Lockout Chat: Round 11

Giddy up! The multi-bye rounds are here! Whether we like it or not, we’ll be eating multiple donuts over the next 3 weeks and not just through players who have the bye. What is your strategy over these rounds and have you traded to help your squad field the best team possible over these rounds? Keep us updated with your score in the comments as the round progresses.

After a massive week in AFL Dream Team, we are back for another round. How are you attacking Round 11? Did you make any big trades? Discuss it all here in the comments all weekend. We want to hear your scores after each game so we all get a good idea how the DT community is going!

POST YOUR SCORES: Show your scores as well as how many players have played… if you captain has played, count then as two. So at the end of the round, you have 23 players to have played.

Co-captain of DT Talk since inception in 2007. Finally had a good season with an overall ranking of 137th for 2018... next goal is to replace the dirty old trucker hat with an AFL Fantasy one! Follow on Twitter: @WarnieDT

1042 with Swan, Sidey and Clarke to play.

This week has been a disaster…..have had 5 donuts and the sad thing is 4 of those donuts don’t even have their byes this round (Spurr, Smedts, Pendles, Zaka).

So many underperformers in Captain Ablett, Robbo, Big O, Martin, Lids, Suckling, Sexton and even Mitchell and Birch coulda done better. On top of that I’ll have to sideways Zaka and waste another trade.

1379 with Sidey, Beams and Marley Williams to play… so should end up with 1600+ which I’m stoked with.

Copped 2 donuts in Def thanks to Freo not playing Spurr (although this was inevitable as we havent seen him since his 3rd game.

Due to cop 3 donuts next week (pending injuries and suspensions) and then will be getting rid of 2 or 3 of Pfeiffer, Sexton, Morris before round 13. If I drop all 3, will only cop the 1 donut in round 13.

As for this week, Captn Lids was epic fail and gave me 156 points (although outscorred my opponets Ablett so happy enugh about that). Tons from Johnson (105), Ebert (112), Kennedy (101) and Hale (101) have helped out a lot in what has been a pretty pathetic week from DT perspective.

On the other hand, stoked with Sydneys win over the bombers. Absolutely disgusted that they coughed up a 47 point 3 qtr time lead, and honestly would have coughed up the win if the game went for a few seconds longer… but thats all history now. Really feel for Dempsey though… hopefully he kicks back next week and tonnes up for me.

the bad, the good and the ugly:

the bad: i have eighteen donuts across my whole squad, partly thanks to the fact i have pendles, lewis, waters, scotland, zaha and the horse doing fark all this week. the least i could swallow on the field then, is 10. call me homer simpson. sitting at a paltry 835 with two left to play. my normal average is 2100.

the good: my opponent gave up on his dt ages ago and he actually has 11 donuts on field. i could possibly actually win if sidebum and clarke manage 120 between them. however in this round of awful scoring i am not that confident.

the ugly: this ‘all in the same boat’ theory is rubbish. i agree, a cup of concrete for sure, but at least let’s call it what it is: a total farce. the only reason i have a chance in hell of winning this week is through the luck of the draw. if i was playing someone who was switched on, i’d get walloped. as it is, i’ll take the points if i win, thank you very much, but i feel sorry for the two guys above me on the ladder who have played shrewdly all season and are now both losing their games to teams better suited to the bye. these ridiculous byes are a metaphor for the lopsided and farcically uneven afl draw, and while they take some of the sting out of a loss, they also steal the sweetness of victory. bring back the normal rounds, i say, and let us never speak of this again.

If they weren’t preparing for the byes, they weren’t playing shrewdly.

Everyone knew they were coming. The people whinging the loudest now are the ones who stuck their heads in the sand before Round 1.

Your shrewd league mates and yourself will recover once the MBRs are over – it is only 3 out of 17 rounds. Will make naff all difference to a top 2 team. The lads battling for 4th or 7th-8th may have their fate decided by these rounds – but it was/is a level playing field, and nothing at all like the farcical AFL fixture (over two years Collingwood will have played expansion clubs a total of 3 times – several other clubs will have a total of 4 just for this year – wonder if that will be disadvantageous if percentage ends up mattering – corrupt much?)

i don’t agree. i am not whinging anyway, i had banked on losing all three at the start of the year as part of my game plan…and for the record, neither are the guys above me whinging. it’s just that it’s a rolll of the dice who you get to play in those 3 rounds, and 12 points can make or break some teams over the course of a season – particularly those who are hovering around the 8. in a competition where everybody DID, or everybody DID NOT, prepare for the bye rounds, it would be a level playing field. however, a comp where some people who buried their heads in the sand can still pick up 12 points courtesy of a lucky draw against fellow muppets, while other who may have sacrificed points/trades to plan for the byes can be whipped by teams who chose to do the same – all because a third of the teams are wiped out for a three weeks running – is not what i call even. personally i don’t really care about it that much but it IS a farce, no doubt. and don’t get me started on the collingwood-biased afl draw for the past twenty years!!!! LOL!!!!

Just slightly weighing into this debate; over the 3 bye rounds I’m facing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in my main league. Hows that for luck. hahah…

I started the year with the plan to not bother too much with the byes as I didn’t like the idea of having to structure my squad in a way that I had to choose the 2nd, 3rd or 4rth best option to fill a position, rather than just picking up the obvious choice.

As the year has panned out and the league king pins have revealed themselves I changed my tack and slowly started tweaking my squad to be as strong as possible over the 3 weeks. Looks like its working so far. 2 donuts this week and have already beaten my opponent (1st). Due to cop 3 next week and will lose by approx 200 points against 3rd, followed by 3 more in rd 13 and lose by 100 to 2ndz. But I plan on making a couple of trades to counteract that. I may just give up on round 12 and aim for another win in round 13. 2 out of 3 is good I think.

Collingwood complaining about the draw? Try leaving the MCG or even Victoria more than a couple times a year. Some teams actually have to travel every other week.

Sitting on 1509 with Sidey still to play. Will have 1 donut next week without using a trade, but round 13 will be a tears story. Thankfully I’m playing the crab of our league.

WTF is with magner getting only 5 its half way through the 2nd qtr but still… Fuck man dont you guys hate it when a players BE is reachable but they get injured early in the game resulting only 6 and 1 yes i’m looking at you didak and carrots still dont know why i’ve kept carrots though……. have very few trades (8) have been bombarded with sooo many fucking injuries- carrots, didak, swan, murph, ablett.

trading didak in was the worst trade ever-besides Ablett -> Stanton

My fwd is ok with buddy, sidebum, whitecross, martin, porpz, didak, robbo (dev smith, dickson)

depends on how serious the injury is but tell me:
    1. Ifi should trade him if he’s <3 weeks
    2. If i should trade him if he's 4+ weeks

Needed Sidebottom to score 50 more than Magner for an important league win. Sidebottom 127 to Magner 35 and game not finished yet!

If I lost after what happened last week (went from a win to a loss after a score adjustment) I would of been pretty pissed!
