AFL Teams 2016: Round 4

Matt Priddis is a late for game tonight. Hutchings in. Tigers no change.

Sunday Benches have been selected. We already knew Jayden Hunt (Fwd. $125,000 AF $128,200 DT) was going to debut, and this is confirmed. Unfortunately Mason Cox (Fwd/Ruck) or Darcy Tucker (Def.) didnt make it. Neither did Matthew Goodyear (Mid.) or Brent Macaffer (Mid.). Make sure you check late changes tonight before lockout for Eagles vs Tigers.

Important times to remember:

Round 4 teams have been named. Big in for the swans with premium defender Jarrad McVeigh (Def/Mid) being named (at the cost of George Hewett(Mid.)). A few sweating over Daniel Rich (Def/Mid) will be happy to see him back (But no Rocky). Josh Gibson (Def) who has been gunning it is a bit of a shock out with hamstring tightness. (We do know hawks like to rest their stars), but hawks captain Luke Hodge (mid) is back. A few had Corey Enright (Def.) as a POD who is being definitely managed.
Wait for Sunday benches to be selected tomorrow for a few new rookie options, including possibly Mason Cox (Ruck/Fwd.), and another in Darcy Tucker (Def.)
Popular fwd rookie Lincoln McCarthy (Fwd) is also omitted. Hamish Hartlett (Mid.), Chad Wingard (Fwd.) are back in for port, and Steele Sidebottom (Mid) back from suspension.

Brady Grey (Mid. $244,000 AF, $226,100 DT)

Round 4 Teams will be named ~6:15pm tonight. It was a absolute shame to watch veteran Robert Murphy (Def) go out with a serious knee injury. He was playing great football with his rejuvenated Doggies. Dees already announced a new rookie debut with Jayden Hunt (Fwd. $125,000 AF $128,200 DT). Devon Smith (Mid/Fwd) and Will Hoskin-Elliot (Fwd.) ruled out for GWS. Popular ruck bench rookie Mason Cox (Ruck/Mid. $125,000 AF $121,300 DT) has been upgraded from rookie lists, as has bomber Conor McKenna (Fwd. $210,000 AF $206,900 DT). Will they be a surprise inclusion? Christian Petracca (Fwd/Mid.) is confirmed to not play this week.
25 changes to Fri/Sat teams and 10 confirmed outs for Sunday.

Conor McKenna (Fwd. $210,000 AF $206,900 DT)

Jayden Hunt (Fwd. $125,000 AF $128,200 DT)

Shag’s Pick

Shane Mumford (Ruck. $484,000 AF be 82, $526,500 be 84 DT) with weak rucks going around had a handy 114 last week. It could have been simply that injuries were keeping him down and now he’s ready to be a top ruck. He’s pretty close to bottomed out if you need a new ruck, he could be on the up again!

Sam Frost (Fwd/Ruck. $150,000 AF $206,800 DT)
Josh Wagner (Def. $130,000 AF $125,300 DT)

Shag’s Pick

Steele Sidebottom (Mid. $555,000 AF $ 591,300 DT) with a Pendles playing more as back should be thrust straight into the midfield. In my opinion Sidey’s Absence is one of the big reasons pies have been poor. Big chance of going huge against the dees.

Do Freo play rookies?

Shag’s Pick

Todd Goldstein (Ruck. $601,000 be 105 AF $643,700 be 146 DT ) has dropped a bit of value because of his 62, but proved again he can score huge following up with 149. He plays a Sandiless Freo this week making many believe he could go huge again. You could wait one more week (or 2 in RDT) to make sure he bottoms out.

Daniel Rioli (Fwd. $207,000, 23 be AF. $161,800 be -9 bubble DT)

Shag’s Pick

Bachar Houli (Def $510,000 be 49 AF $531,100 be 35) had a huge 140, and he simply seems to junk it up. Looks to be a top 6 defender, if you havet got him with a low BE he may not stay this price.

Tom Ruggles (Def. $148,000 -11 be AF. $105,800 DT)

Shag’s Pick

Am I allowed to pick the same player two weeks in a row. Absolutely. Tom Ruggles (Def. $148,000 -11 be AF. $105,800 DT) 76 was very solid, and reports are that he is top 22 for the cats. He should also score well you would hope again against the dons. If you are a conservative trader and were waiting on a first score, now is the week to bring him in, for RDT hold 1 more week. NB: Ruggles is an awesome name for a “Cat”.

Darren Minchington (Fwd. $232,000, be 27 AF. $277,100, DT)

Shag’s Pick

Well didnt Leigh Montagna (Mid/Fwd $608,000 AF $ 641,400 DT) prove to those that thought his age was a concern, and that he is overpriced. Indeed his price is increasing. He looks an absolute certainty at this point for top 6 fwd (If his body holds out). He is still really expensive so many will wait, and hope, he has an off game to get him in.

Shag’s Pick

Was hoping Keays or Jansen would get a game and be an obvious trade in option, but alas. So, its a Captain Obvious call again. How bloody good is Aaron Hall (Mid/Fwd. $525,000 AF $516,700 DT). You gotta trade him in if for some reason you don’t already have him in your team (He won’t get any cheaper.) Put a big C on him too.

Shag’s Pick

byrne sumner

Well, blues are where the rookies are. So going to have two picks here, one for defence and one for mid/fwd. Ciaran Byrne (Def. $145,000, -7 be AF. $144,900 DT) did enough with a 69 to be a solid def rookie trade in. Many are going Ruggles instead, however Ruggles wont play Brissy every week. Hold 1 more week in RDT A new rookie Liam Sumner (Mid/Fwd. $133,000 AF $ 128,200 DT) is in the mix. He is straight in the team after recovering from an injury, which I think is a great sign for his JS (Maybe he was always part of Blues top 22 plans). Quite a few will be looking for a mid rookie downgrade, and he seems to be a good option. Conservative types will want to see one week.
Just as a side note Daisy Thomas (Mid/Fwd. RDT $264,300) is on the bubble in RDT and looks to be a pretty good option.

Shag’s Pick

Great to see veteran Jarrad McVeigh (Def/Mid. $538,000 AF $563,500) return. Many would automatically predict him to be a top 6 defender. I’d hold off 1 week (a couple in RDT) to see his form first. Gives us another option to bolster our backlines.

  • Put the C on Hall and score 2200 this week! Like I did eh Shags? :P

  • hey fellas.

What do you guys think of a double downgrade like
    Brown – Ruggles
    Hewitt – Sumner

    or get a solid mid pricer;

    Brown – Ruggles
    Hewitt – Mitch Duncan ??

    Cheers boys!

  • Get in Scully, Duncan or Zaharakis?

  • Looking at trading out either Viney or Cripps so that i can bring in either Ellis or Montagna. Any thoughts on which way to go… its doing my head in. Any reason to get rid of one instead of the other?

    • Monty will most likely be top 6 fwd. But he is Sooooooo expensive.

I reckon there is better value out there.

Saints play Hawks this week, and its less likely monty will go as huge (he prolly will to spite me).

    • I thought Monty was priced at his top so have been waiting for an off game… now I’ll have to wait at least 3 till that 160 goes from his rolling average*

      * Do they still do that?

  • A bit of a backward step this week to give me some money next week for upgrades.

D: Shaw, Rich, Adams, Dea, Cameron, Ruggles (Harwood, Hartley)
M: Titch, Ablett, Hannerbery, Adams, Duncan, B.Kennedy, Lonergan, Davis (Mills, Sumner)
    R: S.Martin, Jacobs (Cox, Currie)
F: Barlow, Hall, Gray, Kerridge, Wells, Menadue (Kent, McCarthy)

Hewett and B.Crouch –> Ruggles and Sumner. Gives me 450k next week for upgrades.

  • Great work as always Shags.

Just a warning sign to people upgrading to Houli, he at his maximum price. Buy low, sell high? Don’t get your hope up, he isn’t going to knock out 140 and 110 every week. Think long-term. Should you get him at his maximum price, or double downgrade. By double downgrading, could you pick him up at a cheaper price, and maybe snag a DPP defender for the same price e.g. Bellis?

    • Even worse for Monty. I like the B.Ellis risk (he seems a very good chance for DPP).

I wouldnt mind seeing the updated cumulative heatmap for him including this weeks game as well (He seemed to play more in midfield this week).

  • Hiya guys,
I’ve got a query that I want answered,
Now it sounds a bit obvious to some but I’m wondering, who do I trade out. Zac Smith or Sam Gray
Now when I ask this, if I trade Smith I can get Mumford. Otherwise if I trade Gray out, I get Zach Merret/ Dalhaus/ any other Premo Forward, (besides Montagna).
    Already have Dusty and Hall,
    Thoughts guys ??

    • I think S.Gray has more upside.
Z.Smith is playing bombers though this week. Can you aim to chase Goldi?

  • What’s the better trade lads?

    Hewett to Sumner
    Lonergan/Sheridan to Rosa?

    • I think Hewett to Sumner would be more beneficial in the long run assuming he holds his spot

    • Im trying to work out whether to trade mcCarthy coz hes not playing or mills who has a break even of 40 and looks like he stuggles to score anythyn over 50 Or 3rd option do i downgrade barlow to a rookie via dpp action and load up for a double upgrade next week?

  • Hey guys would you have tippa or howe on your field

  • Trade McCarthy?

  • Cutler > Ruggles?
or Hewett/ Mccarthy out via DPP for Ruggles?

  • Tippa or Ruggles on field?

  • Who would you trade out of Harwood and Howe in order to get ruggles?

  • Please i need some help/thoughts

    Currently my team is

Def: Laird, k.simpson, johannisen, weitering, dea, ruggles (byrne, hartley)

Mid: ablett, s.mitchell, danger, r.gray, parker, zaha, parish, r.davis (goodyear, hewett)

    Ruc: s.martin, tippett (pittonet, cox)

Fwd: z.merrett, hall, wells, m.adams, papley, mcgovern (short, kommer)

Now i am sick of looking at martin and given goldy is up against freo without sandi im thinking of downgrading someone to get the cash needed to bring goldy in (given other bad choices i only have 4k in reserve)

If i trade out simpson and martin i can get in goldy and im thinking rosa.

I feel this is a double edged sword option as i have a couple of non-playing rookies but in order to bring goldy in i need to downgrade somebody. I am just fed up with how pathetic martin is looking on field and want him out asap.

    • I cant help but feel S.martin can bounce back. Goldi did score 65 the week before.

Its a luxury trade, but could give you dividends if you are right and s.martin really is the flop of the year.

      • harsh. he has had three of the hardest matchups in rounds 1-3. smartin will bounce back this week.

        • Martin now has a breakeven of 135 given his performances, and yes he has had tough matchups, he just isn’t playing like the premo he was last year. Worries me he isn’t that set and forget player that we all expected him to be

      • Im sure he could/should bounce back but it may come at the risk of more value loss, if i get him out briefly now bringing him back shouldn’t be too challenging in several weeks. I still can’t decide how im going to go about it yet. But id hate to lose another 70 points because i kept him when i had options.

I love and hate this game at times haha.

  • Any chance Hewett gets named in the following rounds or is he just not top 22?

  • Who would you get:

    1. Sitchell
    2. Titchell
    3. Zerritt
    4. Mont
    5. L Parker
    6. J Steven

    upgrading Mills. Thanks

    • Titchell is a must

    • Tom Mitchell and captain him. His first ever afl game was vs the crows and from memory he scored 140 odd

      • He score something like a 98 in his first game, as a sub (from 3 quarters only).

The following week, he pumped out a 140-odd score.

I remember only cause I was remember being bitter, being one of the few who missed out on these scores.

    • I’m almost in the exact same dilemma! I like all of them but I’m leaning towards Steven or Monty (mainly for his DPP).

  • Field Ruggles or Cameron !??!

  • First trade is pretty much locked in. Cutler > Ruggles. Bit unsure with my second trade though. Thoughts?

    Hewett > Duncan + $45k
Hewett > Sumner + $337k (cash used to get a premo mid in next week)

Only downside to both of these trades in that I still have McCarthy on the bench. Need to trade him instead?

  • Bring in Ruggles or Sumner this week???

  • Rich for JJ/laird
Or Barlow for Merrett ? Was 1k away from Stevens

  • Trades have been thrown in the air now’
Barlow always named on bench but he is now listed last on bench and the others on the bench (Suban, Weller and Taberner are pretty much guaranteed to play) and Tucker likely leaving Barlow to miss this week
We wont know before lock out so reluctantly he may have to go this week

    • you will know before lockout and Barlow will play..I still think you should trade him out anyway. This has a 60-70 written all over it..

      • Trade him to Z Merret (got Geelong but low BE and top6 FWD)or Put Luey in Fwds (maybe on bench for Kent on field) for 1 week and trade him to Goldy (probably more points)?

    • Why won’t you know before lockout? Final Sunday teams will be announced a good 3 hours before lockout this week.

      • work normally stops me from making last minute changes and Ross is likely to do changes with bench players anyway

        • Barlow will have to play since Mundy is out and Barlow is tall enough to even play a little ruck role. (He did last week)

  • Bugger it just gonna do a ddg and get Ruggles and Byrne and pocket 200k. McCarthy and Hewett out

  • Field Ruggles, Cameron or Tippa this week

  • Im trying to work out whether to trade mcCarthy coz hes not playing or mills who has a break even of 40 and looks like he stuggles to score anythyn over 50 or do i down grade purple crab barlow to a rookie via some dpp and spend up next week on a double upgrade?

  • which 2 to field out of MID:Caff, menadue, davis, mills ?
    DEF: Hartley,byrne,dea,cameron ?

  • Personally hope Tucker doesn’t make the team yet. Too many def rookie options as there are.

Cox on the other hand, damn happy if he makes the cut as I went Him over Currie.

To think I could have had Currie on my bench all year for third year running…

  • Ruggles in for D Howe
    Z Merret in for Libba
Leaves me 182k in the bank

    • Id love to see the rest of your team as those trades seem super luxury. Libba hasnt bee terrible, and Howe is named.

  • Masox Cox in!! Never thought I’d see the day!

  • Ruggles or sumner ???

  • Hey guys just a little confused on wether Martin is going to play this week???

    • He is playing.

The club allowed/allows him to travel to NZ during the week so at the moment he won’t miss any games due to visiting his father.

      • also he has a green dot
and in this game (of fantasy) the green dot represents your life.
Your green dot is gone, so are you.

  • I am in the US at the moment and having too much fun so research happening can someone help with this weeks trades.

Houli, shaw, m Adams, Cameron, dea, lonergan (tippa, Hartley)
Titch, Ablett, hunter, b Ellis, danger, t Adams, menadue, Davis (mills, hewett)
    Gawn, Jacobs (cox, Currie)
Hall, s gray, wells, kerridge, Barlow, Kent (McCarthy, kommer)

    173k in bank too

    • G’day Jay

Welcome to my new homeland – hope you’re having a great time
I’m living in Santa Monica now originally Melbourne
Enough of the crap let’s get the trades done
      Trade out Hewett/Kommer both duds
Move Walla (Tippa) to the forward line play him over Kent and leave McCartney to next week
Move Lonergan to the midfield to cover that gap
You should now need two back man bring in the following Ruggles – Byrne – Tucker
I prefer the 1st and 3rd options but it’s up to you
Tucker needs to be named on extended bench at moment
Sunday’s teams are announced around midnight on the West Coast
      Enjoy the holiday😎

      • Thanks thebopper58 we are enjoying holiday at Disneyland and then Vegas this weekend, like your options you are putting forth

  • Play howe or menadue on the ground?

  • So far gone –
Barlow and Hewett to Goldy and Ruggles leaving $177k
(Luey to Fwds and Rich to mid)
    Good trades or not?

Hewett to Ruggles seem set but second trade not. Wanting Zerrett as well (have $213k left instead) or MCarthy to Sumner ($248keft) or Lonergan to Sumner or Byrne.

Have Lonergan, Mills, Harwood (should all make a little cash and playing), McCarthy (I think only 1 week out

Basically can take anyone in any position with all my DPP’s and set up

  • Double downgrade for me this week, Hewett and McCarthy out, Sumner and Ruggles in. $263k to spend next week! Now we play the game of ‘which rookie do I field’?!

1 of Ruggles, Cameron or Hartley in DEF?

1 of Menadue, Davis or Mills in MID?

    • Ruggles, has Essendon
If you want to take a chance Mills, Mcveigh is back and it may free up Mills, if not Menadue.

  • Should I get titch or Parker?

    • Both are great, I owned both last year but started with T.Mitchell and not Parker this season. I reckon he edges out Parker just for bigger scoring potential.
