AFL Teams 2016: Round 18

False alarm, he is playing now

6:30pm Friday 22/07/2016

Sunday extended benches are out. Craig Bird (Mid/Fwd) is rested for the dons and Archie Smith (Ruck) is named emergency to the relief of Stef Martin owners.
To the few who still have him for whatever reason, Connor Menadue is omitted, and so is Jarrad Jansen for brissy.. Reece Conca (Mid/fwd) made the cut for the tiges.

6:30pm Thursday 21/07/2016

Teamsheets are out! Aaron Hall is out with a hamstring injury, Brett Deledio with a calf Michael Barlow with a shoulder giving us forward line woes, but Jimmy Bartel and Rory Laird is back to save many a defence, as well as another option in Matt Rosa, but we see veteran Jarrad McVeigh out with a groin injury. We also see Tom Liberatore back from injury whom some may have held.
We actually have a gluttony of new debuts with Jordan Foote (Mid. $125,000 AF $121,300 DT), Joshua Schoenfeld (Mid. $164,000 AF $121,300 DT), Shane Yarran (Fwd. $125,000 AF $121,300 DT), Aaron Francis (Mid/Def $221,000 AF $202,300 DT), and Archie Smith (Ruck $125,000 AF $121,300 DT).
Archie smith inclusion gives alarm bells for Stef Martin owners.

Shags’ Watchlist

Steele Sidebottom (Mid. $478,000 be 86 AF $490,000 be 56 DT) had a bit of a mid season rough patch and is now sub $500k. After a 119 and 110 many may argue he has bottomed out nicely as a fallen premo.

Shags’ Watchlist

Was a seemingly must have last couple of years, Josh P Kennedy (Mid. $536,000 be 88 AF $561,500 be 81 DT) has been mostly a non entity this year. Having fallen under peoples radars he is only owned by 4.08% in AF. Currently sitting on a 3 round average of 117.3, there are definite signs his DT relevancy is back.

Shags’ Watchlist

Matt Rosa (Def/Mid $351,000 be 115 AF $363,200 be 141 DT) is coming off an already injury affected score of 2. He comes into a suns lineup without a midfield, and even Hall is dropped. Surely this increases the likelihood of a decent output. He should be super cheap in a week or two with that high BE. Watch and learn.

Shags’ Watchlist

Matt Priddis (Mid $499,000 be 106 AF $519,600 be 106) has been mostly disappointing this year with an average of 99.3 being quite underwhelming. However a sub $500k Priddis with his output potential is always tempting. He is consistent.

Shags’ Watchlist

WIth lots of forward premium options out many will be looking for a replacement. I cant go past St Nick, Nick Riewoldt (Fwd/Mid AF Fwd $522,000 be 116 AF $539,900 be 120 DT). he has been a little underdone since coming back from injury, but if underdone means high 90s then just imagine when he comes good again.

I/C Brad Crouch, Richard Douglas, Jarryd Lyons, Ricky Henderson
EMG Paul Seedsman, David Mackay, Reilly O’Brien

Shags’ Watchlist

He’s been hiding in Dangerfields shadow a bit, but we cant deny Joel Selwood (Mid $532,000 be 94 AF $558,000 be 102 DT) is a superstar in his own right. His recent numbers are impressive, coming off a 128, has a 5 round average of 114 but is priced well below that. Definitely a solid option to slot into your midfield if you have space.

Shags’ Watchlist

With carnage up forward with a few forwards out, you can’t go wrong with Dayne Zorko (Fwd/Mid $559,000 be 99 AF $591,100 be 123 DT) with a 3 round average of 122.7 and season average of 111.7 looks a sure bet to be top 6 forward.

MILESTONES: Nathan Drummond – Played 1st game

Shags’ Watchlist

Possibly the only really relevant Dual position round 18 change, Luke Hodge (Def/Mid AF Mid DT $481,000 be 100 DT nope) who in previous season was a must have defender has finally been reinstated as a backman in Fantasy (ignore for DT). As such many will look to slot him in as a final defender upgrade.

MILESTONES: Harrison Himmelberg – Played 1st game

Shags’ Watchlist

Robbie Gray (Fwd/mid $502,000 be 76 AF DT nope) has had a bit of an up and down season, but since he got DPP fwd status in Fantasy round 12 he has become more relevant, and with a few fwd injuries with a 3 round average of 114.7, is a great option to slot in your forward line. His price is reasonable and he has a great ceiling. Lets be honest too, he plays midfield.

  • Best laid plans of mice and men

So rather than Cox-> Archie and Ruggles-> Kelly I will go

    Hall-> Monty, Biggs -> JJ

Next week Trade down Cox and then Ruggles to whoever I can afford, most likely Hodge. Anyone got a BE on Ruggles?

  • seriously hall

  • What do we do with Aaron hall? I’m over this.

    • Tell me about it, just got him back in last week…

Surprised the boys are all saying trade. I’ve been swapping too many premos last few weeks with Ablett, Barlow, Zorko – the team just isn’t improving. I’m thinking I play Hams this week and pray that it’s a one week thing.

Who do you have for cover?

      • Tom Phillips & nick Kommer, neither named.

Might go Phillips – Shane yarran which will then allow me to go hall – Zorko

    • I wanna know is it soreness or is it rooted? Keeping him on the bench for now but how long is he out is the question. Had him from day 1 made good $$…didnt see last weeks game did he come off at all?

    • How bad is his calf? How long? Geez their midfield will be shit.

  • Delidio, Hall and McVeigh on my team..At least it’s not playoffs..

  • Hold Hall

    Hall > Gray
    Blakely > Kelly/Hodge or Sidebottom/SMitchell via Mills

    Or just fml

  • Frost or Currie out for young Archie Smith?

  • Hams or Mathieson to field to cover hall this week

  • Thoughts on Foote? Worth picking over a Menegola?

  • who goes first out of kerridge and walters?

whos the best rookie defender to get for smith?

    • Kerridge goes walters stays only as fk all players left in freo side walters will have to step up

  • Archie Smith in Brisbane’s 25. Stefan may be out. Thankfully Frost is in, so I have (rather weak) cover.

  • Hall to C.Smith and J.Smith to Steven??

  • Where’s Jeppa? Would like to know more about these rookies!!

  • Ok… Hall and McVeigh out.

Do I take a punt on Hartlett so I can get to Zorko?

or play it safe and go Greene and Johannisen?

    • At this stage of the season, I like picking teams that will play finals… so Greene and JJ for me.

Having said that – Zorko is playing like a man possessed…

  • Should I get A.Smith, Foote, Yarran or Cowan? Or even Menegola even though he isn’t named.

    • Foote

    • Anyone no anything about Arron Francis?

      • No, nothing. If only there was somewhere we could go to look him up…

        • Maybe the library?

          • Gun by all reports, kills it in the VFL, however pricey for AFL seeing how he hasnt played at this level before

          • No! Somewhere even MORE convenient… Like at the tips of our fingers. Wish someone would hurry up and invent it

      • Hes a high draft pick 1st pick for dons in 2015 (Pick 6). However that high draft number makes his price inflated. Hes a ranga. Rangas at dons do well.
He is a very versatile player who can play a number of positions. he has been gunning it in the VFL

In VFL he’s averaged 14 disposals at 77 per cent efficiency, three rebound 50s, seven marks, eight intercept possessions and three score involvements. Of that seven-mark average, four of them are intercept marks.

Hes the sort of player dons would want to get a few AFL level games into him, so he has good JS potential now he has broken into the team I think.

  • Gray and J.Smith + 117k

    C.Smith and Steven + 30k

    • Josh Smith’s output has dropped away. Season average 70, 5 game average 67, 3 game average 60, break even 76. I getting rid of him for Robby Gray. Don’t touch him.

      • I think you read the question wrong… I am not trading J.Smith to Gray.. It is just a combo that I have in my team..

  • Was going Biggs and Davis out this week for jj and Sidey/ b crouch but with hall out need to field either Mathieson or hams on top of smith

Now thinking Davis and hall out for doc and Sidey and only fielding one rookie in smith

  • Where is Jeppa – need to get this Rookie fest sorted

  • Glut not gluttony.Glut =excess . gluttony = a Rockliff performance.

  • My plan was to trade Barlow/Smith to Zorko/JJ…

Do I stick with this and play Hams to cover for Hall or trade Hall and keep smith for another week??

    • Some help please……….

      • Yes. Stick with plan. Barlow is definitely out for season and there’s no word (yet) on Hall’s injury extent

        • Cheers. Hall out 3 weeks but I have no intention of keeping Smith given I have Ruggles on the field as well.

I’ll cover Hall this week then trade next week. Risky I know

  • What’s everyone think foote in or schonfeld from Gold Coast ?

  • Who’s the best rookie to downgrade to? Cowan, Francis or castagna

    • castagna is a proven scorer, cowan the cheapest but we havent seen much, depends what you want in your team. id go castagna

  • Other than Jeppa, has anyone else got any useful research on the new rookies?

  • Jeppa tweeted from Bali…..”Considerin $ JS &scorin potential, my top 5 #AFLFantasy rooks are
    1 Foote
    2 Castagna
    3 Naismith
    4 Smith
    5 Schoenfield

    Stay away from Yarran”

  • Aaron hall being out has fucked me over and regardless of what i do im gonna end up with two rookies on the field.
thats either gonna be hammelman or ried, can someone please help on which i should keep.

my current trades are at lee-hodge and petracca-125kmid

  • How many games will cowen get?

  • What is the concern over Stef Martin??? Can’t find any info on it and worrying me about trade plans. Info pls

    • copped one in the ribs during the second quarter but played out the game. should be playing but archie smith added to the side is worrying for his scoring output.

      • Archie Smith is an emergency so barring any late out, Stef looks good to smash it.

  • Play Collins or Smith on field?

    • which Smith? If J Smith… hard to say. Collins will have his work cut out on Lynch.

  • Foote’s last game in the NEAFL

    31 touches: 12 kicks, 19 handpasses, 2 marks, 5 tackles, 2 freekicks against.

… unfortunately, against Gold Coast, where Sydney walloped them by 130 points

  • 1)Hold Aaron Hall and get in Hodge for McVeigh. Field CSmith @ FWD
    2) Aaron Hall + McVeigh–> Hodge + Suckling(FWD)

  • The width of the protected zone on either side of a player with a mark or free kick was increased from five metres to ten metres. The rule was trialled in the 2016 pre-season before being endorsed shortly for the premiership season. A provision for the AFL to appeal to the tribunal against an inadequate penalty will be introduced; previously, players had the right to appeal their charges or penalties but the AFL did not have the right to appeal against an acquittal or lenient penalty.
