Assessing the Damage: Round 3

We had a bit of carnage over the weekend with plenty of FMDT moments. The big talk has been about Nat Fyfe and his shoulder. Will he play, will be be out for an extended period of time… and what should we do. But we can’t forget about Matthew Leuenberger’s 6 week injury as well as the findings of the Match Review Panel.

Injuries

The injury that has dominated discussion from the weekend is the shoulder of Nathan Fyfe. There is no word on how long he will be out but the Fremantle Football Club today released a statement that said “the 20-year-old and the club are optimistic about his chances of playing against St Kilda on Friday night”. The good news is that being a Friday night game, we’ll know if he is playing or not before lockout. Work out what you might do with him if he’s out. If he doesn’t play, I’ll probably be looking at him after seeing what’s happened in the past with shoulder injuries.

Brisbane ruckman Matthew Leuenberger will miss at least 6 weeks after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in the same game. This needs to be a trade. While dropping over $50K in value, you need to go to a premium ruckman and you still have that opportunity still being priced at over $400K. Billy Longer will have more of a pivitol role at the Lions now, but personally, I wouldn’t be chasing him as it’s not worth the trade from Stephenson, Giles or Redden.

Keep any eye on the media this week for news on any other injuries.

Suspensions

The Match Review Panel (MRP) have offered some popular Dream Team picks a week on the sidelines from incidents on the weekend. Adam Goodes may challenge his week for rough conduct… which was a stupid slide into his opponent – which he has done before. Brian Lake was pretty lucky to get away with one week, in my opinion. I think his 5 year good record has saved him a bit here. Finally, one of my boys (who is likely to be delisted from the Warne Dawgs this week), Jack Grimes can accept a week for his sling tackle.
