Deck of Dream Team 2012: Starts Saturday

The third annual Deck of Dream Team starts this Saturday on www.dreamteamtalk.com. Join Roy, Calvin, Warnie, tbetta, Dunny and TeeTee as we look at 52 players over 52 days and our thoughts on whether you should be picking them in your AFL Dream Teams for 2012.

Players will be ranked as either an Ace, King, Queen or Jack. With the Ace being the must have premiums through to cash cow/risky picks names as Jacks.

If you have a suggestion for players to be included in the Deck, let us know here in the comments or hit the boys up on Twitter. Each writer is responsible for different clubs. Hit them up below.

Roy@RoyDT – Carlton, Brisbane, Western Bulldogs
Calvin@CalvinDT – Collingwood, Sydney, Gold Coast
Warnie@WarnieDT – Essendon, Melbourne, Richmond
Tbetta@tbetta9 – West Coast, Fremantle, GWS
Dunny@pkd73 – Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Hawthorn
Tee Tee@TeeTeeDT – North Melbourne, Geelong, St Kilda

Here’s to a massive pre-season!

  • Cant wait guys!!! and Fanfooty has changed some of the prices on players- are these now true and correct?

    • No prices are true and correct as yet as VS haven’t done them yet! They’ll finish all of that off in the next couple of weeks before we get access to the official planner thanks to Assistant Coach! Can’t wait for that!

      • Nice early xmas present and those tight arse’s that didn’t fork out 20 bucks will be spewing…..bahahaha

        • All I wish in my life is that I forked out the $20 last season lol
I’m hoping Monty mirrors it on his fan planner when he gets hold of it!

          • If he doesn’t, I’m sure we will get the pre-season version of “What is player x’s b/e on assistant coach” anyway.

          • I didn’t pay it because I didn’t think it was sporting! I wanted to do my own research. Now, I would pay $100!

  • Fantastic!- Only 4 sleeps to go!

  • Could put Ziebell, J Brown, Zaha, most of Adelaide, Allen Christensen, Waters, Grimes, J Roo, N Roo, gah SO MANY PLAYERS!!!

    • Well I can only do 3 Adelaide players Stew42, so hopefully I pick the ones you are most interested in. HINT: 13 Dec will see an Adelaide player in the Deck!

  • wouldn’t mind seeing a write up on swans new recruit Tommy Gun. cheers calv.

  • G’day DT Talk team,

    Some suggestions:

HMac (poor man’s version of a Petrie 2011 comeback?), Kreuzer, Dayne Zorko, Sidebottom, Fyfey, Kane Lucas (is he a smokey to make it back into Blues regular 22?), Burgoyne (MPP possibility, is he past it?), Hurley, Ryder (where is Hirdy going to play him?), Boak (Port will be shite and so will Travis??), Wingard, Didak (game passed him by or will he be back to premium status in 2012?) …

    cheers,
    j959

    • So many dt relevant players at Collingwood. Apart from the obvious proven dt stars: Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas and Cloke, people will have a think about Beams and Sidebottom in the mid-price range and Marty Clarke and Didak who will be cheap. I hope Didak gets a write up because he is definitely a player who could make or break your team. He had a poor pre-season last year and was on the periphery all season and was subbed and started sub often. Not only does this muller your weekly score, it cruels your ability for you to trade/upgrade. Depending on VS’s approach to deal with the muliti-bye rounds and considering popular picks Cloke, Fyfe, Johnson, Zaharakis, etc are all in the same line, Didak poses a very interesting dilemma this year.

  • Suggestions: Leuenberger, Mumford, Dyson Heppell, Zaharakis

  • More suggestions: Tony Armstrong, Jordan Lisle, Tommy Walsh, Mitch Clarke

  • Dahlhaus, Kreuzer and Jono Brown please Roy!!

  • As as suggestion…The ‘Come Back Premiums’…perhaps as one article..Brown, both Reiwoldts, Didak, Grimes, Waters, Hayes, Brown, Barlow even.. some others that don’t spring to mind. Pick some of these guys in the initial squad, given their probable juicy price, and they perform, have 15-16 premiums off the bat! Which players to risk?

    • If I get some time in the next few weeks I will see if I can put something together like this for you. Good suggestion.

    • Also Mundy as others have mentioned.
Brilliant idea and would certainly love to read that article, looking forward to it Dunny!

  • I’m interested to see what people think of paddy ryder?

  • Dempsey (averaged 72 last year before this years injury)
Bock (In second half of year back to his DT form he showed in Ade)
Stanton (Carrer best average of 106 and killed it in the second half of year)
    N. Riewoldt (Old and crippled? or New coach and improved team?)
Morabito (Full season out means good discount)

    • Rabbito has never racked up possies, even in his junior days. I think he might stay a low average forever.

  • Davis/Ward/Scully/Palmer

and the dad’s army of McDonald/Brogan/Cornes/Power

  • Would be interested in seeing some players who apply for the “third year” ruling. Such as L.Shuey, D.Martin, J.Trengove (melb) and B.Howlett

    • That is crap news. By that time I’ve had a few Friday beers and lost the edge. I need the five o’ clock team sheets god damn it.

  • Don’t bother putting Neon Leon down for Port.

    http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=126910

Looks like he will be out of the competition (unless he buckles and either becoes rookie listed, or is willing to live in Western Sydney). Quitting after winning all-australian selection: that’s what you call going out on top. Idiot.

  • First time,Loooooong time.Im coming for you TKOL.

  • @Tee Tee

    North Melbourne:
Cameron Pederson – Ave 71.4 (14 games, 18 goals) penciled in my team at the moment, showed a lot of promise for a first year player

    Geelong
Jimmy Bartel – Ave 95.9, lowest average for 5 years and many were talking that Bartel was past his best, love some expert advice

    St Kilda
Lenny Hayes – one of the best mids out there, coming back from a knee reco and in his 30’s now

    • I wouldn’t touch bartel with a 10 foot pole.

      07- 114
      08- 113
      09-109
      10- 105
      11- 97

if that doesn’t scream a dt slide I don’t know what does.

      • yeah im with ya, had him for the first half last year and said thats it for Bartel, a 97 average isnt exactly terrible though but yes he has dropped off every year. a ‘maybe’ on the price

      • Bartel for dpp status?

  • Roy,
would be interested to see your thoughts on Brian Lake.
I am surprised that so few have selected him in the squads that have been posted over the last few weeks. He was the GUN defender in 2010 along with Goddard, had a shocker last year due to injury and IF fit in 2012 would be (IMO) a certain starter in the backline. He will be as cheap as shit and could end up being one of the 6 defender keepers for the year.

    • +1, def in my team as it stands right now. fanfooty has him $240k (i know the price aint finalised yet). Averages 99 in 2010

      • well I only have room for either him or armstrong.

        • Lake is a lock for me. At that price if he fails I can catch a rookie on the up and up. And he has upside like tits.

  • Warnie’s throwing out twitter hints about next seasons set up and the dream team gold opening. Any more news? The suspense is killing me.

    • Yep as Rd 11 will mess up many ruck combos, Rd 12 will stuff up your Fwds even more. The overall ranking hunters will have teams structured right whilst not looking the prettiest on paper.

  • Please do one about Jared Brennan and Dustin martin and Colin Sylvia

  • Hey guys, looking forward to the annual Deck of DT – would be great if you could do some of these guys:

Adelaide – Jason Porplyzia, Ian Callinan, Mitchell Grigg
Brisbane – Tom Rocliff (we all know you’re dying to review this guy, Roy), Pearce Hanley, Sam Docherty
Carlton – Marc Murphy, Sam Rowe, Bryce Gibbs
Collingwood – Marty Clarke, Steele Sidebottom, Daisy Thomas
Essendon – Elliott Kavanagh, Dyson Heppell
Fremantle – Anthony Morabito, Matty Pavlich, Aaron Sandilands, Mickey Barlow
Gold Coast – Piers Flanagan, Zac Smith
Geelong – Joel Selwood, Orren (Big ‘O’) Stephenson, Trent West
Greater Western Syndey – Jonno Giles,
Hawthorn – Buddy Franklin, Sam Mitchell, Grant Birchall
Melbourne – Jack Trengove, Mitch Clark
North – Will Sierakowski, Brad McKenzie, Hamish MacIntosh
Port – Chad Wingard, Hamish Hartlett
Richmond – Brett Deledio, Stephen Morris, Jack Riewoldt
St. Kilda – Ahmed Saad, Beau Wilkes, Lenny Hayes
Sydney – Tommy Walsh, Adam Goodes, Tom Mitchell
    West Coast – Andrew Gaff
Western Bulldogs – Jason Tutt, Brian Lake, Clay Smith

I know there’s a lot there – but some really interesting picks there I’d like to get an expert opinion on – especially the unique picks. Not sure if you’ll be doing the rooks or whether Chook will be doing a preseason write up for them but those are some of the better ones IMO

    Cheers

    • WCE deserve more respect…c’mon they have a few worthy (Waters,Priddis,Shuey) to name a few.

      • Okay, so I agree with Waters and Coxy will be in a lot of teams – priddis is a solit premium but not worthy of our best 22 with others out there…

  • Great news. CP trade to Lakers put on hold. Possibly in jeopardy? Would be fantastic. F the Lakers.

Bee’s should send him to Clips to make then relevant again and throw oops to Blake. That’d be EPIC.

  • Re GWS tweet- Stephen Clifton???

  • @warnie roy and calvin – off topic a bit but are you guys doing a fantasy big bash league???

  • Deck of DT will pop up on my screen at about 5’o every day. Can’t wait. The dilemmas, the potential!

  • Calvin!
    Beams and Sidebottom named fwd/mid
Please do Beams or Sidebottom for Deck of Dream Team
    Beams, especially
