AFL Teams 2016: Round 12

5:30pm Friday 10/06/2016

Sunday Extended bench selections are IN! Jack Billings (Fwd/Mid) is a surprise omission. Tom Lee (Def), Luke Delaney (Def), Liam Sumner (Mid/Fwd), Jayden Short (Mid/Fwd), Callum Mills (Mid/Def), Jacob Hopper (Mid), James Rose (Fwd), Harrison Marsh (Def), Rory Thompson (Def) are all rookies that made that made the cut. George Hewett (Mid) is officially out with concussion, and not as DT relevant rookies Keegan Brooksby (Ruck/Fwd) and Mackenzie Willis (Fwd/Mid) are omitted. Connor Menadue (Fwd/Mid) to owners dismay didn’t make the cut, neither did Aliir Aliir (Def).
An interesting inclusion is Ryan Griffen (Mid) who has a small potential to be relevant himself, but more interested in how he affects other GWS midfielders, including rookie Hopper, and others like Greene, Coniglio, Shiel, Scully etc.
Lewis Pierce (Ruck $125,000 AF $128,200 DT) will be debuting for St Kilda, although I don’t think his Job Security is great, watch for now for the potential of a ruck downgrade.
Reminder that we won’t know about Dees or Pies Bench extension changes, so players such as Ben Kennedy (Mid/Fwd), Clayton Oliver(Mid), Dean Kent (Fwd), Jonathon Marsh (Def) if you still have them, prepare for accordingly. We also won’t determine if Tom Phillips (Fwd/Mid) will debut. He is named on the wing.

6:30pm Thursday 09/06/2016

Teams are in! Huge out with Sam Mitchell (Mid) for Hawks! James Kelly (Mid/Def) is back for bombers in the same match. Another big out is Nick Riewoldt (Fwd) with knee concerns.
Goldstein is back and so is Scott Thompson making owners pleased. Aaron Mullett (Def) is on one or two teams already, and his JS is looking better with Wright out for North. Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (Fwd/Def) is confirmed as being rested as reports indicated. Jackson Paine (Fwd) was in a few teams solely due to lack of forward rookie options, alas he is now out with a foot injury.

5:30pm Thursday 09/06/2016

Teamsheets are in shortly ~6:15pm. There is a Monday match this week, so you won’t know extended bench selections for dees or pies before Lockout, bare that in mind when trading in players and your own rookies on field.
We already have news Aaron Hall will be dropped to NEAFL (Seriously Eade!). The opposite is true with a shock early inclusion of Jack Viney looking likely for the dees. Ryan Crowley is out for 4 weeks with a hammie. Yet again people will be sweating over Todd Goldstein as an inclusion, and many will also be sweating over Nick Riewoldt. There are also reports Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti will be sitting out this week.

Important times to remember:

With a bad run of injuries for the Saints especially to their defense, all of a sudden Tom Lee (Def $181,000 be -6 $ 128,200 be -62 DT) becomes a lot more likely to hold a spot in the team. He’s on the bubble for Real Dreamteam as well.

Shags’ Watchlist

conca
One a bit leftfield but bear with me. A player that seemed to not live up to expectations DT wise in the past, but I can’t help but feel he still has a lot of potential is Reece Conca (Mid/Fwd $310,000 AF $ 255,600 DT) who is mid priced in AF but just shy of rookie priced in DT. Could be a pricey downgrade DPP that can be a good bench cover for you. Wait and watch his role.

Shags’ Watchlist

griff
Perhaps wrong time in the season to look at a midprice risk like Ryan Griffen (Mid $440,000 AF $ 463,600 DT) but he is a classy player and is cheap so definitely put on watchlist, even if just to see how he affects players like Jacob Hopper or other GWS premium mids especially Coniglio.

Shags’ Watchlist

viney
A speculative watchlist player on a speculative game where we won’t know for sure final selections before lockout, but Jack Viney (Mid. $530,000 AF be 129 $530,000 be 107 DT) is a very surprising inclusion (or is he) who was supposed to have broken knuckles and out for 3 weeks. He was pumping out huge scores before a season low injury affected 72. Too risky to trade in this week, but watch his form as he could drop to be quite cheap, and we know he is capable of great scores. Perfect watchlist player.

Shags’ Watchlist

hams
Alreay well reported there are not that many fwd rookies going around, and we have forward cashcows to cull, Will Hams (Fwd $173,000 AF $137,200 DT) with a solid 75 and the fact that Dons surely should blood their rookies this year makes him the best option. Unless you desperately need the option, hold 1 more week in RDT.

Hunter
Its absolutely clear that Lachie Hunter (Mid $553,000 be 62 AF $574,900 be 47 DT) is having a breakout year. He smashed out a huge 163 last week and is averaging 111.8 for the year, that is Uber premium contention. His Round 14 bye status is also very handy.

mullett
Aaron Mullett (Def $231,000 AF be 2, $249,000 be 7) is a tad pricey for a downgrade option, however with Sam Wright out with an Ankle injury for 6-8 weeks his shaky Job Security doesnt look as shaky. Solid and a POD downgrade option especially if it suits your bye structure.

Shags’ Watchlist

lycett
Scott Lycett (Fwd/Ruck $489,000 be 84 AF $530,600 be 115 DT) has caught a few peoples attention with recent big scores (although last weeks 76 was a tad lacklustre). I actually included him in my watchlist as his DPP (Dual position player) Ruck/Fwd status could make him very handy over the byes (with many having Frost, Cox or West DPP on their ruck bench) slot him in your forward line and switch around maximising players on your field. He is playing well enough he could find himself permanently on your forward line or as a replacement for under performing rucks after byes (Like Stef Martin!).

  • Wtf is Rodney thinking? He complains about low numbers after keeping Hall out of the centre bounces and now he sends him to the NEAFL.

  • tom lee vs luke delany

  • Sam Reid this week
Silvagni and Phillips perfect downgrades after their buy, assuming they both play this week.

  • Lewis as captain sounds appealing with mitchell out. Anyone know how he fares without hodge/mitchell in the past?

  • tippa > jansen/stewart – suggest (via smith)

who to trade hall to? thinking lewis or gaz

  • this may be stupid but is rocky a must have atm

    • No. However he is a very good option at his price and seeing how huge he can score.

You could buck the trend and betting he breaks down again (terrible thingo bet on, but thats how hedge funds work, the same principle applies here).

      • Tippa + Trengove -> T.Lee + Vince/Doc/Kelly (Gonna have to start Oliver)
Oliver + Tippa/ Trengove -> K.Stewart + Vince/Doc/Kelly (with Mitchell out this is very tempting but don’t know who to get rid of out of tippa and trengove)

  • Who to sideways trade for Mitchell needs to be under 480k

  • Ugghhhhh having to start McCarthy and Davis with both Voldt and Tippa out and no creative way to get someone like Collins in the backline starting instead

  • should I trade hall to hams and spend the cash next week or trade hall to zorko/merrett my team will still be fairly strong?

    • The former option…The gun players you entertain will miss a week via byes soon anyway, so you don’t get the benefit of their expected scores those weeks.

Premo prices fluctuate anyway, so don’t be too set specifically on zorko/Merrett, and use the cash you make from hams to UG to premo(s) after a he has had his bye.

  • Hall and Kennedy -> Isaac Smith and Suckling?

    • Sounds good to me. Smith will go big this week.

    • Not too sure on Isaac Smith, he has potential and I’d consider him if I couldn’t get to anyone else. Suckling’s a good pick up, has good form and a fantasy friendly role. Not sure on trading Hall but there’s enough reason to do so if you have nothing better to do.

      • Agreed. Smith was on my watchlist at the start of the year. either way, it forces my hand and no downgrades this week.
        Hall to Smith
B Ellis to (surely never Again) rockliff

  • Hartley and Hall to Suckling and Rocky?

    • I like the Hartley, Suckling and Rocky bits of that trade, I’m not too sure about trading Hall but it could easily pay off if Hall keeps playing fwd or in the NEAFL.

  • How long do you think Hall will be out of the side? Are people trading him out?

    • I’m holding Hall as I have 6 rookies on field atm to upgrade. But if he’s not named come round 14 I may have to trade due to my rnd 14/15 structure.

    • He’s out for at least two weeks — has the bye following his ‘suspension’ to the NEAFL.

At least he will get to play in the NEAFL to further get “improve” in the 2nd week while GC take their bye.

For fucks sake Eade, he’s coming of a shoulder injury; Don’t rate that guy as a coach.

  • Rookie selection time, which two to field out of Wagner, Collins and Tucker (I’m not considering Ruggles but he’s also there).

  • Sam J. Reid an option?

    • If he plays then he might be an option. But who would be dropped to give him a spot? I doubt he will ever have good js which is what you want going into the byes.

  • Ben Reid anyone? I traded him in defense purely based on price and stats

  • I’m very low on cash generating rookies but I can’t go past Hall & Tippa -> R. Gray & I. Smith; effectively completing my FWD line.

My money is on Gray about to go bang against WB and Freo meaning he’s bottomed out in price.

  • Hartley to Bailey Williams
    Or
    Mathieson to Sam Reid?

Need the extra 40k for Mills to Rocky

  • how to buy t.phillips or sam j reid (GWS)

  • That moment when you look at teams and see Hewett, Hall, Riewoldt, Paine and Tippa all out, along with Mathieson not named, as well as Currie and Menadue still on the pine

Just managed to avoid a donut down forward by trading Hewett for Suckling and Paine for Phillips.

Trades actually suit my bye structure for a change. Wanted to get Rocky this week, but I’m already carrying Neale, Dangerfield, Duncan, Lewis as rd 15 premium bye players as well as Mathieson.

Mathieson gone next week if he’s not named.

  • Phillips, Hams or Reid for Tippa?

    • We won’t know until after lockout if Phillips is playing.
I’m waiting until next week to downgrade a mid to him so I can have a link between mids and fwds.

    • I like Hams as a cash cow (he suits my bye structure), Phillips will probably be good as well, no idea about Reid.

  • Will Sam Reid hold his spot in the Giants outfit?!

  • Already going Hall to Rocky, for my 2nd trade which one is better ?

Dea – Suckling (Hold Tippa as he should be back next week)

    Tippa – Anyone under 394k ??

  • Just a quick question who is the better downgrade

Sam j Reid or Tom Phillips ?
    Cheers

  • Do you trade hall!?

If so how are these trades?

    Hall > Rockliff
    Tipunwuiti > someone under $491,000

    Thanks in advance

  • Keen to get Rocky in but can’t decide who to give up:
    – Hall (out of favour) or
    – Zaka (seriously mate 26 points…)
    Thoughts?

    • In exactly the same position, hall has had 1 bad week and is still averaging 100+ and feels wrong trading him out but roo being out nearly forces my hand, zaha won’t be tagged this week against hawks but has a big BE and will bleed cash and won’t be a top 8 mid, tough decision

  • My team before ant trades with only 27k in bank

Shaw, williams, Biggs, Howe, dea, Wagner (Byrne, Hartley)
Hunter, danger, Titchell, Steven, b Ellis, wells, Blakely, smith (Mathieson, hall)
    Gawn, Jacobs (cox, Currie)
Zorko, monty, dusty, Franklin, kerridge, Davis (sumner, tippa)

Was hoping at start of week to trade dea and b Ellis for rocky and Collins but don’t think wise have following not playing

    Hartley, Mathieson, hall, Currie, tippa

    Any suggestions

    • I would look to downgrade 1 and upgrade 1 non playing to 2 playing … with thoughts to bye rounds … a few bargains around and some new rookies on offer

    • Hartley Mathieson and tippa before hall and currie

  • Collins or Jenson?

I will bring one in. Thoughts on who?

  • keeping Hall (for now) … Tippa to I.Smith (fwd) and Ruggles to Suckers (def) this week … T.Phillips is worth a punt as a downgrade option me thinks … will slot him in as a downgrade next week I hope

  • Mcveigh suckers or Hanley??

  • hall to wells mills to rocky ?? or
hall to merret and clay cameron to 125k?

  • Who is priority to trade 1st… Tippa or Ruggles?

  • Has Tom Phillips been picked to play? Or could he get omitted?

  • Thoughts on these trades
Anthony McDonald > Rockliff (via josh smith moving to defence)
    Hall > suckling

  • 1. Macpherson & hall -> Rockliff & hams
    2. Hall & tipp -> vince & wells
    3. Tippa & Macpherson -> Phillips & laird

  • Hey guys what’s your thoughts, I have one more premo midfield spot to fill.
Who should I bring in out of:
    A. Hannas
    B. Hunter
    C. Treloar
    D. TItchell
    E. Ward

    • Go Ward for a POD, only way to go up in rankings/ definitively beat league opponents is to go for a differential. Follow the herd and you will be stagnant!
GWS playing great footy this year and the mids are sharing it round beautifully!

    • hanners, titch, teloar, hunter and ward in that order imo

  • Halp!

My team before any trades with only 5k in the bank:

D: Shaw, Doch, Trengove, Collins, J. Lonergan, Laird – Bench: Tippa & Ruggles
    M:T Greene, L. Hunter, J Macrae, J. Lewis, M. Duncan, G Abblett, J Hopper, T Mitchell – Bench: Mathieson & Keays
R: Leuenberger, Martin- Bench: Currie & Frost
    F: M Barlow, J Hunt, R Davis, L Montagna, S Kerridge, D Martin – Bench: L. Sumner, A. Hall

I would really like to get Rocky in, but Hall has left a gaping hole in my forward line – really stuck – would be grateful for any help
