Trade Talk Tuesday: Round 14

Tony Tawk has written a trade article this week to give us a forum to discuss our ideas. Throw some names out there and have a think before team selections Friday night.

  • Roy

It was a very low-scoring week. Our premiums let us down.  The highest score this week was 2322, which is a great score, but low on the usual high. I know Warnie got in the 1800’s. I’m ashamed to say I barely scraped over 1700. But we still got things to look forward to. Swan is coming back next week, along with Pendles, Shaw etc.

It’s still upgrade time, so people should be working hard on their teams. I know I only got 4-5 trades left to upgrade. By now, everyone should have 19-20 premiums in their team. Make sure you keep enough trades and money for the finals. Let’s take a look and who we should be upgrading this week.

Heppell – I know I said he was a keeper, but he’s going down in price.

Lower – Only went up by $1000 this week, so get him out soon.

Adcock – Out for 4 weeks, trade him.

Liberatore – Scores are beginning to drop and so is his price.

Darling – Been great, but like others, is beginning to go down in price.

Get in:

Goodes – Really starts to peak in the second half

Ablett – Is beginning to kill it and both his byes are done.

Kreuzer – He’s playing good footy, and he’s cheap and a unique pick, so could be a good buy.

Hodge – Now that he’s over his injury, he should start getting back to his best.

Some underpriced guns to keep in mind are: Stanton, Sylvia, Higgins, Enright and Rawlings.

My mids are pretty much set.. looking to get Pendles for Harris to complete it..
Forwards needs another premi or 2 to be finished.. I’d be looking at 4 or 5 trades depending on a few cows price changes.

Backline: Gibbs, Delds, Goddard, Rawling, Suckling, Heppell, Lower. (Duigan, Otten, Adcock)

11 trades and only 75,500 because last week I did swallow to Ablett.

Should I look to trade Adcock out.. it feels like a waste at his price? Is it worth doing that to pick up another Premium in the backs?

      God no. That’s crazy talk.

He will be well rested and given staker will be back at the same time, he’ll slot back into the sweeper roll and back to scoring hundreds. And where will you be? Kicking yourself that you burnt a trade and got rid of one of the few high scoring backs in the comp…

Yeah I know.. just hate seeing that high AVG. Sit on my bench.

Do you think I should get rid of Duigan next week depending on his BE because this week it’s only 54?
I’ve got backline cover through multiple dpp also?

Your back line is looking good. With Heppell, lower, duigan and otten and 11 trades you’re primed to upgrade one and then downgrade another to free up cash (now or later). Have you considered upgrading say Heppell to shaw. You’ll need to downgrade someone else to free up cash but in all honesty you probably have too much depth with that back line bench. Noting that adcock and Goddard are on the pine this week.

Hey everyone I really need some advice!

I have 33k in the bank with seven trades left for the season

    Should I:

Option 1: Osbourne > Callinan then D Swallow > Pendlebury

Option 2: Downgrade Matera for a cheap forward THEN take out Osbourne for Goodes, Harvey or Chapman?

    • Avatar

      June 21, 2011 at 11:15 pm

Pendles is an addition I’m looking at… however I’m also contemplating a marc murphy perhaps to differentiate from the rest?
With 7 trades I wouldn’t be doing too many trades.
Can you afford to hold on to swallow for a week or two?

Agree with Crilly that 7 trades is skinny. I have 8 at the moment but will be bringing Sylvia in this week then will sit tight for a while.

Having said that, I broke all the rules last week by already bringing in callinan ( was part of a GAJ) deal I formulated.

Three reasons why callinan will play this week:
      1. Adelaide are in crap from and will now look to blood players
      2. Callinan is a 28 year old rookie so the crows wouldn’t have picked him up if they weren’t going to play him. And they will want to see if he’s worth keeping so will play him from here on
3.he tore it up in the sanfl on the weekend (30 touches)

So if you’re going to downgrade for cash in the midfielder forward, bring in callinan.

And why the hell not, treat yourself to a pendlebury.

why is it that north and geelong players are less of a concern in the finals, isnt a bye a bye?

    • Avatar

      June 22, 2011 at 12:14 am

Pretty sure the finals fixture follows the real game, so if you finish top 4 and win the first week you don’t have an opponent during the second week.

I’m really stuck on what to do with my rucks – Cox, Sandilands, Smith, Bailey.

7 trades left, $170k in the bank. Obviously I’ll wait and see if Sandi is back this week, and I have kept him this long, but it’s getting to the stage where I either cash him in and rely on the other three, or if I keep him, do I cash in Smith and then just have Bailey as backup?…

    • Avatar

      June 22, 2011 at 12:38 am

If you’ve kept Sandi this long, you’d be crazy to trade him. Cox and Sandi will be your top 2 rucks come finals, so hold Smith until after their byes and downgrade him. Bailey is looking like decent cover, but if you have Petrie up forward go Smith > Tippet to gain extra cover.

    Hey all

    My team is currently

Gibbs, Birchall, Shaw, Enright, Goddard, Heppell, Lower
    Adcock, Poop, Toy

Boyd, Pendles, Swan, Ablett, Bartel, Hodge
    Kerr, Hibberd, Prestia

    Cox, Smith
    Bailey, Tippett

Johnson, Franklin, Sylvia, Goodes, Petrie, LeCras, Riewoldt
    Smith, Gu, Richardson

    5 trades left

Looking for some advice on whether to burn Toy (just a waste of resources) then upgrade Adcock to Lids or to hold my fire for now. Or should I cut Heppell?

    My backline is so useless.

I’m going for overall – I’m pretty confident I can win my league at any rate.

    • Avatar

      June 22, 2011 at 10:21 am

With 5 trades I would leave Adcock IMO. There’ll be more important trades down the track for you to make your move.

I am contemplating the cardinal sin. A sideways trade.

I’ve got a top of the table clash in my league and am considering N Voldt-> Didak.

Currently got 8 trades left and I thought my team was pretty well finished but with the Saints bye this week and Nicks sh*thouse score last week my finger is hovering over the “T” button.

Any thoughts on the trade? Nick vs Didak?

Should I trade or should I just relax and suck it up?

I’m one of the very few that have not had Gibbs.
@358K averaging 100, he seems good value even with a finals bye.
    Heppell to Nicholson.
    Buckley to Gibbs.
Ranking 4000. Still in the eliminator so that is my focus at the moment

Suckling/ shaw / birchall / broughton… Who to bring in for heppel?

  9. Avatar

    June 22, 2011 at 12:59 pm

I’ve got money to spend on a backline player for Heppell

    Current Backline
Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Rawlings, Enright, Heppell, Otten, (Stanley, Puopolo, Jacobs)

Thinking of Heppell to Scotland but no-one seems to be doing this trade, wondering why? Just not worth his price tag and finals bye? I’m going for overall, not for car but for a bet.
    I’m also looking at Shaw/Suckling/Birchall/Fisher/Carrazzo

I think/hope Otten can be the back I intended at the start of the year and average around 80, Stanley is averaging about that now anyway, so I think 7th and 8th are fine, especially considering the lack of consistency this year.

    MIDS:Swan,Pendles,Boyd,Murphy,A.Swallow,Hodge (Mzungu,Smith,Jacobs)

    FWDS:Franklin,Fyfe,Goodes,S Johnson,N Reiwoldt,Didak,Knights (J Riewoldt, Darling,Richardson)

As you can see i’m failing to have DPP in my fwd line.
To cover N Reiwoldt and Franklin i’ve only got Darling.
I’ve got 5 trades left with 20,900 remaining.
To get better flexibility should I trade
    N. Reiwoldt to Higgens or Sylvia?
Richardson to Callinan for DPP and bring in smith or mzungu from the mids?
    Any other ideas?
I traded Liberatore to Swan this week but to make room I swapped Fyfe down to FWD for Mzungu.
Not interested in making cash anymore.

    Hey Hey guys and gals!

does this sound ok for a double trade

    Duigan > Suckling

    Heppell > Lids

Or would it be better to wait on Sam Fisher next week??

My backline would look like this then if i do those 2 trades this week.

Gibbs, R. Murphy, Suckling, Lids, Lower, N. Smith, Pedersen(Goddard, Adcock, Pouplo)

change of plans guys! with bartel possibly out for a while (and i’ll have to trade him come finals anyway) i have come up with my trade plans that i’ll carry out over the coming weeks.

this week: heppell > golby and darling > didak
next week: lower > fisher and bartel > scott thompson

then with 3 trades to go my team will be:

goddard, delidio, shaw, scotland, gibbs, adcock, fisher (hibberd, puopolo, golby)
swan, pendlebury, redden, boyd. ablett, thompson (mzungu, i.smith, jacobs)
    sandilands, cox (j.tipp, mccauley)
chappy, n.voldt, sylvia, petrie, goodes, fyfe, buddy (didak, prestia, howe)

then in round 21 dids can cover petrie, in round 22 dids can cover chappy, in round 23 hibberd can cover gibbs (ill trade out scotland) and in round 24 i’ll have no premo bombers anyway. then i can use the other 2 trades for LTI’s, and if i get struck with more than 2 LTI’s ive got dids who can come in and cover anyway.

    thoughts guys?

Hey guys just a quick one.
Would you rather trade Krakouer to Dahlhaus, and Iles to Ablett – this leaves $44K. Also leaves Swallow as my 7th mid and Mzungu as my 8th fwd.

Or, Prestia to Dahlhaus and Swallow to Ablett leaving $2000 and Iles as my 7th mid, with Krak as my 8th fwd and Mzungu floating between?

Mids: Swan, Pendles, Boyd, Bartel, Mitchell, Swallow (Iles, Krakouer, Callinan)
Fwds: Franklin, Sylvia, Chapman, Riewoldt, Goodes, Higgins, Knights (Mzungu, Prestia, Howe)

Cheers and good luck this round. Tossing up between Boyd and Ablett for captain!

I realize the Knights to Didak trade has been discussed previously but I’m really pulling my hair out about this.
    Fwd line currently consists of:
Sylvia, Pav, Buddy, Nwolt, Petrie, higgins and knights (Howe, Zungu, Richardson)
I have 9 trades left and was considering trading in Didak for Knights?? I am guessing knights will probably average around 75-80 for the rest of the season and didak around 80-90.
I’m going for league win only, and have 20000 in the bank. Not really happy with knights has my 6th fwd but willing to put up with him and go for a later upgrade if something becomes available.
Thoughts on bringing didak in for knights?

If your really need the cash Nicholson is probably the best priced rookie defender available. I wouldn’t expect many more to come along for the rest of the season. Keep in mind that stanley is averaging around the 75 mark and is a great option as a 7th/8th defender.

Should I go Darling —> Didak or Higgins? 1 trade left this round (8 trades left in total) and $96,700 left in the bank.

Higgins. Looks to be coming back to full fitness and starting to score well. I don’t think the role Didak is playing this year will see him pull to many +100’s. You have enough cash to go for Higgins.

    Hi, all.

I have 12 trades and $114,300 on hand.

Considering Duigan to Shaw and N. Riewoldt to Syliva.

Backs: Gibbs, Deledio, Heppell, Duigan, Lower, Scarlett, Puopolo, Goddard, N. Krakouer, R. Tarrant

Mids: Murphy, Boyd, Pendlebury, Mitchell, Curnow, Mzungu
    Montagna, Harris, Jacobs

    Rucks: Cox, Petrie
    Smith, Keeffe

Forwards: Fyfe, Pavlich, Knights, Darling, Yarran, Krakouer, Howe
    Franklin, N. Riewoldt, Richardson

I reckon the trade to Shaw is the right thing to do this week but slightly less sure about the sideways move to Sylvia.

As you can see I am pretty new at this but would love some general pointers about how I should approach the rest of the season for a league win.

    Thanks :)
