Oiii arrg me hearties, welcome back to the worlds greatest captain’s advice in the land. We all know that this is where it is at and this week I have some crackers for you. Last week many people were tossing up between Swan and Boyd after it was rumoured that it was bucketing down at the MCG on the Friday night. Many people were worried about this switched to Boyd… either way it didn’t matter as each of these guns had 115 each. Why worry? Ha ha!
Anyway, this week I have a few interesting things we need to discuss… let’s check them out!
“Someone Call 911, He’s on Fire”
Owww, not many people are worthy of this classic NBA Jam quote… but Joel Selwood and Matthew Boyd certainly deserve it. Joel Selwood has been on fire big time averaging 126 in his last 3 games this year, with a lowest score of just 121 during this period. He had 113 last time he played Blues and finds himself at Etihad this week. Joel is on fire and should be solid this week. Matthew Boyd is in the same burning boat, averaging 125 in his last 2 games this year. He had 114 in his last against the Eagles and has 4×100+ scores against them in his last 5 games. This week Boyd is back at Patersons Playground where he has already played Freo this year… remember? He had 45d for a huge 162pts that day and loves the Playground. Before that 162, he has had scores of 114 and 114 there in his 2 games prior to that magical day. My biggest concern for Boyd though is the ‘Selwood Bro Tag’. Adam and Scott have claimed some good scalps this year and although I believe they’ll go to Griffen and Cooney, but Boyd may just be targeted. Cooney and Griffen are easier to tag, and people like Boyd are sometimes left and labelled ‘untaggable’, so coaches use their taggers to shut down the 2nd/3rd best players… Boyd may be tagged and this tagging issue is my only concern for him this week. But he should be very very good!
CBS News
With all 3 boys playing Carlton here is the news… Chapman averages 110 in his last 3 games against them with scores of 126 and 103 on them in 2010. He had 126 in his last at Etihad but his form is poor as he has only had 83 and 76 in his last 2 games this year. Bartel only has 2×100+ scores against the Blues in his career of 9 games against them but averages 113 at Etihad this year from his 3 games there. Selwood has already been covered … but I needed him to make the CBS connection. That’s all for tonight’s news… Calvin the Pirate reporting.
M ‘n’ M… Montagna Vs Melbourne
Leigh Montagna kills Melbourne! Badly! His last 3 games against them look amazing with scores of 135, 110 and 146 (all since 2009). During these 3 games, Montagna has averaged 33d a game and surely will kill them this week. He is going for his 6th straight 100+ score against them and therefore they are his best team to score DT points on by a mile. He’s only had scores of 109 and 99 at Etihad this year, but Etihad has produced some big numbers. Mark my words… Montagna will be crazy good this week.
Boomshakalaka Boys
Not many people get the ‘Boomshakalaka’ call… but these guys do. Scott Pendlebury has only scored 2×100+ scores against the Crows in his last 5 games but his from under the roof of Etihad has been awesome. He averages 128 there in his last 3 games with scores of 141 and 121 there already this year. His form is shakey though with 89 and 87 in his last 2 this year. But Pendles may just bounce back this week.
You ready for this… Dane Swan this week will be huge! Firstly, this week against the Crows, he is going for his 6th straight 100+ score. However, that’s with 115 being his best in his last 5, meaning he goes well against them without killing it… until this week. He has 9×100+ scores on them, in his last 10 games and that’s a stat you won’t find on many players. Swan is back at Etihad too, where he averages 153 there in his last 3 with scores of 162, 137 (in 2011) and a 161 in his last game there in 2010. But this is the thing I want you guys to look at, some stats from 2011 so far…
Swan Vs Good Teams (Carlton, Geelong, Bulldogs, Essendon) = averaging 108
Swan Vs Poor Teams (Kangaroos, Port, Richmond) = averaging 143
Apologies to Richmond who have actually been going ok. But my point here is… Which list would you put the Crows in? I think you get what I’m saying here. Swan is slaughtering the dud teams! Swan will be very very good this week and you should lock him in with confidence… oh and if Ablett can have 156 on the Crows at AAMI, just imagine what Swan will have under the roof!
There you go, I’ve said enough. Good luck this week and I hope you have enjoyed another cracking edition of Calvin’s Captains. See you all next week.
