Why should I pick him

The first reason to pick Rocky is because he is absurdly under priced. 2017 got off to an absolute flyer where the pig was doing what the pig does, dominating the competition and leading the way among Fantasy players. In the first eight weeks he didn’t drop under triple figures and pumped out massive scores of 130, 157 and 167 in that time. No one in his price bracket can do that.

He suffered a serious shoulder injury in round eight and postponed surgery until the end of the season which meant the back end of his season didn’t resemble the real Rocky. Between round 12 and 23 he only reached 100 on one occasion which means we have an opportunity to pick him up for a bargain price.

Rocky is re energised an entering a team projected to score well from a Fantasy perspective. He is expected to play the same amount of midfield time as he has historically done with the Lions and his time forward will be far more enjoyable this year with more frequently delivery and a well established support crew around him.

He is capable of averaging 135 for a season… literally no one else does that and he can be purchased for an average of 103.

His start to the season speaks for itself and I couldn’t put it better than our good mate the Wiz wrote in his Fast starting Premiums article.

Tom Rockliff: Don’t think about it, JUST PICK HIM. When he isn’t injured, Rocky is a no brainer. Currently priced at an average of 103, he is potentially 30 under what he can produce. Obviously, I’m not going to be naïve and say that there aren’t doubts over the Pig, with a new team there comes uncertainties about role and team cohesion, as well as the never ending questions about Rocky’s body – but his first 2 games come up against teams that he loves to play. Rd 1: His last 4 scores against FREM (95, 142, 154, 172) & RD 2: His last 4 scores against SYD (167, 132, 128, 141). Hop on and enjoy the ride.”

Why shouldn’t I pick him?

In Rocky’s nine seasons he has only played 22 games on one occasion, and his 20 games last year was the first time he reached that mark in four season.

He is going to a new club… That could mean anything from a role perspective and some believe he is there to play predominately forward after his well known success as a forward in his junior years.

You may be holding a grudge from last year if you traded him back in.

Pfft, there is no reason not to get him, he is going to smash it this year.

Deck of DT Rating.

Ace – Rocky is a ball magnet that tackles and kicks goals, he is playing for a top four contender and has been voted into the leadership group. His shoulder rehab and gone to plan and he is ready to hit the ground running in round one and I can’t recommend highly enough that you back in the Pig. There are going to be some huge wins at Adelaide Oval this year and Rocky is going to have his snout well and truly entrenched in it.

  • Absolute gun no doubt, just worry if there’ll be enough big points to go around with Port having a plethora of good players moving through the midfield, at Lions it was just him mostly with occasionally Beams. Also the forward time could prevent a few points

Have him around 110-112. I also have Matt Crouch around 112 this year and feel he’s more durable but without Rocky’s ceiling

  • I can’t believe you boys did a card on Rocky. He is a LOCK No reading necessary :)

  • Predicted Average: 117

Roy made a typo it should actually say 127!

    Good Luck™

  • Genuinely concerned about role, and bitter about last year. But you know, Rocky.

  • None of these articles even consider bye round, it’s a terrible oversight.

Let’s say Rockliff manages to average 115. He still misses a game in r10. Nobody who owns him is going to trade him out and back in again (and if they do they will be giving away 2 trades to the field) so he will be benched in r10.

This is the part of the year where carnage hits- rookies getting dropped and slowing down, injuries kicking in etc. Very strong chance you end up with an awful lot of other fires to put out and have a really weak sub or a donut to cover Rockliff.

If he averages 115 and you have him covered by a rookie who scores 50 that week then over the first ten weeks of the season Rockliff (or rather, that place in your team) has actually just averaged 108. Still good but plenty of others can do that with much less injury/role risk. Looking at you Matt Crouch.

If he averages 115 and then you cop a donut in r10 it means Rockliff is now averaging 103. Not really good enough I don’t think, even if he’s priced at that.

So really you need him to go at 120 and not get injured to be a really strong pick. Meanwhile, those who go without are able to sit back, monitor his role and pick him up in r11 as a standard upgrade.

TLDR: picking premiums with r10 bye is RETARDED.

    • Tommy the Pig missing 1 week is out weighted by him covering for 3 weeks during the other bye rounds so picking him is not RETARDED!

You could of course wait until after the round 10 bye to pick him up but then you will miss out on any massive scores he has!

      Good Luck™

      • Ohhh and pay an extra 100k for him!

        Good Luck™

      • I can still get him in r11 (IF I want him, doubt I will) and have him for all 3 bye rounds and still swerve all the headaches we get every year from him.

He’s had one huge season and otherwise just been a complete nightmare. Most overhyped player in fantasy by a mile. The FOMO of people who are terrified of missing out on the odd 170 is oh so real amongst the sheep.

    • Not to mention when he inevitably misses games and you have to field a rookie which brings his average down again. Matt Crouch will go 110-115, and be there for 22 games. No he doesn’t have Rocky’s ceiling but he’ll give you 110 every week

Every is just like “oh it’s Rocky, huge scores” but there’s a few bad points with him as well. By no means the lock every is making out

      • People said the same thing about Taylor Adams last season: “I’m not picking him never plays a full season” I wonder how many choked on their humble pie!

New team fresh start less pressure and most importantly his should is better and he will lay those 40 points a game in tackles. He will be Ports highest averaging Fantasy player.

        Good Luck™

        • Shoulder still giving him grief in the intra club according to the guys on BigFooty. Red flag

        • The Chosen Won let’s be very clear. Rocky scored 468 points last year from tackles and played 20 games. That’s an average of 5.88 tackles per game. So your stats are 16 points overstated. In 2016 Rocky scored 468 from tackles and played 17 games. that’s an average of 6.88 tackles per game. Rocky is overrated and overstated. especially from Roy. The year Rocky averaged 130 odd fantasy points he made the young kids kick 30 metre passes to him. he was basically the only senior player as beams wasn’t playing. he doesn’t get that at Port. Port will be playing fast direct football and there are other good players and far better deliverers of the football than Rocky. I read an article today whereby watts maybe used in the mid-field due to his disposal accuracy. I hope for your sake and especially Roy’s that Rocky does perform for you but he is a huge risk. Yes he may go up in price and it is less rick in Fantasy but for RDT I think he is a no go.

          • Yes, Rocky is a great for AFL fantasy but the truth is that he is a crap player and uses the ball poorly. Most AFL teams wouldn’t want him and I don’t understand why Port would waste their time with him

    • Bye structure is up to the individual to work out. It says when his bye is, need any more spoon feeding? I will have Rocky and Wigg from the early bye. Easy.

  • As said on FiveAA ollie wines stated that he would be predominately a fwd this year because of other rotations going through the midfield, because of that and the large range of players port have to rotate throught the middle i dont think he will be the best choice to get in your team unless he gains fwd status in the future which would be awesome considering his price for now

    • No he didn’t mate.
The pig himself said I’ll be prodomiently playing in the middle with a fwd role. We got him as a mid and he will play mid. The likes of Boaky, Ebo, Amon etc will play high half forward / back. Good luck getting him in after he feasts on weak opposition at Adelaide oval.

In the words of Chosen Won.
      Good luck

  • Is the bye round not even more reason to have him?

    • erm no. Why would it be? r10 bye players are perfect for upgrading to in r11/12 but having them from the start is bringing problems upon yourself at a crucial time of year.

Having said that, Barlow and Rockliff are the only guys who are likely to be relevant from these two teams anyway and both are perennial injury-prone headaches.
