News from the twos

VFL

Carlton Blues

Matthew Lobbe (RUC, $338K) was very good with 40 hitouts and 8 tackles for 110 points. His score would’ve been helped with Phillips replacing Kreuzer in the AFL, and he played pretty well so I doubt we will see much of Lobbe. Harry McKay (FWD, $339K) was solid with 14 touches, 7 marks and a goal for 80 points. Pat Kerr (FWD, $235K) was decent as well with 2 goals and 74 points but we probably won’t see him again unless there is an injury. Cameron O’Shea (DEF, $338K) was poor with only 16 touches and 4 marks for 58 points. I doubt he’ll get another game.

Western Bulldogs (Footscray)

Jordan Roughead (RUC, $418K) was very good up against Lobbe, and had 14 touches, 6 marks, 7 tackles and a goal for 123 points. I doubt he’ll play after a solid win for the Dogs, and Boyd seems to be coping by himself. Mitch Honeychurch (FWD, $453K) didn’t set the world on fire but was solid with 16 touches and 5 tackles for 64 points. He could come in for Lin Jong of Billy Gowers if he doesn’t get up after hurting his ankle. Lewis Young (DEF, $328K) could also be considered for Jong, who originally replaced Suckling. He had 15 touches and 9 marks for 58 points

Geelong Cats

Jackson Thurlow (DEF/MID, $412K) had 29 touches and 105 points. He’s averaging 93 in the VFL, and could be used later in the year. Sam Simpson (FWD, $236K) was good as well with 22 touches and 8 tackles. I think we’ll have to wait a couple more weeks at least before we see him. Ryan Abbott (RUC, $170K) was solid with 81 points and kicked a goal, and we are still waiting for him to get a game. Scott Selwood (MID, $559K) hasn’t done too much in the VFL, and only had 16 touches and 7 tackles for 70 points.

Richmond Tigers

Shai Bolton (FWD, $230K) was solid with 22 touches and a goal, for 96 points, and the highest scorer for the Tigers.  Corey Ellis (DEF/MID, $366K) will likely come in for Conca, and had 26 touches and 84 points. I wouldn’t touch him at that price and especially after his poor start to the year. Ryan Garthwaite (DEF, $182K) was pretty poor with 13 touches and 56 points. He may even come in for Conca, to manage Adelaide’s big forward line.

Hawthorn (Box Hill)

James Cousins (MID, $327K) was solid with 26 touches, 6 tackles and a goal for 115 points. Let’s hope he stays out so we have no concern for a tag. Mark Pittonet (RUC, $196K) was good as well with 39 hitouts and 12 touches. I doubt he’ll get a game. James Worpel (MID, $212K) was quite good with 20 touches, 2 goals and 6 tackles for 92 points. I don’t think he’ll get another game unless an injury pops up. David Mirra (DEF, $351K) was decent with 17 touches and 8 marks.

St Kilda (Sandringham)

Tom Hickey (RUC, $502K) was huge and had 34 disposals, 6 marks, 7 tackles and 59 hitouts for 177 points. Rowan Marshall (FWD, $349K) was good as well, with 23 touches, 9 marks and 8 tackles for 136 points. Ed Phillips (MID, $376K) was decent with 20 touches and a goal for 85 points. Nathan Freeman (MID, $170K) continues to work his way back into footy with 20 touches and 5 tackles, but let’s hope he doesn’t play so we can have him as a bargain for next year. Logan Austin (DEF, $391K) will likely come in for Nathan Brown, who hurt his hamstring. He had 17 touches and 4 marks for 52 points. Nick Coffield (DEF/MID, $363K) was poor with only 10 touches and 49 points.

Melbourne Demons

Oskar Baker (FWD, $176K) had his best game of the season with 34 touches and 9 marks, for 126 points. I find it hard to see him getting a game, with Tim Smith (FWD, $353K) probably ahead of him, who had 20 touches and a goal for 88 points. Bernie Vince (DEF, $396K) responding well after being dropped, scoring 107 points from 25 touches. Tomas Bugg (FWD, $457K) was decent with17 touches, 5 tackles and 75 points, and if he wants another game, he should get off twitter and head to training!

Essendon Bombers

Dylan Clarke (FWD/MID, $181K) was solid with 23 touches, 6 marks and 7 tackles for 105 points. He could get another game but I doubt he will this week because the Bombers are coming off a couple of good wins. Kobe Mutch (MID, $265K) was good as well with 24 touches and 6 tackles for 102 points, and I’d say he’s ahead of Clarke to get another game. Jordan Ridley (DEF, $256K) didn’t do too much, only managing 8 touches and 5 marks for 47 points. I can’t see him getting another one.

North Melbourne

Brayden Preuss (RUC, $445K) had a good game with 18 touches, 6 marks and 60 hitouts for 130 points. Goldstein is going quite well at the moment so I don’t think he will play unless he gets injured. Cameron Zurhaar (FWD, $271K) continues to develop in the VFL as well as knocking on the door of the AFL side, and he had 25 touches and 0.2 for 88 points. Mitch Hibberd (DEF, $235K) was decent with 25 touches for 85 points. Hopefully, he doesn’t play so we can have him nice and cheap next season.

Collingwood Magpies

Adam Oxley (DEF, $344K) scored 108 from 25 touches and 8 marks and was one of the last players picked in the rookie draft. Hopefully, he gets a game because he deserves it after the run of injuries he’s had. Sam Murray (DEF, $495K) was quite solid with 25 touches, 22 of which were kicks, 5 marks and a goal for 103 points. With Lynden Dunn out for the year, Murray could come in for him. 22% of coaches who still own him will be happy about that! Callum Brown (FWD/MID, $385K) was good as well with 31 touches and 2 goals.

NEAFL

Sydney Swans

Nic Newman (MID, $521K) was good as per usual with 30 touches, 10 marks and a goal for 136 points. He puts his hand up to replace Heeney. Darcy Cameron (RUC, $170K) was good as well, with 17 touches, 5 marks, 5 tackles and 46 hitouts for 120 points. Jordan Dawson (FWD/MID, $254K) kicked 3 goals and had 23 touches for 99 points. Harrison Marsh (DEF, $340K) was solid with 23 touches and a goal for 101 points, and will also fight for a spot in the ones with Heeney out.

Brisbane Lions

Ben Keays (FWD, $437K) followed up his 140 from last week with a 114 from 28 touches, 7 tackles, and a goal. He is knocking on the door but I find it hard for the Lions to make any changes after a win in Perth. Brandon Starcevich (FWD/MID, $236K) has been emergency a couple of times and is getting closer to a debut. He only had 11 touches, 7 tackles and a goal on the weekend.

Gold Coast Suns

Kade Kolodjashnij (DEF, $562K) was very good with 31 touches, 14 marks and a goal for 135 points. He could come in soon, after suffering multiple concussions. Charlie Ballard hasn’t been in the best of form lately, and AFL.com.au believe he will make way for Kolodjashnij. Will Brodie (MID, $374K) was solid with 1 goal, 29 touches, and 108 points. Jacob Heron (DEF, $191K) has played a couple of games in the AFL and had 20 touches and 7 marks for 70 points in the NEAFL.

GWS Giants

Nick Shipley (MID, $170K) was good with 114 points, from 26 touches and 3 goals. With Kelly and Coniglio both playing now, I can’t see him getting another game. Adam Kennedy (DEF/MID, $358K) was good as well with 26 touches and 11 marks for 110 points. Isaac Cumming (DEF, $191K) was solid as well with 14 touches and 12 tackles, for 95 points. Lachlan Keeffe (DEF/FWD, $253K) keeps getting it done and had 17 touches for 80 points.

WAFL

Fremantle Dockers (Peel Thunder)

Taylin Duman (DEF, $259K) had a great game with 31 touches, 9 marks and a goal for 132 points. Danyle Pearce (FWD, $478K) was also good with 35 touches and 8 marks for 118 points. He could come in for Nat Fyfe and Mundy would move into the middle. Sean Darcy (RUC, $554K) will come in for Sandilands for 4 weeks, and will score well, but when Sandi comes back, his scoring will drop or even he could get dropped. He scored 106 points from 12 touches, 31 hitouts and kicked 3 goals. Brad Hill (MID, $631K) made his return in the WAFL after a knee injury and had 25 touches and 7 marks for 101 points. Harley Bennell (FWD, $249K) was good as well in 3 quarters and had 21 touches and a goal.

West Coast Eagles (East Perth)

Nathan Vardy (RUC, $464K) is yet to play an AFL game this season and I can’t see that changing, with Lycett and Naitanui in great form. He had 12 touches, 2 goals, 6 marks, 7 tackles and 57 hitouts for 146 points. Dom Sheed (MID, $499K) is knocking on the door after being dropped and had 34 touches and 7 marks for 124 points. Francis Watson (DEF, $170K) was solid with 19 touches and 7 marks, managing 71 points.

SANFL

Adelaide Crows

Rory Atkins (MID, $450K) was the top scorer with 105 points, 28 touches, and 1 goal. Patrick Wilson (FWD/MID, $181K) was solid with 32 touches and 3 tackles for 104 points. I don’t think he’ll come back in with all the injured players returning. Lachlan Murphy (FWD/DEF, $295K) scored 66 from 10 touches and a goal.

Port Adelaide

Jake Neade (FWD, $348K) was the top scorer for the Power, with 27 touches and 102 points. William Frampton (RUC/FWD, $170K) was solid with 26 hitouts and a goal and continues to develop in the SANFL. Dom Barry (MID, $299K) was poor with 11 touches and 50 points. Darcy Byrne-Jones (DEF, $543K) didn’t do much either, with only 14 touches and 47 points.

I don’t think there will be any rookies this week, but the news going round is that Oskar Baker is coming in for Melbourne. He’s averaging 73 in the VFL, so I only recommend him for the bench.
