big Buddy riding the pine. The twatter is that Robbo and Sidey should be back to bring much-needed relief to the FWD lines of many coaches. And, of course, there is always The Zork for cover…

Ow… I bent my wookie!

Gregory Got Fingered

When he’s good, he’s very, very good, but when he’s bad, he abandons his coaches, which pretty much sums up The Gregory’s fantasy footy relationship. No Daniel Chick heroics here as Broughts gets his dodgy digit fixed and misses the rest of the season. The question of whether to hold or trade is tricky if you’re low on trades, so you can only consider this based on your team’s situation and depth and your strategy for the DT Finals. Greg Broughton, #neveragain?!?

Crows Airborne

Coaches hoping to catch a break after those first two snips of bad news will be happy to hear coach Sanderson proclaim the two Sam’s (Shaw and Jacobs) as firm starters for this week’s anticipated shellacking match against Essendon.

So there’re two donuts dodged this round with Shaw being handy cover for those carrying the dead weight of Broughton and those who missed Big Sauce last weekend. Another Crow in-flight is popular gun MID Scotty Thompson, who is free to play after the MRP decided to let him off for his bump on StevieJ. Good news if you have Thommo, but bad news if you have StevieJ, who will likely miss this week.

Cheap Fyfe

I’m obliged to repeat the obvious this week: Nat Fyfe has dropped to $380k with a BE of 80. If you have the need for a forward upgrade or if you’re trading for depth across MID/FWD, just get him. You know he’ll deliver for you every week and I’ll keep preaching depth in these last few rounds of Dream Team until I’m blue in the face (or out of trades!)…

Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Trading? Heard any juicy news bits, gossip or rumours? Got a rant or a rave? Stick it in the comments and let’s get some healthy chatter going ahead of team lists tonight. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!

Sorry everyone, had to do it.
Great work TeeTee as always. Pitty I dont have a few spare trades to burn otherwise Fyfe would be straight in!
Looking at going Darley > Suckers/MJ this week to complete my team with 2 trades left.

DEF: Deledio, Scotland, Goddard, Birchall, Carrazzo, Suckling, Heppell (Clarke, S.Shaw)

MID: Swan, Ablett, Pendlebury, Boyd, Jelwood, Rockliff (Gibson, D.Smith)

      RUC: Cox, McEvoy (Redden, Campbell)

FWD: Beams, Sidebottom, Franklin, Robinson, Dangerfield, Martin, Zorko (Treloar, Hall)

Any thoughts on Suckling v Johnson?

I would go Suckling as Johnson’s had a couple of low scores recently and Suckling had 110+ last game. I have them both though.

        what about heath shaw?

he wont get a rest and he plays STK, SYD, NTH, WCE, ESS all besides sydney are reasonably well scored against DT wise and he is only in about 35000 teams should score well for the rest of the year and silly as it sounds is kind of a unique this year. THOUGHTS APPRECIATED

Thanks TeeTee. I’m really keen on Fyfe, as I’m also a big fan of building depth, but with two trades left it’s a bit of a gamble.

Good to see some of my players back. Bad that Jacobs (opponent’s player) looks to be back but Cox (my player) is less certain.

I have a choice between ROK and Fyfe as a mid/fwd. who should I pick given I have means of hiring either?

i got okeefe early in the year and he has been a superstar ever since, now running a 5 game average of 114.

In saying that, he’s 100k more and i reckon fyfe should be able to match him, or at least stay close.

All that means, if its your last trade, get okeefe, if you have any trades left get fyfe. That 100k will come in handy in any last trades, and its always really frustrating not being able to replace your LTI’s with the best

Thanks for the input. I might end up with them both before finals end (Gibson->ROK/Fyfe might be trade 24) but my position is that, provided Cox plays, I have a shot at p1 with a guaranteed p4 who has injuries but no trades and a likely much easier path to Preliminary Final.

I’m looking at Broughton (thank God) and Buddy out to bring in Scott Thompson and either ROK or Fyfe. Also leaves me with 3 trades and $75k. I think Buddy won’t be up to par in time to help me in DT finals either and Gibson will likely rise in price lots too.

It pretty much boils down to whether ROK wil score more against Carlton than Fyfe will against West Coast this week. I know I pays my money and takes my chances but I can’t decide. DT projections say ROK but I’m just not sure???????

    Thinkin of doing this…
    Morris – Bell
    Clarke – Scotland

But im not sure if Bell can hold his spot when robbo comes back. Is there any downgrade targets for sexton? Thoughts?

Fyfe could pop his shoulder at any moment.

Broughton out being traded out this week just like every other unlucky team who still has him.

Not sure who to bring in out of Fisher or Suckling?

    Backline currently consists of –

Deledio, Scotland, Goddard, Waters, Enright, Carazzo, *Broughton, Shaw, Spurr

Money isnt an issue, just after the highest scorer possible over the rounds remaining.. Any advice / comment is appreciated!
