Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 20

Not Looking Good

I’m tipping a low scoring round this week and these guys have poor records that are very concerning. NOW… these guys are still guns, but I’m just letting you know what the stats are:

With the Pies playing at ANZ against the dominating Sydney Swans my alarm bells are ringing. Sydney have only given up 8×100+ scores in the last 4 weeks and have been on fire. Swan is out, which means everyone moves up the list for a tag. Scott Pendlebury has only scored 2×100+ on the Swans in his career of 10 games but did have 107 last time they met with a tag from Bolton. In that game, Steele Sidebottom had his worst score for the 2011 season (51). Brett Deledio plays the Bulldogs who are his worst team by a mile to score DT points on. He has just 1×100+ score on them in his 10 games against them and that was way back in 2006. Matthew Boyd did score his best score ever score on the Tigers in his last game against them… but that was only 115 and he has played them 12 times! Boyd has only played at the MCG once this year and only managed 84. Then we have  Scott Thompson who was tagged by Crowley last time he played the Dockers. That was in Rd. 10 this year when he only had 18d for 65pts, plus he hasn’t cracked a ton in the last 3 weeks this year! ARRRGGG!

On the other hand…  Dayne Beams didn’t play the Swans last year and has been in smashing form with a lowest score of just 113 in his last 4 this year and Patrick Dangerfield  is a smokey who should also be ok this week. He had 110 (32d) in that Rd. 10 game this year against Richmond and is coming off previous scores of 130, 111 and 118. Then we have Jobe Watson who had 110 in his Rd. 1 match against the Roos and has been in good form with a low of 108 in his last 4 and under the roof of Etihad, he should be pretty good!

With all that said… I have named up some bloody guns there and they should be ok (based on some kind of form), but you have been warned as their history isn’t that great!

Before Swan was ruled out… I was very 50/50 in my call between the two guns of the DT world. But on Monday night (before Swan was out) I had made my call and I was going with Gazza this week as my number one. Gutsy call for sure after Swanny has averaged 133 in his last 5 but playing Sydney in Sydney was going to be tough. Anyway, the decision has been made now and this week it is an absolute no brainer and you must go with Gary Ablett and here is the reasons why he was always getting my top spot this week.

  • He plays GWS, a team that has given up 17×100+ scores in the last 4 weeks which even takes into account that they gave Power none last week. So basically, 17 in the 3 weeks before that!
  • He had 106 on the Giants in Rd. 7 this year and had 33d. Not the best score… but he did it after having those two weeks off with a knee injury and was obviously under done. He had 42pts in the first quarter and faded out from there. The tag of Shiel didn’t help but Gaz is flying at the moment and is obviously untaggable.
  • As I just said, his form is wicked! Has a lowest score of just 128 in his last 4 games and averages 142 in his last 3 (Swan avg. 148 in his last 3 though).
  • The Suns must win this game! It is so important to their franchise not to lose to these guys again and he will be fighting his little heart out to get it done.
  • The game is at Metricon where he has had 152 and 143 in his last 2 games there! The Rd. 7 game was at Manuka Oval.
  • Gazza is now tackling. In the last game against the Giants he had just 2 tackles. Compare that to the 21 he has had in the last 3 weeks and you can see my point.

Enough said… clearly a no brainer this week and even if he does mess up… everyone will have him! I’m tipping a 160+ from the little master this week! Good luck and I will see you all in round 21.

Lock it in if you’ve got the plums

    • No thanks. I need a win.

      • vs Big O this week.. who is
        a) terrible
        b) has no backup
        c) can’t run out half a game

Easily 30+ each for both Coxy and NicNat from hitouts alone. Not to mention all of the marks and the bag of goals he is due to kick..

When Ablett goes down with a knee 30 seconds in, you’ll thank me :D

      • A lazy 147, plus $50 on first goal at 12/1. I love that man.

    • He has been in doubt with an injury so would be a risk

    • Thoughts on Lids? Playing the Doggies at the Dome.

  • Taking a chance on Buddy! Surprised he didn’t get a mention,

    • He didn’t get a mention because he is a monty to wear the red vest at some stage in the 3rd qtr.

  • Gazza is always my C!

  • I wonder if there’s actually gonna be anyone that DOESN’T have Ablett as captain this round.. it wouldnt surprise me

  • :’) Got all five of them

Going Gary, because the person who I’m playing doesn’t even have him,
Maybe Swanny’s night out was a blessing in disguise.

    200 for GAJ!

  • Patty Dangerfield im putting my trust into him

  • Feel like taking a punt on Jobe, but seeing as it’s finals doubt I’ll be doing that.

  • beams or watson for swan

    • I have the same dilemma, slightly leaning towards Jobe at this stage. With Swan out, Beams is almost a certainty to get tagged against the Swans.

  • Anyone think Picken will go to Cotchin instead of lids ?

And if he does, will he cope ? Not putting him as captain but I have him.

  • Its pretty simple, if you dont have Ablett captain then you dont have Ablett….and your a moron

  • Got enough cash and 6 trades left!
Used one trade already for Swan.
Should I trade Lake or should I upgrade to a good forward?
    Cheers

    • In the same boat – what to do with Lake.
He looks like he’s copping some pressure and isn’t kicking anywhere near as much as he needs to, to be relelvant in DT.

Honestly, looking at the replacement options – no backmen are really putting their hands up that I haven’t already got!!!

  • “Brent will be closely monitored this week as his body recovers from general soreness. The club is hopeful Brent will be available this week.”

    lets hope he plays eh?

  • This could be stupid, but contemplating trading swan to pav and rockliff to boyd.

I know it’s risky but i don’t have the luxury of a second chance, there’s no use saving trades for next week if there isn’t one…

  • Hurn vs. MJ

    Watson vs. Pendlebury

    Mitchell vs. Priddis

    Greene vs. Rockliff

    Magner vs. Gibson

    Cox vs. Mumford

    Roughead vs. Franklin

    Lewis vs. Dangerfield

Would you rather be the team on the left or the right?

    • The team on the right especially as Greene is out this week.

    • —->

    • Right for sure

    • Left if you have decent cover for Greene

      • Left 731.55 vs Right 752.16

Franklin a possible candidate for the rest vest, Pendles playing Swannies… If the left team has similar cover for Greene then I’d back left. RHS probably the better ceiling, but left for consistency.

    • Ok awesome that’s me – vs. Nick Maxwell in one of my qualifying finals. I’m keeping Swan, wonder if he will trade? If so then Greene/Magner will become someone much better.

  • Dangermouse is in the top 5, what a lege! Im still going GAJ though. Domination

  • If you don’t have ablett trade swan to ablett now, then make him captain. If you don’t have Ablett or Swan you are not doing DT right, try again next year.

  • Dear DT heirarchy PLEASE ban this skull idiot. Theres kids who get on this site too and I’m over his psychotic abusive rants. The moron can’t even tone his language down.

    • Nah – SKULL is proof that the education system works for even the stupidest individuals in society.
      Well done teachers.
SKULL must make you all proud.

  • Well it’s fair to say all teams are playing it safe and putting the C on Gaz

  • warnie/ Boys – i agree with the other guys – can we please get rid of skull from this site – thanks to you and the boys it makes DT great to play and we dont need people like skull on the site – i know its hard to police all comments – up watching the OG

  • I think Deledio will be good this week. Playing the Bulldogs at the MCG where he has posted some big numbers. I disagree with Calvin. You can’t really look at his numbers in previous years, when he was playing more out of defence. A good option in my opinion.

Too hard not to go Ablett though. The safest option this week. But sometimes it’s just not fun playing it safe :-)

  • Good Stuff Vin. Ablett the obvious choice for me. If it wasn’t Franklins first week back he’d be a solid choice too. Also good to see the great man Skull back. Just cementing his place in the upper echelon of DT Talk Flogdum…

  • I think Skull is entertaining. His rants and abuse is at least better thought out than most trolls I’ve seen.

If you are going to ban someone for crude language or grieving then 90% of us should also be on that list. The internet isn’t a place for naivety or sensitivity I’m afraid :)

    • Yes Gazinator, you are right, clearly a lot of thought went into these pearlers…

      a) “Fuck off you fucking idiot”
      b) A Dean Cox “cocks” pun
      c) a Simpsons reference…

Comic genius at work, the world needs more of that.

  • o_O what ?
