Fantasy Regrets – Ep. 198

Regrets. It is at this stage of the season that they start sinking in. AFL Fantasy coaches rue almost every decision they make. There are some that will spit the dummy five minutes into their first game after trading someone in because they haven’t already had 10 disposals and kicked a goal.

Now that we are more than a third of the way through the season, we can take a step back and can see what has worked and what hasn’t.

Warnie had a decision to make at the start of the season. Jack Billings or Isaac Heeney. It was a 50/50 call. Billings finished last season in cracking form but missed some of the pre-season due to a hamstring injury. The Saint played a cracking game in the final JLT Community Series match and that was enough to go with him over the consistent Heeney.

If the coach of the Warne Dawgs went the other way, he’s currently be sitting inside the top 500 coaches overall in Fantasy Classic.

Don’t get him started on other calls, but there are plenty of sob stories out there. Calvin has had a ridiculous amount of bad luck. Some of his so-called premiums have failed to fire while Roy can’t get his rookies right, whether it is the right downgrade or who to play on his field.

A common trend for coaches adding their two cents to the list of regrets include trading an underperforming premium to only see them regain form. Dayne Zorko deserved to be moved on, but has scored 176 and 115 in the last two weeks. Choosing to bring back Zach Merrett after missing his big scores when the opportunity was there to bring in Jack Macrae. Having Jesse Hogan as a point of difference all pre-season only to dump him just before lockout.

Everyone has a story and The Traders share a few on this week’s episode of the Official AFL Fantasy Podcast. Roy, Calvin and Warnie discuss their Fantasy Classic and Draft regrets but keep the glass half-full as they look towards a big round nine before the bye round tactics need to be employed.

  • Top score for the round yet sits 21 thousand, yep some up the season, more luck then ever.

  • This was a pretty weak summation- told us nothing we didn’t already know.

    • Right, we’ll take that feedback on board.

Out of interest, why did you change your name from hf to boris for this comment? Sorry that our podcast wasn’t up to your “Martin has been a bit Dusty lately” comment yesterday. That was pure comedic gold.

    • What happened to never coming back again boris?

And giw’s your team going? Still got Alex Pearce pumping out the 50’s for you?

      • What about you, Jungle? How’s your slide into obscurity going? You wanker.

        • Pretty clear after your little chat with warnie, who the wanker is mate

        • Yeah, I’m struggling big time mate, slid all the way down to rank 300~ after two horror weeks and won’t have my team fully upgraded until round 12. Imagine where I’d be if I listened to you.

Being a wanker is almost as good as being awesome at DT!

How about you, what’s it like living on the mountain? Any chance they’ve got a back shed up there?

          Good luck in 2019

  • His team doesnt look that bad apart from no titch or laird. Must have made some bad starting choices

    • One important piece of info we never have with a screen shot of someone else’s team is how much they’ve got in their kitty.
At this (relatively) early point in the Fantasy season it’s all very well to have lots of good players but we also need $$ to enable us to keep building and to manage injuries etc. Don’t let the kitty run dry to chase points week-to-week!

    • I’d say he upgraded Titch to Macrae which sound ridiculous, but potentially if he did it 3-4 rounds ago when he was 920k he would have made about 135k doing the trade plus be about 150 points better of (plus potential captain benefits)
And can probably pick Titch back up for about 750k in a week or two, when we’re paying 900+ for Macrae….

      • I’ve been saying it for years… buy low, sell high. Sounds counter intuitive and it is, but pays off for those with the balls and luck to pull it off.

        • That’s pretty much what I do. I abhor jumping on full priece premiums, you’re chasing scores after the horse has bolted. Instead, keep an eye on top tier premiuns that have a quiet week or two, pick them up once they’ve bottomed out. It’s not rocket surgery.

  • Lol i swear Warnie stole my mayday joke ;(

  • how is that team ranked 21k? better than my team yet i’m 10,000 places higher. weird, he has done very well to come back from his bad start

  • Bring in danger this week or wait?

  • Dilemma.
Billings has to go so I’m definitely going him to Ronke.
Don’t have much cash so my options are
    1). Dusty to Macrae
    2). Banfield to Phillips
    3). Brayshaw to Zorko

Really want Macrae as im in the top 2k and most othrr people will be getting him but should I trade dusty to get him

  • Peanuts Peanuts Peanuts
Who can remember the fat foreign guy who used to sell the peanuts back in the day??
Peanuts shells all over the floor!!
Funny stuff again – love it when we all go s#@t and can have a good laugh

Warning Will Robinson – Macrae will be tagged by Douglas this week
He tagged JPK to 66 Crows won’t allow off the leash

Best of luck for the rest of the year

  • Always makes me feel better after a though week, good laugh cheers guys.

  • One of the best podcasts ive heard from you boys. I was laughing all the way to work on the train!
