Get Off The Bench: Rd 6 Early Edition

What the hell are the league trying to do to us! It is getting like we don’t have any time between rounds these days. So that means that this week we need to have an early look at who we should be putting on the ground and who should be picking the pine splinters out of their a*** for the next week.

What the hell are the league trying to do to us! It is getting like we don’t have any time between rounds these days. So that means that this week we need to have an early look at who we should be putting on the ground and who should be picking the pine splinters out of their a*** for the next week.

As with last week I will have a quick look at the Dee’s and the Eag’s so you can set your team for Thursday night footy and then I will be back on Friday morning with my usual wrap of the players by position that you should be considering.

Melbourne

There are a few guys at Demonland that a few of us might be placing our faith in, but the one that most of us have is Luke Tapscott.  He started out with a pair of 80’s and his last two have been 57 and 65 so he has dropped off a bit.  This could be due to him playing back closer to the defensive goal rather than running up and attacking off the half back line.  But with numbers like his and the vast expanse of Patterson’s Stadium I think there should be room for him to run and rack up the points.  If you took the punt on Jordan Gysberts be prepared to dump him shortly, he has had two nice scores of 103 and 67 which means he is due to be dropped and never heard of again if 2010 form is anything to go on.  But if you are keeping him I think he is more than safe to play.  He seems to be slotting in quite nicely.  I think he will get dumped when Scully comes back, but that is a while off at the moment.  Stefan Martin is a guy that has snuck up on us, he has put together a tidy average for a guy with a start price of $145k.  He is averaging 74 and is getting a consistent game and missing out on the vests so he looks ok to play if you need him to.

The last of the guys from Melb that I want to have a look at is Austin Wonaeamirri, he came in priced at 203,700 and is due to go up this week, he has a 69 and an 88 and can be the X factor in any game he plays.  If you have him, I would give him the start.

West Coast

Firstly they don’t get a multi-coloured name because Yellow on white background looks shit.  Secondly, there is some gold to be found out west in their cheaper players and none better than their new lead up target Jack Darling.  He will certainly be welcomed back onto the ground for me.  He had 3 scores in the 60’s and then broke out for a 100 in his last outing.  They do target him up forward and as a result I would have no hesitation in selecting him on the park this week.  Another from the rookie class is Andrew Gaff, he has the indignity of being the sub for the first 3 rounds, but still scored well and then in the last game where he was left on for the whole game getting 68pts.  I like this kid and if you need someone for the mids and need someone other than Curnow, Libba, Harris or Swallow to suit up I would play him, otherwise he is a handy emergency.

Mark Nicoski is a cheapy player at $200k and has a nice little score run going with a 63 and 58 in the last couple of rounds.  He gets forward and slots some goals and given I think they can win this game fairly well I would be playing this guy.

Those not to consider from West Coast are Eric MacKenzie and Will Schofield as both have some average scoring and have been the victims of the Red Vest over the past two weeks.  Will will avoid the Red Vest as he has managed to avoid the team altogether by being dropped!

So that is a bit of a look at what I think of the fringe DT relevant players at these clubs for this game, please check the teams before the Partial Lockout so you don’t get caught out and check back here at DT Talk on Friday morning for my analysis on the other 12 teams playing this weekend.  If you have any questions you want answered as to who to play, tweet me at @pkd73
