Calvin's Captains

Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 15

It’s round 15 and Calvin is back with the best AFL Fantasy captains in the land.

50 DISPOSALS = 177 POINTS

Last time Tom Mitchell played Collingwood just six weeks ago and on that day he scored 177pts from his 50 odd touches. It’s highly unlikely that the Pies will put anytime into Tom, as after the game Nathan Buckley came out and said he didn’t need to tag him as his disposals weren’t very effective. That’s fine by us Bucks.

Mitchell has averaged 132 in his last five games this year and prior to the 177 he had in round 9 on the Pies, he scored very solid scores of 132 and 138.

The negative here though is… the Pies haven’t allowed a single player to score over 120 against them in the last three weeks. To make matters worse, last week, not one Port Adelaide player cracked a ton. Ok… I know there’s a big difference here now that we are talking about a pig, but I thought you’d need to be aware of the stats.

HOT PIES

So at the moment, the Collingwood boys are showing everyone else how to play Fantasy. Steele Sidebottom ranks as the #3 guy in the game over the last three weeks and is coming off a 124 from last week. He scored 109 on the Hawks in round nine and was among the group of 8 players who cracked a ton on that day. Wow!

Adam Treloar was one of them with 126, and before that he posted 126, 108 and 120 against them. He has been on fire averaging 118 in his last 5 games, with a 122 last week. The Hawks are the second easiest team to score on at the moment though so you’d expect him to continue his hot form this week.

With 144pts in his last games against the Hawks, expect Scott Pendlebury to go well again after his 117 last week. They are one of his favourites to scores against along with Brodie Grundy who has scored 119 and 106 in his last two runs against the brown and gold.

THE No.1 DOCH

With scores of 126, 143 and 149 coming in his last three games, it’s no secret that Sam Docherty is the No.1 players in the game at the moment based on form. However, against the Crows … this one might be tougher.

Doch scored 98 against them last year and before that, he registered 97 and 72. Just like Dangerfield, this one doesn’t overly great. The positive I can see though, is that the Hawk’s defenders in Duryea (96pts) and Birchall (95pts) scored well last week (for their standards) taking 15 marks between them.

Doch’s Fantasy game flogs theirs though, but picking a captain against Adelaide is always tough but

DANGER SIGNS

He has served us very well this year, but maybe it’s time to give Patrick Dangerfield a rest your captain this week. Nobody likes  captain playing against the GWS at SPO and therefore this one has Danger signs written all over it.

Chasing a Brownlow though, Danger has been amazing with scores of 134 and 116 in his last two games but in his last five against the Giants his best score is just 110, with 108 and 75 coming in 2016.

Based on form, he’s the #4 man in the game based on average but this one is a little trickier.

THIS WILL GET NASTY

The Brisbane Lions… are a team who have given up 15 scores over 100 in the last three weeks. They allowed the Giants to have 6 players score over 112 last week with midfielders like Ward (122pts, 28 touches) and Shiel (118pts, 38 touches) doing as they pleased all afternoon.

Enter: Zach Merrett

Zach met the Lions in round 2 this year and on that day he backed up his 130 from 2016 with a huge 140. Zach’s form has been sensational with scores of 120 and 151 coming in his last two games and when you add to this, that this game is under the Etihad roof then you can see me getting pretty excited.

This year, he has played under the roof on three occasions with scores of 151, 126 and 108. This one is bound to get nasty and has a Zach Merrett 150 written all over it.

JUST QUICKLY…

Dusty Martin v Port Adelaide @ Adelaide Oval – 99 and 114 are his last two against the Power and this one is away, at Adelaide Oval where he scored 107 at earlier this year. Big risk here, but we all know what he’s capable of.

Dan Hannebery v Melbourne @ the MCG – 91 and 74 are his last two efforts against Melbourne.

Dayne Zorko v Essendon @ Etihad Stadium – 45 last week was about 100 under what I expected. Big call, but he should bounce back here against a team he has scored 108 and 102 against in his last runs. Loves plying under the roof where he has scored 157 and 117 there this year and should get another 100+ as he goes for his 7th straight ton at the ground.

Rory Sloane v Carlton @ the MCG – Surely another tag on the way this week from Curnow. Had 123 against them last year though, but I’m very nervous for him this week.

Gary Ablett v Kangaroos @ Metricon Stadium – Already scored a massive 162 on the Roos this year with scored 91, 119, 119, 119, 148 and 146 in games against them before that huge number. At home (if fit) he’ll be sensational and destined for something huge.

Josh P. Kennedy v Melbourne @ the MCG – averaging 111 in his last 3 games but only managed 88 on the Dees last year.

Bryce Gibbs v Adelaide @ the MCG – 104 last week, 90pts shy of his effort the week before.

Tom Rockliff v Essendon @ Etihad Stadium – averaging just 88 in the last three weeks, our pig is struggling. He loves playing the Bombers though and scored 123 against them in round 2, but before that he went 179, 125 and 147. They are pig numbers so hopefully back under the roof where he has scored 124 and 106 this year, he can kick into gear.
