Dream Team Extra: Round 13

Who’s hit the headlines this week? What’s the fallout from the weekend? Let’s take a look at a few newsworthy snips, and maybe a bit of juicy goss, that may have an effect on your Dream Team this weekend!

How are you faring at around the halfway point of Dream Team 2012? As opposed to my squad, I hope your team is firing and you’re either almost complete or sitting pretty with plenty of trades up your sleeve for a big assault on the DT Finals. After a dreary fortnight we’re at our final multi-bye round for season 2012. It’s been a bit of a struggle, but after this weekend we return to the relative sanity of 9-match weekends. Minimum games don’t equate to minimum news, so let’s get into some of the goings-on this week!

Pendle-Broken

So much for just a two-week layoff, but hey, we’re getting used to being mucked about by injury news and reports by now so this snip regarding Pendlebury’s extended recovery probably didn’t come as a surprise to most. While not in full training yet, the twatter is that he has been running this week, so hopefully no further LTI worries here. It’s unfortunate as those of us who were relying on him to return this week might wear an extra donut. However, unless you’re in the top 100 or so of the rankings, swapping Pendles out this week would be a wasted trade.

Goody Goody!

Great news was that Mr Super-Durable (downgraded from Mr Ultra-Durable) is likely to resume this week for the Swans after his longest stint on the sidelines. Goodes has been in full training this week and, according to that report, is going gangbusters in readiness for this round. It’s a double-bonus really as we’ll get to see him work his magic again while providing us with a great upgrade option. His late-season form is legendary in the DT world, so keep an eye on him for one or two games before pulling the trigger and then ride the Goodes train home!

Are You My Mummy?

He’s been a regular feature of the #DTExtra and big Mummy gets another mention this week. We bemoaned his start-of-season troubles when he battled back issues and now it’s time for the flipside. How about this mid-week tweet from the Swannies?

Mummy’s come out with some fighting words in the lead in to the Swans/Cats game this weekend and I’ll  be eager to see how the big fella goes. A 39 anbd a 68 since returning from injury aren’t much to shout about, but as he keeps building match fitness and form, his price might dip to as low as $350-360k after R14, making him ripe for the picking for the run home. If you’re strapped for cash and looking for a sneaky upgrade for Giles, keep an eye on Mummy.

Injury Update

Who’s on the radar for a game this weekend? Heath Shaw is the most notable name, though I think he’s been mentioned as a possible return for a few weeks now! Hampson is listed as a test, which is an added worry for Kreuzer coaches on top of his mixed form. There a a boatload more ‘outs’ than ‘ins’, so that’s about it for a positive injury update.

Pick Me! Pick Me!

Another tough round looms and, to be completely honest, if you’re actually having trouble deciding between which rooks to play this bye round, you’re in a 0.5-percentile of coaches who actually have depth this week! All I can say at this point is that with the addition of Bartram and Green to Melbourne’s injury list, surely Tommy Couch is due?!?

Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Trading? Heard any juicy news bits, gossip or rumours? Got a rant or a rave? Stick it in the comments and let’s get some healthy chatter going. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!

Anyone travelling interstate to catch a game this weekend should visit Quickbeds for cheap last minute deals on hotels!
