AFL Teams 2017: Round 8

Round 8 Sunday extended bench selections are in!

5:00pm Friday 11/05/2017

Early news is Jesse Hogan is out for dees with Sam Weideman (Fwd $178,000) being an inclusion. Those excited that Ivan Soldo (Ruck $172,000) may actually get another game, your hope is dashed early with him being dropped before Sunday bench selections even took place with Sam Lloyd into the top 25 for selection.
Braydon Preuss was an inclusion into top 25, but only as an emergency.
Nic Newman, Declan Mountford, Dougal Howard, Aidyn Johnson didn’t make the cut.

Friday Updates

6:25pm Thursday 11/05/2017

Round 8 Teams are in. Ignoring earlier advice he would play, Adam Treloar (Mid $641,000) is out for the pies. Popular rookies priced players Aaron Black (Omitted), Harley Balic (Illness), Jay Kennedy-Harris (Omitted) are out, as well as Matthew Kennedy (Omitted) is you still had him. James Stewart (Fwd $227,000) is confirmed to debut for bombers, but his is very pricey for a rookie, and we see the return of Tom Stewart (Def $226,000) which will make owners happy.
Toby Nankervis (Ruck/Fwd $472,000) is back, but Ivan Soldo (Ruck $172,000) is named on the field, which could mean he gets another game. You will still need to check Sunday extended bench selections.
Talking about Sunday extended bench selections, there are few possible interesting inclusions, so make sure you check up 5pm on Friday.

5:30pm Thursday 11/05/2017

Teams to be released from ~6:15pm tonight. Early news already that Dan Houston (Fwd/Def $349,000) didn’t make the flight to Shanghai and won’t be playing, and there are doubts Robbie Gray (Fwd $502,000) after injury concerns during training.
David Swallow (Mid $419,000) is also earlier listed to miss the game in China.
Irish Recruit Mark O’Connor (Def $150,000) looks to debut for the cats this weekend, and Daniel Lloyd (Mid $150,000) to debut for GWS. Jobe Watson (Mid $505,000) and Andrew McGrath (Def $379,000) look likely to return for the bombers, but there are doubts on key cat Joel Selwood (Mid $642,000)
There is talk about Adam Treloar (Mid $641,000) being sore, but reports are he should still play.
Hugh Greenwood (Mid/Fwd $150,000) and Jack Fitzpatrick (Ruck $299,000) have been upgraded from rookie lists and are a chance to play. Many might have looked at Koby Stevens (Mid/Fwd $530,000) as a possible upgrade target, but he is suspended for 1 week.

Shags’ Watchlist

bont
The Bont, Marcus Bontempelli (Mid $596,000) has been on peoples radars for awhile now, and he has added something to his game he didn’t seem to have last year, consistency. He has scored below 100 only once this year with an 89 and that was round 1, and has a ceiling this year of 126. Hes the sort of player who has the potential to go bang.

Shags’ Watchlist

mcen
It seems we have a new Ruck upgrade on the cards this year with Ben McEvoy (Ruck $520,000) scoring 4 tonnes on the trot, with two being above 120! Those who jumped on early would be stoked as he has made a cool $126k. With lows of 60 he can score badly, but if this form continues we have another ruck to challenge the likes of Stef Martin, Grundy, and Jacobs on our fields.

stev
Jack Steven (Mid $588,000) started slow and then copped a nasty punctured lung injury at the start of the season. Well it seems he has recovered and has scored 133 and 113 in his last 2 hit outs, and many would argue hes well underpriced. You could jump on him as a fallen premium.

Just when people thought rookies were drying up, we get a whole heap of debuts this week, and Daniel Lloyd (Mid $150,000) is one of them. The Apprentice carpenter is a powerful mid sized forward who kicks bags of goals in the NEAFL.

Yet another debut, and another Irish recruit in Mark O’Connor (Def $150,000) which could save us some holes in defence. backed in by Tadhg Kennelly, barely 6 months into AFL and only 4 games in VFL they are backing him into the seniors. That screams pure talent to me, and we are talking solid lineup of the cats as well.

The Sauce big Sam Jacobs (Ruck $574,000) announced himself as a contender for top ruck status with a score of 158 a couple of weeks back. He is playing the dees this week who essentially have no ruck so he should run amok.

neale
Lachie Neale (mid $600,000) is another who is possibly in the status of fallen premium, who got off to a bit of a slow start but showed what he is capable of with a big 138 last week. Scoring 3 hefty tonnes out of his last 4 matches, the risk is always that 1 out of the 4 where he scored an 86.

hall
Aaron Hall (Mid $571,000) has had a checked start this year. He has literally tonned every 2nd week since the start of the year, and not tonned every other week. And just to give the range of the erratic scores, he got 54 two weeks ago, and 156 last week. He’s on my watchlist as he is definitely underpriced if he can continue scoring anywhere near that again and if he can somehow start doing it consistently.

hanners
This week is the week of fallen premiums for my watchlist, and you dont get much more fallen than the swans and Dan Hannebery (Mid $542,000) who has dropped a staggering $113k in value. He has tonned the last two week in a row so is this Hanners on the comeback? If you think yes jump on as he won’t be any cheaper.
