Haha… yeah, I know! The season finished two days ago and we’re already thinking about this! This isn’t a post about “pick up Daniel Rich, he will be a DT gun”. It’s about the things that could make AFL Dream Team better in 2009. (more…)

The Under 18 Championships are underway again and some of our future cash cows are out there doing their best to be picked up by an AFL club so that they can find a place in our Dream Teams for next year. It has been interesting to read the articles on the AFL Website - with it’s page dedicated to the U18 Championships. Apart from the scores, goalkickers and best… there has been some ‘expert opinion’ on some of the stand out players. Look out for the names of blokes who win the ball and take marks (kicking goals is a bonus too - especially when many rookies start as forwards). Champion Data’s Fantasy Freako is at every game taking the stats and working out DT scores. In this week’s newsletter, Vic Country’s Nick Suban cops a massive mention - 109 points in 4 x 20 min quarters. He’ll be in my team next year!
If you aren’t signed up to the Fantasy Freako email, then you should be! The Freak is doing some scouting for us at the moment - giving us DT points for some of these young blokes kicking around. Click here to sign up now.
Which rookies will be the jets and the ‘must haves’ in next years DT? The NAB Under 18s Championships are underway (well done to Tassie who have been promoted!) and the next crop of Dream Team Cash Cows are playing their hearts out to possibly be selected in our 2009 Dream Teams. This article from the AFL website has some words of wisdom from Geelong recruiting assisant, Luke Williams. As a ‘future planner’ for DT, maybe keep track of some of the ‘ball winners’ and guys who are likely to ’stat-it-up’ to help with selecting next years DT. One guy to keep an eye on is Tasmania’s Mitch Robinson, who racked up 16 touches in kicked 2 goals - earning him the Hunter-Harrison Medal.
I already want Ranga Ediriwickrama (from NSW/ACT) just for his name alone - but he can play too! I wonder if he was named after Cameron Ling?
