Nice squad, I feel the risky players are:
Beams, o meara, and Heeney imo
      Solid but mid priced team
      Good luck

DEFENCE: Quite a worry to me starting 3 rookies onground atm as history tells us, defencive rookies with solid js are the hardest to find. You’re relying on 3 rookies there to be available EVERY week from game 1! That’s scary and needs addressing imo. Seriously consider Thurlow for starters imo, virtually rookie priced, has solid js, will average you 75ish, fill a gap and be a great cashcow. Also keep an eye on Marchbank.
MIDS: They look fine, but my only issue is three of them are coming off lti’s and one hasn’t played in a year. Its a risk that could pay off bigtime or bite you on the arse bigtime.
RUCKS: fine, but both subs have no js and you don’t have a dpp ruck in the fwds to step in if your two premo’s miss a game or 3
FWDS: Forward line looks great, no issues there.
All just food for thought, do with it what you will :)

As a blues supporter, he “should” play a lot of games, but is no certainty whatsoever of even lining up round 1. Myers is safe as houses.

Thoughts on this guns and rookie team:
    $7K remaining
Obviously depends on rookies playing round 1, but its not relying on mid priced injuries coming back.
DEF:Adams, Doc, Laird, Hibberd, Hibberd, Ryan (Rice, Newman)
MID:Rocky, Treloar, Hanners, Titchell, Fyfe, Heppell, Barret, Freeman (Graham, Gore)
    RUCK:Gawn, Giles (Buzza, Pierce)
FWD:Macrae, Billings, Heeney, Elliot, Pickett, Daicos (Eddy, Weiderman)
Only leaves 8 spots to upgrade to complete the team, maybe 7 if Elliot can avg 80-85 and hold the F6 spot.
    Thoughts?

He is risky, but sometimes you have to risk it to get the biscuit.
Last year I had Lycett pencilled in my team, then change to Stef Martin to be safe and burnt me.

Interesting assessment that you only have 8, or 7, to upgrade. I would suggest that you have maybe 12 or 13 and thats with guys like Hibberd, Billings, Heeney and Elliot all delivering consistent good scores. Not to mention long term injuries. Loading the midfield so early has its draw backs as a lot of cash to be made in that part of the field, especially in Fantasy with immediate price rises from game 1. with very little cash available, a longer process to upgrade to uber premos that competion leaders will have.

Having said that, there is a lot to like in thew high end players you have selected.

      Good luck for 2017

I just mean having no rookies, if hibberd and Heeney can avg 85 that’s a nice d6 and f6. Billings 90 would be a decent f5. A team is never really complete as there are always mini upgrades anyway. Good point about the cash flow the mid is where it mainly comes from! Thanks for the feedback

Just another perspective. I think the best way to make cash in the MID is actually to trade those rookies in and out of your team from bench positions without effecting your on-field numbers. As you say there are plenty of trades to make this way and you don’t carry the risk of a real stinker or even a non-starter (no guarantee on any player I suppose) For what its worth, I like the go big strategy for my mids also. Best of luck to all.

DEF: Fine, only concern is relying on 2 rooks to play each week, no buts from day 1
MIDS: Love your mids, no probs there
RUCK: Yes Giles is very risky but ALWAYS back your gut :) Having no backup with js is concerning however
FWDS: Love the billings pick, but like your defence, you have 2 rookies with no js you’re just assuming will play full games from day dot, which is highly unlikely.
Team is ok but needs work. You’re leaving yourself open to either donuts or forced trades

        Definitely a fair call!
        Dropped Hanners to Scott Selwood
Added Thurlow and Hampton to DEF.
Cam Mccarthy into FWD so only 1 rookie on field.
        $35K still to play with

Roughy might not be ready for round 1, but if he is well under priced. The cash in the bank will be very handy to if a mid pricer doesnt work out

DEF: Thurlow as your D3 says it all. Too many rookies with no solid js
MIDS: I like your mids, some risks there on premo’s becoming keepers which I love to see! My only question mark is on Neale. Fyfe will take away a lot of his points now hes back and I think theres far better options as your M1 for that price. Ask yourself, do you have solid week to week captain options in that bunch?
      RUCKS: fine
FWDS: Love some of the uniques. Watch Roughy closely, his body has been to hell and back battling cancer, and will most likely struggle for strength and fitness. Starting 2 rooks on the ground, same thoughts as in your defence.
Nice unique side, but plenty of risks as you already know.

It looks like a nice squad, and I know it’s still early and you’ll pick up on this but watch the 5 coming back from injury and other reasons such as Murphy, O’Meara, Swallow, Fyfe, and Myers.
If I were you I’d look to find another proven player for now to slot in in case these guys don’t serve up over the Nab.
Your backline is solid, there is nothing to say about that.

I feel Gawn is slightly over priced, that being said I had him from the start last year. I like Grundy instead.
And for the FWDS, but as you know, Roughy will need time to get going, and Josh Thomas too.
Not sold on Bennel either but I see that it’s good to be with the norm

MIDS: 3 MP’s who’ll all make money, the only concerning one is Murphy imo. Awkwardly priced for a guy who won’t average the 105+ needed to make him a keeper, will make you not much cash, and eventually need trading out. Overall though mids look good
RUCK: Sound like a broken record here… but you have no cover with js, otherwise fine.
FWDS: Some risks there but that’s what its all about hey! Nice unique fwd line, but monitor Bennell and Roughy especially before settling on them.
      Nice job! :)

Yeah, I’m not sold on the kolo bit but love the dochers pick. Mids seem find, pretty solid tbh. Fyfe and O’Meara have ??? Around them.

Brundy and smartin are both awesome players, can’t go wrong.
3 rookies in the mids will hurt you unless they boom in price.
Your fwd line seems ok, I’m a swans supporter but I don’t think Heeney can score better regularly than last year. Miller and Hrovat are my good picks, so you get my support. And McCluggage I’m not sure If he can score enough to make solid cash.

      Good squad

The way I see it, Hibberd is a fairly save high-80’s average, and I think Thurlow can get to high-70’s, so it really depends on the premo mid you want to bring in. If it was someone like Danger/Rockliff/Titchell, who I think all have the potential to go 115+ then I would go for that. Murphy at best will probably get back to 102-103, so that’s 12-13 points less at least. In summary, I think you’d be at least 3-4 points better off going for a Premo Mid and Jackson Thurlow, depending on the premo.

So you are getting opinions on players I see,
Well with that much cash, you should upgrade a ruck, Boyd to be traded.
Your defence is similar to my first draft, I was a old that I lacked depth and I feel that you lack the same, so maybe a player around the 530k mark maybe berry gets upgraded,

Your midfield is what I have a big issue with, Barlow is a nice gamble, will go huge if he goes well, the other 4 all have ?? Marks, Heppell Is an exception because most people will have him.
The other 3 all returning from injury and we have no idea on how they’ll go. I think you need a proven captain player.

You have got a semi weak forward line, you are investing your cash in 4 first year players which may not work out, I suggest getting a guy like Ryan Clarke who is more experienced and can actually score, he is priced a little higher so I suggest you drop one of the F3-F6 players and upgrade them slightly, or grab a 350k-450k player to create more depth.
      There’s my analysis

Bennell is at best a midseason option for me, possibly as a switcher for a lack of downgrade options and a fattened rookie – being a cheapish option at M9/F7

My issue here is that you have 4 on field players with a round 9 bye. You’ll need to get rid of Ryder by then. Also, with Swallow, Ablett, Lyons and Barlow? going into the Suns midfield, I think it will be unlikely that Miller gets the sort of midfield time he did at the end of last season. Also, You only have 11 keepers as well and a fair few of these ‘keepers’ won’t realistically be in the top 6-10 scorers for their respective positions.

Poss one premo weak in defence given hiw strong the backline is this yr but thats just personal pref.
Like the mifmds but 2 mid pricers off injury is a bit risky but if it pays off youll be laughing so up to you.
Monitor Giles & the other Eagle rucks. Could be great pick if he gets to take fair chunk of rucking responsibility for at least until the bye.
Dont mind your fwds though it does seem we’ll have plenty of solid rookie options this year so possibly save some cash there to use elsewhere.

I love how someone else has the same support for dusty, perfect choice, and should get DPP by Rd6, we’ll have him early,
Backline is solid, I’ve opted out and taken hodge over Taylor Adams which might backfire but I like a bit of extra cash for other areas, dochers laird and Hartlett will back up your scores also, Murphy and Swallow give me many concerns because I’m unsure how they will play, after time off and injury.
Tom Boyd, I say straight up no To, but that’s your call.
And then with forwards, you can’t go wrong, but you are spending a lot of money down there, I might suggest spend s little more I the ruck and less down fwd.

It’s a nice squad, I think dangers price will drop early on so I’m not sold on starting him,
I feel like you are paying full price for those premium mids like treloar and Sloane. And I feel there is more value in lower price premiums,
I like the Heppell and beams picks, should pay off, having two cheap rookies or unproven rookies on your field atm may not be a good thing. You might want to find some extra cash to get a higher, priced rookie once they start to show potential.
And I feel like the Gawn and Stef combo might backfire since they share the same bye round
      Hope this helps

With limited trades throughout the season a majority of the premos you start with though need to be in the frame for top 6-8 come seasons end, sometimes you just gotta pay the price IMO. Going slightly cheaper but then having to upgrade at a later stage doesn’t make sense to me long run – Heppell & Beams should hopefully be up there, can’t go past the value.

Rooks may or may not change based on pre-season and early round selections, crucial to making cash for the season though, Brodie and Myers should be in the best 22, and I’d be surprised if one if not two of the other 3 get consistent games – all can change pretty quick with them though.

Not too concerned on same bye for rucks, score on best 18 anyway so positions dont matter as much, defs worth keeping in mind though…

I know that about Neale, but he is my big difference between other squads, the Fwds I feel lack good options this year, so I have picked Dunkley and Caddy to give me a few decent scorers based on past performance,
          But cheers for the review

I would appreciate some feedback on this team. I know it’s a bit different, but I feel like you have to be a bit different to do well in this caper.

    Team Name: The Harlequins (RDT)

    Cash Left: $4,500

    Def: K. Simpson, S.Docherty, B.Vince, J.Thurlow, A.McGrath C.Hampton (J.Berry, L.Ryan)

    Mid: P.Dangerfield, J.Kennedy, S.Pendlebury, T.Mitchell, A.Gaff, D.Heppell, W.Brodie, D.Myers (J.Barrett, J.Graham, N.Freeman)

    Ruc: S.Martin, A.Sandilands (E.Ratugolea)

    Fwd: J.Macrae, J.Gunston, T.Miller, I.Heeney, H.McCluggage, J.Bowes (C.Brown, B.Eddy)

I’m fairly happy with this team. The only thing I’m worried about is that my midfield might be a bit too strong. I’d prefer to squeeze a few more rookies in there, but there just isn’t room. I don’t care about bye structure, since there are too many variables. By the time the byes roll around there have been injuries and role changes and players dropped and all kinds of shit and my bye structure will be shot anyway, so I don’t bother with it to start with.

    I’d love your thoughts.

Hey Joke_R, hope you had a great Holliday, but now down to business,
This is RDT so I’m not necessarily in my element, but I’ll tell you what I think,

Simo, Vince and dochers all went well last year, Vince was a bit poor towards the end but should go ok, I’d monitor his scoring capacity when we see Melksham, Hibberd and Lewis enter the team,
Thermos and McGrath seem to be the norm so you should be good there and Hampton needs to prove that he can cement his spot in the team but also score.

Mid: Danger is a no brainer, same with JPK and Pendles ( because you don’t have Adams in your backs).
Titch seems to be a standard pick too, so you can’t go wrong. Gaff is your POD, and should go well since he won’t cop a tag this year, (you know why) Brodie and Myers are good cheap players who should both play, Brodie has one ?, monitor over the Nab.

Rucks, you are fine here since your rucks share different bye rounds, Martin has a great first 6 rounds, he is solid, and sandy should have the no. 1 ruck role,

Fwds have a strong top 3, Heeney maybe makes a good 4, I’m not sold on him though. McCluggage and Bowes seem to look good and might score well, you need to monitor them too, I think McCluggage might not be worth as much as Bowes, but that’s just me, either way, they’ll get game time,

One last point, I noticed that you don’t have 1 GWS player in your squad, I feel since they look like The potential Premiers straight off the back, I feel like without one, you may be slightly disadvantaged since they play a very high possession game and they will kick goals, therefore more Chance to score 100+.

      There’s my opinion,

      Hope it helps

Thanks for the feedback Drowning Fish. It’s an interesting point you bring up about GWS players, I didn’t even notice. I’ll think about putting some in, but at the same time I don’t really want to put in a player just so I have ‘an even spread’. If there is a GWS player who I think will be better than a current player that I have, then I’ll swap them.

M9, I’m not sure if you’re trolling or just replied to the wrong post, this is only the second time I have posted my team, and the first time was four days ago. Hardly excessive.

Solid looking backline, 4 premiums and they look good for the prices they are, Ryan on the field isn’t a great look but may turn up ok over the Nab.

Having Danger and Rockliff is overkill, IMO you can’t have 2 700k+ players in your starting team. I’d drop one, but then Pendles and Titch is your backup, they look great, Heppell should be part of the Norm and Murphy is coming back from injury, so we are all uncertain on his output,
2 base price rooks on the field is another thing I don’t like,

Rucks are not bad, nankervis is a little diminishing on your whole team, I rate Sandilands or Ryder better who are more pricy but you have the spare cash,

Not bad Fwds, Pickett and Balic on the field isn’t a good sign since there is so many better options this year, and get Josh Daicos in your squad,

For some reason this team just looks really weak to me. It’s like I don’t understand how you only have $16K remaining. Perhaps it’s that star-studded midfield that is taking up so much of your money. I’m not sold on starting Danger or Rockliff, so starting both might be a bit of overkill. My advice would be to downgrade one of them to a rookie. I’m not a huge fan of your rookies, but I would consider that a minor issue at the moment. The good rookies always make themselves known. Your backline looks fine. I would maybe downgrade Rockliff to a McGrath or McCluggage or maybe Brodie or Bowes. I like your rucks, but if you have some spare cash left, you might want to upgrade one of them to one of the big three (Goldy, Grundy, Gawny).

It’s not a bad start, but I think your midfield is too strong, and it’s dragging the rest of your team down.

Defence is very strong. I would consider Narlow after his bye unless you have a strong bench player.
Watch the Nankervis role. I think he will start in Vickery’s role and then move to R1 once Hampson gets injured or dropped. (so won’t make money at the start of the year)
Fwd line is fine as there is quite a bit of value this year.

Will definitely have to see what Barlow’s role is going to be, same as Nankervis. I’m tossing up between Nankervis/T. Boyd/will watch their pre-seasons very carefully.

Not saying this is a terrible strategy as they are all jets however there is value across all lines in my opinion this year as a result of injury/form slump/role change.

Very solid team. For me the main issue is that it just seems kind of boring. Don’t get me wrong, all those players are guns, but they will probably have huge ownership percentages and you know exactly what you’re going to get. I would love to see a couple of uniques in there. There are so many mid price options, I’m sure there are a couple that will do alright. Remember, if you just pick all the proven players, you might find safety, but not glory. Go risky, go unique. Especially at this stage of the season. We’re still three months out from the season, go nuts.

      Otherwise, it’s a decent team.

Watch the preseason regarding Giles, should take #1 role, but see what they do with Vardy. Fwd line: The question is can Billings go to another level after averaging 79.8 from 16 games last year?? (Only had 3 100’s and a 99) Macrae and Heeney are guns and Elliott should make money.

Anyone keen on Matt Crouch? I can’t see why he can’t improve to about 105 this season. Priced nicely too. Some might say awkwardly, but if he can take the next step he’s cheap

Of the opinion this team will score well early but will be difficult to upgrade. Thoughts are you will Be forever trying to find bandaid solutions for failed mid price options due to poor scoring/ prone to injury etc. See redden being massive value now the injury issues appear to be behind him and Selwood has potential to increase 30 points on what he is priced at.

Mid priced Hell, good luck pal

Backline works for me, I like the strategy mate but you’ve always told me that you need to have some keepers, and I feel you have a maximum of 3-4 keepers. But knowing you, this will be one possible team out of 10 that you’ve made already

I agree. Mid priced hell. If all those players get back to their best, you’ll be sitting pretty, but it’s highly unlikely they won’t. I like some of your picks. SSelwood, Beams and Murphy could turn out okay, Touk is a popular breakout candidate and at that price, Sandilands is almost a lock. I’m personally not a fan of JOM. I think Bennell is still struggling with injury issues at the moment. He went to see some surgeon in Europe I think. Overall, the team is pretty good for this stage of the season. If you were starting with that in Round 1 I would say you’d have some problems, but with over two months to go until the season starts, this is the kind of thing we should all be trying.

Gday AAFWPODNDF! Rather nice team, a few POD’s which I for one like. Defence for me seems a touch weak, and I’d much prefer an Adams/Laird over Hibberd but that is completely up to you. Personally I have Hibberd at D4. Love the Hodge pick. Not so sure about Martin in the MIDs but the rest is fine. If Bont manages to continue his end of 2016 form he’d be a cracker. No Rockliff? Risky. Can’t argue with the ruck, fantastic. Greene is a unique POD. Scores well without MID time at times but generally inconsistent so monitor. Caddy is nice, I know the Tigers fans only hear good things. Dunkley as a POD I love, capable of averaging 90. Hrovat not so sure about, monitor. Rookies are good.

      Good Luck in 2017!

Hey lads. I know it’s late, but I was playing around with the team picker and I came up with this. It’s a bit of an unusual structure, but I figured it kind of works. I decided that this season there were a load of really good cheap forwards, so why not take advantage of that. This is basically a Guns ‘n’ Rooks strategy, but it’s a bit of an unusual structure. I’d love any thoughts.

IMO he will need to get his body developed for a couple of years as will need some size to compete against the stronger ruckman. (No 3rd man up this year)
Well structured side, just very interested to see how Mills scores and what his role is in the pre season.

Fantasy? Cash left? Proj site score?
      DEF – good mix
MID – agree with your own comments possibly ‘Maybe a little to heavy in mid priced / returning injury’s’
RUCK – Witts is iffy not sure on his role as yet, Nichols number one and still have Currie dont they? he may play like a second ruck at best like a Vickery so expect around 65-70 so will make cash – maybe downgrade one of your medium price pre injured players to rookie and upgrade ruck her slightly – i dont know hunter or pierce assume they just resting on bench but if you know something please let me know.
FWDS – i like it good mix

I would have to be convinced Witts is the number 1 ruck there before picking him. Hunter and Pierce are just bench spot holders, not much info on them.
A good thing about having Redden, Selwoood and Caddy is the round 12 bye.
