FootyTips.com.au Fantasy Bye Strategy

The bye rounds are here and while each club will have a game off over the next three weeks, Fantasy coaches around Australia need to keep soldiering on. In ESPN FootyTips.com.au Fantasy Footy, we are given 5 free trades in these rounds to help balance our teams.

espnfootyThis year we are playing the ESPN Footytips.com.au Fantasy game.  It’s not too late to sign up as if you can pick a side that has the highest weekly score for the year, you can win an iPad. Plus it’s a fun game to play week to week alongside your tipping over on footytips.com.au.The bye rounds are here and while each club will have a game off over the next three weeks, Fantasy coaches around Australia need to keep soldiering on.

With players from six teams not being available for each of these weeks, we’ll all be eating quite a few zeroes. But never fear, in ESPN FootyTips.com.au Fantasy Footy we have 3 extra free trades to use in the next three rounds. That is, a total of 5 free trades for each week.

With our squads of 22 (18 on the ground, 4 on the bench), hopefully these bonus trades can help you get through these tough weeks.

My team has 7 players from this week’s bye. But they are spread nicely across the four positions. I only have to trade 3 of them to get the 18 players I need for this week. My other rounds don’t look great, so I will use all of my trades to help manage my team for the following weeks.

Some strategy comes in here with using your trades. At this early stage, it sounds like Joe Daniher could be making his debut for Essendon. So he would be someone to bring into your forward line for $1. Normal upgrading and downgrading would be good here – especially if there are other guys making their debut – but don’t be scared to dump a premium guy on his bye.

Sideways trades are often taboo. Here, if you play your cards right, you might be able to make some money out of your trade getting in a guy who have easy opponents over the next couple of weeks. Collingwood players would be great to bring in for the next fortnight as they have Melbourne and then Western Bulldogs before their Round 13 bye.

If your team is in complete disarray and even with your 5 trades, you may still cop a donut, don’t forget you can use additional trades for the cost of 50 points. If the guy you’re trading out usually scores more than that and you can get someone in who should do the same, or better, then it’s not a bad thing to spend those ‘points’ there.

Good luck this week!
