Liam Anthony: Deck of Dream Team 2011

Liam Anthony could have been the Michael Barlow of 2009. He was pretty much in everyone’s starting line ups but didn’t play Round 1, after being named, because of stress fractures. When he finally made his debut in Round 13, he knocked out 94 and proceeded to average 95 in his debut year.

Name: Liam Anthony
Club: North Melbourne
Position: Midfield
Bye Rounds: 3 & 21
2010 Average: 95.1
2010 Games Played: 7
Predicted Average: 105

Why should I pick him? Liam Anthony is not only a great bloke, more importantly he is a jet DTer.  Last year he didn’t let down his gutsy fans who paid top dollar for him after an outstanding debut year in 09 where he averaged 96 though 10 games. Liam was well on track to average 100 by the end of the year, only to be cut down with a shoulder injury in round 7. Through the first 7 games he showed that 09 was no flash in the pan with  best scores of 112, 115 and 132. So my reasons to pick him will make him hard to resist: 1- he will be discounted due to missing a large portion of the year. 2- he is in an improving team that are “the fittest they have ever been” -Boomer Harvey. 3- he is built for DT and is in his 3rd year at this level. 4- tag still goes to Harvey

Why shouldn’t I pick him? Liam’s first 2 years at AFL level have been interrupted through injury which leaves obvious concerns about durability. Both injuries have cost him half the season which rings alarm bells. When he plays at his best, teams have been prepared to tag both him and Brent Harvey, which dismisses the chances of him flying completely under the radar.

Deck of DT Rating. KING. Anthony will not come as cheap as some players who have 100 point average potential, however it is like buying a Sony over a Samsung. You know from experience that it will not let you down quality wise. I actually have a feeling he will move into Ace status this year where he will be captain “ACE” potential.

The most successful DTer out of the boys prides himself on his multiple top 200 finishes... nearly as much as he prides himself on his guns! The coach of destROY wants you to follow him on Twitter: @RoyDT.
