Dream Team Extra: Rd 22

Only two rounds left! With only one league to play for, I’m looking forward to the relief of the off-season. But a few of you are still alive and kicking in your big leagues as we head into the Preliminary Finals. The problem we face this week is the lottery that is pre-AFL finals general soreness. Let’s have a look at what’s been doing the rounds this week…

Mitch To Miss?

Here’s a scary bit of goss (shared by our own @JeppaDT) to get the blood pressure rising at the end of hump day:

I don’t know whether this will eventuate or not, but for some it’s going to sort out those ‘who to play out of…’ questions come lockout tomorrow night. It’s not ideal though, as you’d expect Robbo to run amok against the Suns and bring home a decent score for your prelim final match. Make sure you have a FWD EMG handy…

Bud & Sam

Buddy’s hogged the headlines this week, with more positive news than negative, which leads most to believe that he’ll be up and about. Good news if you need him to fire up for you. Hopefully he won’t be abducted by aliens pre-match for a late withdrawl. His usually trusty sidekick, Sammy Mitchell, is rated as a starter this week too after being withdrawn last week with what looks like a genuine calf injury. However, it’s not all great news as he’s not 100% guaranteed to take to the park, so I hope you have a MID EMG, just in case.

Sweep The Knee?

So it was more of a knock than a Cobra Kai-style sweep, but someone gave Pendles’ knee a hard time at training yesterday and it sent the twittersphere into mini-meltdown. Well, for about 10 minutes anyway. Scotty himself brushed it off and sent out this reassuring tweet last night:

I wouldn’t sweat on it too much as he did get back on his feet. In other Pie-related news, Swannie is back this week and it’ll be a tough call between him and Gazza for your captaincy. My gut feel is that Swan will go big, but it’s hard to jump of Ablett after last week’s performance!

Calling 211

Big Toe himself is back, getting a last-minute call-up last weekend in somewhat controversial circumstances. Ross Lyin aside, there are a few punters who are still spewing at the loss of Jon Griffin for their semi-finals. However, if you have a trade spare and not much cash, a Griffin to Sandi trade isn’t the silliest idea given that Freo square off against North and then Melbourne. The big unit should be right against Goldy and then hopefully go beserk against the Dees at home in Perth.

Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Trading? Heard any juicy news bits, gossip or rumours? Got a rant or a rave? Stick it in the comments and let’s get some healthy chatter going ahead of team lists tonight. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!

Any questions, suggestions, general chit-chat or requests for next week’s #DTExtra?

  • Mitchell surely too risky to pick with Swans followed by West Coast.

    • People seem to focus too much on who the team is playing with dream team. Elite mids score well no matter who they’re playing. Take Abletts last fortnight for example. 99 against the lowly Giants but 175 against premiership favourites in Hawthorn.
Don’t put too much focus on who they’re playing is my advice.
      GK has spoken…

      • Good call. Unless they are playing Fremantle…

      • I think it’s more how likely the opposition wil go all out, lockdown tag than where they are on the ladder. It seems Carlton had lots of taggers last week but won’t always. I agree that some teams (eg Freo) will tag-tag-tag but others (Collingwood, Hawthorn?) will back their premos to do better than the opposition’s premo, like Ablett, and not bother with him so much. Goes to show that some teams will not feature in my DT defence next year!

  • Great. There are simply too many players that could go and late withdraw on me this week.

Buddy, Robbo, any Cats players (especially Chappy, but Jelwood and Stevie J ), Fyfe, Dangerfield (more a simple resting threat).

    Grrr….on edge.

    • Tempted to slot all fwd risks in my fwd line and name two emergencies.

      • Interesting idea but wouldn’t your fwd bench players both have to be pretty good given the lower scoring counts first?

        • Got pinged by this last week. Was a bit worried about my FWDs so I set two emergencies.

Buddy’s sit out gave me Couch’s 25 points. while Dickson’s 75 sat there unused.

        • I would have both Robbo and Martin as the bench warmers. .. but robbo is possibly not even playing.

  • Dean Cox has played every game this year and with Jolly out and Kennedy to slot back into the forward line…? Surely not against Collingwood.

    • Surely not indeed. Isn’t “resting” just one way of managing a player’s workload – especially if his form dropping off? Haven’t the Weagles been doing for Dean Cox another way? Like keeping his ruck load down and less stressful forward time up? He’s been thriving and scoring well so why should they change now? Also the thought of giving Collingwood a good spanking and cementing in home finals comes into it to. Unless he’s nominated as an early out, he stays on my field.

      • sorry mate but this is rediculous.

west coast are about to play the biggest game of their season. If Cox had a missing leg, west coast would still give him until the last minute to come good ( they may even ask for permission for Ashton hams or Ryan Neates to actually play as Dean Cox’s leg).

Thats how little chance I think Cox has of missing this game with an injury.

if he does miss, well he’s probably missing both legs, and it would likely keep him out for more than 1 week.

  • Which two to play out of Franklin, Martin and Zaharakis??

    • Franklin for sure. Martin will get about 70 80, zaha really didnt look too good last game, maybe hasnt come off injury too well.

  • Sorry, but where did all this nonsense about cox being rested come from? The eagles have to beat collingwood if they want to be a shot to secure a top 4 berth.

Unless he has a legitimate injury, cox will play, it would be absolutely nuts to rest a key player for a game like this.

We are in a better position this year than any other in that there is still so much to play for for all of the top sides in the last two rounds of the year. Two wins or two losses in these last two rounds could mean the difference between a double chance or missing the finals.

With the exception of Adelaide, i think it’s very unlikely real key players are going to get the general soreness treatment in these next two weeks.

    • Was about to write this exact thing until i read this.
Eagles winning this game is there only hope of finishing top 4. If they lose Collingwood go 2 ahead. Why on earth would they rest there best player??? Even if he were injured they would surely do everything in their power to put him on the park.

  • This is from SEN earlier today… listen out for the cameo from Roy!

    PART 1 – http://t.co/4XLZcJBy
    PART 2 – http://t.co/zGzyDyCO

  • carrots been sitting on a few lately, reckon he’ll go to ablett, putting the C on Swan

  • Swan Captain (Maybe Stevie j for a risk). Hoping all of Pendles, Mitchell, Franklin and Robbo play…

  • I heard Karl Langdon last night and he was very confident that Robbo would be named (but not play) – based on this should I trade him out if I have Buddy in my team as well?

  • 2 big decisions:

    1. Which 2 should I play out of:
    Thompson (v MEL @MCG)
    Pendles (v WCE @Paterson’s)
    Gibson (v FRE @Etihad)

    2. Which one should I trade in:
    Dangerfiedl (MEL, GCS)
    Stevie J (WB, SYD)

    • I would probably play pendles and thompson and then have gibson as emergency. Im probably going to play gibson over mitchell this week though.

Im trading Stevie J in this week but I already have dangerfield. Stevie J is cheaper and less likely to be rested imo. Plus Calvin reckons Stevie J is in for a big one this week!

    • Thompson & Pendles if Thompson is named.

Stevie J is less likely to get a rest as he has already had a few weeks off during the season and Geelong is more precariously placed on the ladder and facing better opposition than Adelaide.

  • spurr or lake on field?

    martin or zorko on field?

    rocky or zorko on field?

  • Which forward should I trade in this week for under $450,000? I’m considering Goodes or Boomer Harvey at the moment.

  • alright… my one trade is robbo>simpson

which 2 should I field between buddy, martin and zorko?

  • Jelwood out!

    Cotchin? Murphy? for last trade?

    OR

Keep Jelwood and trade Shiel for Fyfe?

  • 2 close games this week and I need to make my mind up.

Stanton or Gibson on the field?
